"Neil Armstrong was also a reluctant American hero who always believed he was just doing his job. He served his Nation proudly, as a navy fighter pilot, test pilot, and astronaut. He also found success back home in his native Ohio in business and academia, and became a community leader in Cincinnati.
While we mourn the loss of a very good man, we also celebrate his remarkable life and hope that it serves as an example to young people around the world to work hard to make their dreams come true, to be willing to explore and push the limits, and to selflessly serve a cause greater than themselves.
If I was a billionaire, I would blow it all on a trip to the moon.
John Carmack tweeted in response to this news: "RIP Neil Armstrong. I believe that the best hope of another standing on the moon before all the moonwalkers have passed lies in Elon Musk. "
We still have a long long long way to go before even billionaires can get back to the moon but fortunately some of them, like Elon, are working on it.
It makes me very sad to think that even 40 years after Neil Armstrong first did it, the possibility exists that noone else will do this within my lifetime - and that I won't have the chance to stand on the surface of the moon to look back at the Earth. I hope he and the other smart and dedicated people working on this are able to make it happen.

I didn't think anyone walked on the moon in trog lifetime?
certainly not mine
I think the golden age has passed, and I doubt there will be any big leaps in space exploration for many many years
and while it was cool to land another rover on mars, and it was done in a very complex fancy way, I dont think we will be seeing a man do the same thing (unless that is they somehow make a viable head in a jar setup ala futurama)

Incoming depressing xkcd... "65 Years" published a little over a year ago.
