I am really becoming annoyed with the crap load of passwords / usernames one has to remember... does anyone use non-browser software?

My setup;
Win 7 pcs
iphone4
ipad2

I want the software to go across all these platforms and to be able to sync, and auto fill websites/apps etc, when access is required. (ie dont wont to have to open the app and copy paste etc...)

I havent looked in depth into this yet, as I thought a few peeps here would be in the same boat... I've briefly scanned KeePass & SplashID, but looking for current users of this tech to comment on their experiences and product choices.

sidenote:
when is everything going to use gmail to verify, very few websites use such a simple and awesomely effective method!!?

More seem to be using facebook from what I can tell.

And nah, I used to type everything religiously, but then got lazy, and just use Firefox with a master password. You could just use common passwords for non-important things?

1Password might do all of that. I've been contemplating getting it so I'm not 100% as to its capabilities.

I've recently had this problem, for now I'm using KeePass, using DropBox to sync the data files. 1Password was the other option that was recommended to me.

1Password always gets great wraps. I use lastpass which works on everything and free so not sure what 1Password would offer me that I'm not getting now.

Yeah, good luck remembering every login for every site and keeping them unique. You're always bound to forget one or two.

Why not? I find it easy personally, and if I do (oh noes) forget one then I reset it.

I'm with tiny, KeePass is the way to go. KeyPassX for is the equivalent for Mac.

I have my KeyPass db file synced up on dropbox so it updates across all my pcs and mobile at the same time. Only need to remember one password :D

Yes, KeePass is really free, and more than that: it is open source (OSI certified). You can have a look at its full source and check whether the encryption algorithms are implemented correctly.

Roboform. Auto logs on to anything including applications and does all the synching you need. It's not free, but definitely worth it. Being a sysadmin at work it saves a ton of time

I did actually buy it and it has paid for itself, the only time it sucks is when its program based login or if it is web based then the captcha that throws off the ability to auto login. Otherwise the password generator is pretty rad and can be sync'ed through dropbox on IOS devices, mac or pc.

Just send me a list of:

Website/Program -Username-Password

For me, I just use the [ X ] Sign in automatically function.
I also have a notebook with websites and associated passwords etc. in a secret place.

thanks ya'll

these are fairly similar that I could see (functionality wise)

RoboForm
- sync via RF web
- cant edit/save via mobile apps
- USB drive (could use for work puter)

1password
- sync via dropbox

prolly go with the latter as the GUI is much prettier and hence will be more inclined to use it long term.

You can hack last pass all you want.
If you forget your password your fucked because last pass don't have it.
So go nuts hack it, you'll end up with a bunch of data that you'll need a few centuries to decode.

And it wasn't a confirmed hack just a bunch of security nerds at lastpass worried they might have been hacked.

more links

If you were unlucky and they got your blob and if you have a super stupid master password like say password, yeah sure ... hacked.
Otherwise lawl.

I use KeePass inside a TrueCrypt volume. I also have putty ( with shared keys to a bunch of my boxes ), Firefox ( with proxy/dns all tunnelling over SSH to my home PC ) and a bunch of other useful apps inside the TC vol.

That way apart from the computer I'm actually using ( my own ) The only thing that can be tracked about me is the hostname/ip of my home box regardless of where i am.
