cant wait till a half decent bank does it
CBA are a joke, they're like the Telstra of the banking world
around for so long that old people who dont know any better stay with them oblivious to the fact that they are paying RIDICULOUS amounts of money for the service they're getting when compared to just about any other bank
About time, it's not like this technology is new, banks have just been stupid slow making it available.
One obvious problem though: Watch how many strange looks (and "you idiot" comments) you get from store clerks when you put your phone up to a paypass/paywave reader. I still get and see people getting strange looks when they use it with their normal everyday credit cards, even though I want it everywhere.

CBA are good for everyday banking.
I'm personally with ING Direct Orange Everyday with a VISA debit card but I also have a CBA Streamline account attached to a VISA credit card. The fees on the Streamline account are $60 a year - hardly worth sooking about for the service they offer.
I probably wouldn't get a home loan with them though from the rates I saw when we bought our home a couple of years back.

a quick look at cannex (household finance rating agency) suggests that this isn't correct at all.
CBA has a 5-star rated product in nearly every product category i looked at.
I'm basing it off my own experiences, what CBA charge (or used to charge?) back in the day for regular every day banking was crazy expensive compared to just about any other major or even tier 2 bank (st george etc)
we moved all of our accounts away from them because their fees were at that point the highest of any bank in Australia

Heh, I recently closed the Streamline account I had with CBA for > 20 years because I switched to NAB who offered the same thing for $0.
Seriously, if CBA's every day accounts are rated 5 star, I don't know what the fuck for. I can do everything with NAB that I could do with CBA for $60 less a year. *shrug* I'm with teq on this one.

the products are rated on a bell curve - see their methodology on their website for more info. so the top x% get given 5-stars (and the same bottom x% get 1-star, etc), this doesn't mean that all 5-star products are exactly the same value.
also, NAB's products might suit your needs better than CBA but they don't offer superior products in every category. a very quick example (from cannex's analysis): you can't get a variable rate home loan from NAB with a lower interest rate and lower monthly fees than CBA's comparable product.
sure, in some product categories NAB will offer better value than CBA, in others CBA will offer better value. i was just pointing out that teq's claim that CBA products were 'ridiculously expensive' compared to other banks was bullshit.

Reliant on over-the-counter services because of a disability preventing you using electronic banking facilities. The exemption will apply to a nominated account.
I didn't have to pay account fees back when I was a student, but I have ever since and I don't fit any of those categories now so I don't see how that's relevant to the point I was making. They want to charge me $60 for something their competitors will offer for free, even though I was a loyal customer with them for 20 years.

oh, just that if you tick the right boxes CBA is has zero monthly fees too.
CBA might have a comparable product that my new bank offers, but overall the service I got from CBA cost me more than the current service I'm getting now
CBA were GREAT when I was a student, but they made no attempt to keep me as a customer after I started working and thus started putting actual money in my accounts
but yes you're correct. whenever i have to go into a bank (always to withdraw massive phat stax) i refuse to fill out one of those withdrawl slips, wtf is that for anyway? also, why question me on what i'm going to do with my own money? stfu fat teller lady.
they don't have 5-star products in fixed home loans apart from 5-year fixed terms - but neither do any of the mainstream banks apart from ANZ.
their products are comparable in cost to nearly every other mainstream bank.
anyway, back on topic: DO WANT
I will tell you I have a family member who used to work for Cannex and has told me that they have witnessed the boss getting the results for the 5 star rating was a credit union in northern qld and they decided 'oh can't have that, lets just change the number crunch so it shows up as CBA'.
Apparently who ever pays the most normally comes out on top. So yeah...as trusted 3rd party rating system they suck balls.
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of attending a Google keynote at the Online Retailer conference in Sydney.
Some really awesome things are going to be possible via NFC. Here's Google Wallet for example -
This uses Mastercard PayPass - same thing as the new CBA (which is fkn awesome btw).
The obvious barrier to adoption is security. I think the next generation of smart phones might integrate a fingerprint reader as your home button. This way only you can unlock your phone and then you can use your normal four digit pin.
Third party applications like Mint could then take a feed of your transactions and tell you how much you are spending on coffee, or clothes, movies etc to help you better manage your money and even make recommendations based on people with similar spending habits to you. Also I imagine I'll be able to tag something as a work-related or business expense so I don't have to go through a shoe box of receipts at tax time.
say the teller makes a mistake gives you your $1000, but only enters $1 into the system, (and easy mistake as if you look at a tellers keyboard they have buttons that bulk fill the 0's)
at the end of the day, when that teller doesn't balance, you can find where the error was

considering that there are 5-star rated products offered by credit unions in every single category i linked to i find this extremely difficult to believe. i also know someone who has worked at cannex (no longer does) and i've never heard anything like what you're claiming. also, their methodology in rating the products is explicitly stated - if what you were claiming was true then there would be irregularities between the methodology and the results.
pretty sure cannex rates the products independently - you don't have to pay them to have the products reviewed. you do have to pay them to use their rating (i.e. their IP) in your advertising material afaik.

Couldn't be more wrong teq.
CBA is also for young adults who got signed up to Dollarmite and have never left because of the awesome service they've received. Like me. I'm never going to leave CBA because they've never charged me a fee they haven't refunded, Netbank is the best there is and my bank account is awesome, eg 2008 2007 (not real numbers, but demonstrates my point).
pretty sure as of a few years ago, netbank was the only internet banking system yet to be hacked
(it could have been an internal sales pitch, but pretty sure it is still up there)
also worth remember CBA made most of their money by giving people home loans, and not chancing the high value business loans like other banks, (NAB)
remember a few years ago when NAB (and others) kicked up a stink because people weren't free to change lender (yet they charged more is early payouts) it was because the GFC fucked up most of the banks who played in business and sub prime investment OS, while CBA went with the lesser value more stable shit,
(I think people have forgotten that pre GFC westpac and NAB both had higher share values, and had massive investments and better returns)
Fuck me, thats some pretty cool stuff. I still pay with cash most of the time as it gives me an idea about how much cash ive used if i give myself $100 for weekly stuff like petrol, food etc.
Im amazed how many people come by work and dont want to use the paypass system n act as if im trying to swipe and steal their money at the counter but their shitty signature keeps them safe. Fuckwits.
Can anyone tell me if the Optus i9100 (Samsung Galaxy S2) has NFC? It's optional on that phone, but if it has the NFC chip, then it's obviously pretty cool.
been alot of noise about this stuff latley. theres a few player with different methods, so might end up being another blu-ray war.
Is there? I thought there was only one standard: Use of the NFC (near field communication) chip which then talks to the receiver, and using an app for auth, magic happens.
What other forms are there? I even thought that that's how the touch and go stuff worked?

Nooo, I have no bank card for a few days due to moving and the old one expiring and manually ordering a new one which cancels the old one and whatnot, and was all "ah-HAH I'll just use KaChing" - alas it's not available yet.
I hope people that use thier card for everything get on board with this.
Recently the work Canteen started doing Eftpos and the line takes heaps longer because of it, use to be cash only which is so much faster.
Yeah, motorbike. Just under $25 for a full tank that i fill up about once every 5 days. Plus, i dont spend much money on other stuff like food etc cause take my own to work/uni.

Nah, I have a S2 as well, so I looked into it recently, but it doesn't look like it has a NFC chip on board. Shame really.
