We just pre-released 3d Mark 2011 - doesn't officially go live for another hour but we've got the green light to launch now. If you want to check it out, boom (~300mb).
Yeah, thats not too bad a system. Its unreal how quick you can fall behind in spec.
It's mostly just peen these days though right? It's not like a decade ago where you had to completely overhaul every 2 years or you couldn't run the latest games any more.
Someone with a top of the line box from 5 years ago (GF 8800) could still run Fallout New Vegas and The Witcher without too much issue.
It's a product of the longer console life-cycle. The Xbox 360 has already now been around longer than the original Xbox's retail life, and there's very few games that are made without the consoles as the lowest common denominator. So the only games that are actually taxing on modern PCs at their max quality config always able to have some settings dialled back to a point where they'll run just fine on an older box.
A couple of the mates here have gone with SLI'd OC'c Gigabyte 460's and getting ever so slightly better scores than my stock i7 960 (3.2ghz) with a single ATI 5970
I got just over 24k in Vantage and they broke 25k.
Impressive performance for the price
I grabbed the 1.01 update but it's crashing on the second test scene (High Temple) int the demo & benchmarks.
Deep Sea runs without a hitch on a HD 6850, Intel E8400.
Doh!
Wonder if they'll make a 3d mark for phones since they are apparently gaming consoles now.
http://www.futuremark.com/download/ apparently has 'spmark' for phones but when you click on the java version it says page not found, the symbian version link seems to work though.
