Ello everyone..

So I've designed a business card & website for Shift-1, but one thing I'm terrible at designing is logos!

Basically, I'm looking for someone who IS good at it, and is up for a project :) Here's a bit about us..

Shift-1's a Brisbane based dance crew (Popping/Locking/Robot) as seen on Australia's Got Talent 2008. It's 4 guys who each wear a different coloured suit (yellow, green, blue, pink)... Hopefully that's enough to get some logo ideas (youtube Shift-1 for more)

As for logo design, I'd give some ideas, but I know how frustrating it can be as a designer to have other people dictate how to do your thing! So, if anybody's good at logo design, send me a pm with what you would charge and any samples of what you've done.. May as well utilize local QGL talent first rather than go commercial :)

What about something like the NBA logo

but with Australian colors/southern cross or your colours mentioned above and the silhouette as a break-dancer or something that is distinctive to your style.

Keep in mind... you need to keep the logo simple so that you can print it on a variety of media.

3d logos aren't going to be too good on a business card.

The only problem is going to be getting anyone to pronounce it who doesn't know the band name or when it has to be written somewhere, you'll inevitably have them end up writing or trying to say '!!!!'.

just write shiftF1 next to the logo and you won't have that issue.

imo you need to let help people work out the cleverness of your name.

The name is very clever, and the best part about it is that people can figure the meaning of the name with a bit of prompting. joe consumer gets great joy from figuring stuff out themselves so if you can take them 99% of the way and let them connect the circle they will enjoy and remember you.

fraks idea is great, but its first thought (obvious) stuff. think smarter. i would but i've had a bunch of beers.

maybe the words "shift 1" should be written in buttons as they are on your keyboard, if you want to help prompt people with the reference

put shift-1 inside the dots of the exclamation points?

'sh' in first, 'if' second, 't-' third and 1 in last?

ravn0s, thought of that too but didn't like having 2 letters in each.

Would work great with more !s or less letters so you can have 1 per dot.

Good image, but it made me think of both Johnnie Walker and Formula-1 at the same time. Now that would make the race interesting if the drivers had to skull a glass in the pitt-stops.

Do not recommend the gradients, because of what mongie said. At least you'd have to have gradient and non-gradient versions.

I like the personality maxe's fonts give to it, what font is it?

this looks kinda dumb cos you're mixing your image styles

youve got hires contrasty colour photography
+ hires b&w soft tone photography taken on a completely different class of camera
+ some goofy stencils
+ your text

shit looks busy as hell

pick one style and run with it, keep it as simple as you can. Image + letters.

Yeah readability isn't 100%... though I tested it on my girlfriend and she could read it at a glance. It's almost like if you focus on it, all you see is the exclamation mark... or 'shaft'? Aw man, now you're making me want to work on it...

thanks for the concepts guy, farseeker has an idea there that has potential so far!
