INTERNATIONAL hacking group Anonymous says it has taken at least 10 Australian government websites offline in a series of escalating attacks over proposed changes to privacy laws.
Anonymous today said the websites were back up and running but the list included:
When I heard about this, I went to all the qld goverment websites I could think of, but none were affected.
Now I see the list - I haven't heard of any of those. I don't imagine those are part of anyone's daily routine.
I googled it and seemed they just had a argument over twitter about SOPA. Anon then released what they thought was some personal info about Dana (address, phone number etc) but it was actually some random woman who copped all forms of shit. Pretty meh from what i read.
Oh hay guys this completely unrelated to body building thread is boring to me so lets make it related to body building.
Fuck off deadlyf. Big Brother was mentioned and i only saw the ad a day or 2 ago (joys of tivo). I wasnt trying to derail the thread or anything, i was just surprised to see him in the ad given his profession. Dont see you adding anything to this thread.
Dana White (UFC boss) came out supporting SOPA. Anon didn't like that so they DDoS'd his website a couple of times, then put the anon logo on it and released a social security number and personal details of the wrong Dana White (some random woman...)
He basically came back with (paraphrased) "I don't give a shit. My social security number? Really? Enjoy that for all it's worth, people."
What makes it all funny is that White is essentially a bogan and he said, "Go on, hack me again." and they did, and a hacker was arrested by the FBI for credit card fraud.
Just amusement all 'round really, with quotes from White like, ‘Come find me, you fuckin’ nerds. Here’s my hotel. I’m in Chicago. Come find me.’

None of that is a valid reason for that pic to be in this thread.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not the thread police and don't really care but you have to admit it's a pretty left field post and worthy of comment.
What? So the government wants my password for my home PC? I don't think so. You can have it when you can take it from my cold dead fingers.
I think the password thing is more about accessing encrypted files. I.e., if you don't provide a p/w to your encrypted file system then it is an offense. Of course, the way that laws are written and work I have no doubt it would end up being applied to all kinds of crap.

What encrypted files? Stored on the internet? Or stored on my home PC? She said they can plant and delete stuff from your home PC at will so I figure they want remote desktop like capabilities in which case they can fuck off, I'm cancelling my internets.

The plan is to use these options like line-tapping telephones. Since a lot of communication is not done via telephone anymore (email, chat, IRC, etc) then obviously the police are unable to intercept certain commincation without law changes.
They can't just do all this on a whim, just like they couldn't with tapping telephones.
My biggest problem with all these laws is that there are plenty of things on the internet you could access without any intention at all. E.g., You browse a forum and are exposed to something illegal someone else posted. You have used a carriage service to access illegal content - even though you didn't want to. It's possible to jam illegal content down people's throats - and the internet is a global service so while local law dictates your legal activity someone in another region with different laws could be acting within the law.
In a nutshell, the internet is still a wild and undeveloped beast and it's easy to see how the proposed laws could be totally misused.
