I guess i'll advise you to get a i5 2500k, 8gb ddr3 ram, gigabyte mobo probably the p67a-ud3R-b3 and a gtx 560.
Reuse your current psu and case most likely just okay assuming they're above the 550watt power mark.

Sounds like you've got some subtle word play yourself ;).
Seriously, i5 2500k is a perfect gamers CPU, the mother board matches it, a gtx 560 or similar works well with it, and if you got a couple of the 560's you'd get in sli pretty excellent performance.
There are asus equivilants of the gigabyte board, check its price and find the p67 version in asus of similar price range.
Here's some brands:
Motherboards:
Gigabyte, asus, asrock
Videocards:
Evga, XFX,
RAM:
Not as important as long as its any of the above (with the iX's from a while ago, you no longer overclock ram with your FSB so you don't need supergood ram to match your OC). Kingston, OCZ, G.Skill, Giel, Corsair, uhh.. others. get the 12800 or whatever i think is 1600mhz.....

Usually AMD give better bang for your buck, but the moment the i5 2500K craps over similar priced AMD CPU's.
The Fan on it is apparently loud, so you may want to look into an after market cooler, about $50 for reasonable one.
You'll probably need to pay about $600 for a good bang for your buck PC that will last a little while.
$200ish for CPU.
$50ish for 4gig ram (more if you can)
$2-300ish for Vid card.
Reuse PSU,Case and HDD to save money. Or spend about $50-100 on a HDD.
Also, remember that not all HDD are created equal. For the same or less $'s spent you can find HDD's that are superior to similar priced ones.

I had no idea DDR3 ram was so cheap O_o, in my day you paid $110 for 2gb of 667MHz DDR2. :P

For the love of god get a decent psu the sheer volume of fuckers building up mid range gaming rigs and totally negligenting the psu is pretty high. Why is my new rig unstable? Why do I have graphic corruption? Why does my new rig not post blah blah blah fucking blah

Or, if your system is fine with the previous PSU use that.

MY PSU is only 500W so that's gonna need to be replaced, HDD's fine that's 1TB 7200rpm. So by the looks of it this will be a little more of an expensive endeavour then first predicted.
Thanks guys I know now what to be looking at. Now to start saving.

Well I really just meant the last time I bought ram... but the only other time was in 2003 sooo it probably still wasn't that bad.

That motherboard you put in isn't good if later down the track you want to sli two 560 ti's.
In fact you can't run SLi on that board at all. Even if you could one slot is 16x and the other is 4x so it would run badly.
Of course, you probably wouldn't do that with that powersupply anyway.
So really up to you, if you dont expect to upgrade your PC at any stage you're good with that, but if you do want to upgrade later get the Z68X-UD3R-B3 instead, it's similar to that mobo but with 2 pci-e slots which can run in SLi, (although one of them runs in 8x, the sli bridge will make up for the rest of the data transfer).
Anyway, looks pretty standard everywhere else for running modern games you shouldn't have any trouble.

$500 hmmmm
At that price a gradual thing I think.
PSU - Cool master 700 watt $ 87
then buy GPU
GPU 6950 - $ 210
Motherboard
AsRock Z68-Professional Extreme4 Gen3 - $180
CPU 2500k - $220
RAM
Corsair Vengence 1600mhz 8gb (2 x 4gb) - $80

Yeah after talking to some people on some forums, i'm going with the Asrock Extreme4, much better mobo. The Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 also has my eye though..
