Jesus-Crowdfunded-Christ.

In 9 days, we managed to raise over 1 million dollars to go towards buying back Tesla's old laboratory, and with the $850,000 matching grant from NY state this puts us at 1.85 million bucks. At its peak, the campaign was raising $27,000 per hour, crashing Indiegogo, and probably setting some kind of land speed record in awesomeness.

Pretty awesome of the Internet to rectify this problem. Considering it's "only" $1.6 million to buy Nikola Tesla's lab today I am appalled that nobody that can afford it has actually given a s*** in 95 years.

Edison was about as much of an inventer as Steve Jobs - taking the credit for work done by the people he employed. Or didn't.

It should be noted that there was an "anonymous" donation of $33,333 that people speculate is from Elon Musk (founder of Tesla Motors and general all round hero).

i wonder what other crazy things he would have accomplished if he were given proper funding.

wasn't he trying to do free wireless electricity but no one wanted to fund him because they wouldn't make any money from it?

He did get funding to build it, more precisely he was given funding because of the wireless transmission of text, picture and other information that was the primary purpose of the building. J.P.Morgon in fact.

The thing went over budget + a stock market crash of 1901 had everyone race to protect money among other things. The fact that another fellow came along and used 17 of Tesla's patents to build a device that became the first application of wireless radio transmission pretty much halted Tesla's Tower construction.

Nikola Tesla also had a photographic memory and tended not to right down the specifics of his inventions in his notes as the data he needed was always readily available in his head. Hence a lot of the information on what he was building died with him. To this day his wireless transmission of power over great distances (possibly world-wide) is still debated but unfortunately is most likely considered not to work at long distance.

Edit: O and Thomas Edison did some pretty s*** things and Nikola deserves far, far more credit then Edison ever did.

You can have wireless transmission now, just not on the scale Tesla had in mind.

There is a chance the wireless electricity Tesla was working on was just line-of-sight beams of energy, which have limited (safe) use.

To say it's all based on hearsay is a pretty big misrepresentation. Perhaps some of the pro-Tesla stuff is based on hearsay, but most, if not all of the anti-Edison stuff is well documented, and there's even more that wasn't mentioned in the comic.

Edison was the Apple Inc. of his time, much more interested in patenting ideas, making lots of money from them, tightly controlling their usage and frivolously suing over them than actually innovating and improving technology.
