Im thinking of starting up my own Blog and i was wondering if any people here do it and how does your Blog get attention ?

Does it get grouped with similar styles of Blogging ?
Is there a 9/11 blogs, Climate Change, Politics, Issues on Freedom.

Do you link to other blogs and they link to you ?

Blogs are shit, nobody is interesting enough. Even celebrities I like that have video blogs or something, I gave up fairly quick. You might enjoy the work they do, but people are usually a bit boring.
My girlfriend likes reading blogs about like single dads on blogher.com and shit... who gives a fuck aye...
I have a blog thing where I post bits of code, or document software, that I write. I don't think anybody has ever read it.

Are you serious?

there are blogs about pretty much everything, I dont even need to look them up, but I'm sure there are several hundred/thousand blogs on those topics.

I would subscribe to your blog on those topics etc. Please make sure you can get updates without a web browser for the android phone... like RSS or someshit.

Yes, and there are even other people out there who believe the same stuff you do, as hard as that is to comprehend.

I use my blog to post code and scripts for my twitter followers. Usually something on exploits or malware reverse engineering. I sometimes post or verify posts for our work blog.

What software ?

What i meant by 9/11 etc was how do you group a blog or how do you classify your blog ?

Do you do one of those spams where you post a whole stack of topics at the top of the blog or do you manually tag yourself to topics you are likely to discuss ?

How do you attract traffic ?

Heh It's awesome fun figuring out someones attack, especially if it's an unknown 0day against IE or firefox or Adobe products. Breaking someones anti-debug or anti-reversing methods in a malware binary is a good challenge.

WordPress if you want to manage it yourself, use blogger.com if you don't

a blog is just a website. you can join the circle jerk that is 'blogrolls' and become part of a 'group' that way (webrings for the 21 century!)
How do you attract traffic ?
by putting things on your blog that people want to see or read (or, stealing other people's content and posting it as your own and letting Google do it all for you).

What Trog said. Wordpress if you want to manage it yourself, Blogger if you are lazy. The advantage of blogger is it's google. Which means you dont have to fuck around with making another account.

I use both. Wordpress for my store for when I do competitions, etc. Blogger for personal use. Eg, photos of painting, games, etc.

You should realize that nobody gives a fuck about your thoughts and ideas.

i have a blog that i post shit that happens to me online (or more like things i get involved in) eg, i pissed off a chick who has cystic fibrosis and then recieved a ton of death threats.

the only people who read it are people i know personally who enjoy my stories.

i get new readers by spamming facebook.

the blog exists purely as my own personal outlet of creativity.

For all the people asking "why would you blog?", that's probably the best answer you'll get, I reckon! It's just cool to have a place to put up photos, write stuff, etc. Facebook has obviated the need to do this for a lot of people (...at least until Diaspora comes along and pwns it I hope!) so I can see a lot of people not getting why you'd do it.

So... people who would sit through your written diarrhoea just to make fun of you? Fair enough.

On a serious note, I'd recommend Joomla. It's an awesome, easy to use CMS that can handle blog posts, comments, user registration, forums etc through a nifty plugin system.

I blog about what it's like doing research at UQ, and it's great fun, but it's also a bit of work if you want to keep a readership coming back regularly. Writing even a few hundred words once a week can become a chore pretty quickly. A handy tip is to get a few like-minded people to post on your blog, and schedule people so that each person only ever has to write about once a month. I think multiple bloggers per blog also means your readers get a bit of variety in both writing style and content, which I reckon is a good thing too.

I have a blog. Kinda related to music, drumming and just general life passions, really. Also, I generally don't have the literary capacity to blog in the sense of writing big witty articles whinging about things and stuff.
