Tech question.

Heya,

Currently have quite a shitty motherboard and it only come equipped with 2x Serial ATA inputs. I need a third so I can run an extra hdd. Wondering if it was possible to get an adapter that plugged into the ATA slot which also had 2 input cables on it. Virtually turning one slot into 2.

Cheers.

Nope, but you can get a PCI Sata Port Card (or at least used it, google it for places). Performance will be slower than native Sata but will keep you going.

Buy 2x2TB drives, Replace your current two drives.

Alternatively a sata controller card is only about 45 dollars. I guess with that kind of mobo you're not exactly sporting the highest end of video cards and so on so your pci controller probably won't be flooded..

Not at current prices. Have you seen the price of 2TB drives this week?

But yeah, a cheap SATA controller card might cost you $25. A good one, a little bit more.
If you're still stuck in the stone ages of using PCI though, I feel for you man. Do modern boards even have PCI slots anymore? Saw that new MSI X79 board has seven x16 PCI-e slots! (Though I think maybe only 2 are x16, so it's 2 x16s and 5 x8s).

Fine i'll concede that, jesus. I checked prices when thailand was first hit.. i guess they've been underwater for a long time now, and it doesn't look like they'll be back to catching up demand for a while.

Crazy

I'm running a gtx 580 SC on the board now.

I might just get a single 2tb hdd and replace the 750gb (lol) one I have now.

My porn folder is increasing so fast these days, it's crazy.

In somewhat related news;

Hybrid SSD/HDD.. the SSD more acts as kind of a cache..
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/revodrive-hybrid-ssd-hard-drive,3044.html

this product takes the ultra-fast flash-based product and the slow magnetic storage and marries them on one PCI Express-based add-in card. On top of that, it applies caching software, which has to learn the applications and files you use most often. After three or four accesses, however, hot data finds its way onto the fast storage, where it's served up at the speed of a RevoDrive.

Market Price
Price Per GB
 OCZ RevoDrive 3 X2 240 GB
$580
$2.42
OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid 1 TB
$500
$0.50
OCZ RevoDrive 3 120 GB + 1 TB Hard Drive
$480
$0.43
OCZ Vertex 3 240 GB
$460
$1.91

There is a bit of math to do before making a commitment here, though. It'd still be cheaper to buy a 1 TB hard drive and 120 GB RevoDrive 3 separately. However, the RevoDrive Hybrid allows you to potentially enjoy a performance boost to all of your data without any physical management, with a big caveat.

Lol. I just found it amusing.
