It’s been 25 years since we’ve updated the Microsoft logo and now is the perfect time for a change. This is an incredibly exciting year for Microsoft as we prepare to release new versions of nearly all of our products.

err hasn't the logo changed with every 'other' windows edition?
and/or has it been 25 years since they changed the sign/logo on the front of the building in Redmond?

why does this warrant a video + a news item ?

o0o0 a company has changed their logo to something extremely similar to every other one they have had.

It's the first time they've changed the typeface of the corporate logo by the looks of things. They also have never had a symbol for Microsoft before. I think you're thinking of the Windows logo. This is the Windows 8 symbol/logo.

Checkout Microsoft.com and you'll see they are now using the new logo.

i'm a pretty big fan of the metro look. I'm almost convinced my next phone will be a windows phone because of it.

Wow, for a 25 year old logo, the old one didn't age too badly really.

It's nice to see a more modern logo, I'm not a huge fan of the symbol as it's a bit too simple and nondifferentiable from a basic shape (I like the simple but unique concept of the slanted look of the Windows 8 symbol), but I do like that they actually have a symbol now and not just a wordmark.

Yes I'm sure the small number of people who move away from iOS/Android might feel the same, but more people are concerned with Microsoft trying to push a phone-centric paradigm onto their desktop where it 100% does not belong, fullstop.

Way to annoy the hell out of small-business / enterprise customers who don't want an OS that acts like a social networking and media platform.

I dunno, the whole thing looks like some kind of childrens book. Possibly some weird s*** by Dr Seuss.

I can tell you right now, there won't be any metro foxes in any of my boxes.

I'm actually looking forward to putting it on my computer as well *shrug* my desktop has only the recycle bin, i only use the programs pinned to my start bar and if i want to use something different, i just press windows key and type the program...even at work.

That said, I haven't used it so I can't really complain but i like a lot of the features.

Twas but a light hearted comment.

It's really jarring hitting the start key and bouncing to a fullscreen start menu, once you get used to it I find it great though. And when you double click say a photo and it opens up the Metro photo viewer is painful, but changing the defaults from Metro apps to normal desktop apps cures that.

Yeah the writer actually admits in the replies that he didn't know that microsoft actually 'invented' and therefore by extension own the license to it. It's similar to the one that apple used, but they invented theirs to circumvent paying licensing fees on the font and called it Myriad set (Avoiding both license fees to microsoft for not being Segoe and to adobe who own Myriad).

The font segoe has been around inside MS OS's for what like a decade and a half or more?

Both are actually based on Frutiger.
