just use keepvid.com or a similar online site, it produces the video file for you to download

I use jDownloader - but the download site and so on has adware traps everywhere. If you can navigate the minefield, it's a great little app for all kinds of downloading.

Tube Digger (not free) will also allow you to *cough ahem* do a little bit more than just YouTube (e.g. RMTPE).
