The music industry wants LimeWire to pay up to $75 trillion in damages after losing a copyright infringement claim. That's right . . . $75 trillion. Manhattan federal Judge Kimba Wood has labeled this request "absurd."

Multiple choice question time!

Assuming they are after restitution on a per infraction basis and have credible evidence, the amount cited is:

a) Too much - lolwut phwoar etc
b) Too little - it'd be way more than that ; heaps of people go 24/7 for years etc
c) Irrelevant, null and void due to a non-existant suitable business model - downloades are merely providing statistical feedback
d) I'm not in a positition to comment due to bias or lack of facts
e) You haven't read the thread properly lolwut goody two shoes post medium clarifying image
f) Limewire is not responsible for the content being transferred via their service, null and void chase individuals
g) Set as such to make an emphasisising point proving example/pcdnt
h) This question is lacking options and needs user reply submitted amending

Let's make it fun and make it so you can choose multiple answers - I choose c 1/2 and a smidge of f and g. :)

How come their EULA didn't protect them? I thought that is what those things are suppose to do in that it stops the company being sued because their users read it, but did not follow the outlined details.

While they are asking for the impossible, why not ask for the moon. RIAA can build a secret base on the dark side of the moon and launch Interplanetary lawyer missiles at earth, handing notices to filthy people who downloaded a crappy movie that no one really saw.

A EULA has little to no legal weight, just like when Sony introduced the condition in the PSN EULA that you aren't allowed to sue them if you sign it.

The crappiest part of this is they start at 75 trillion, everyone goes "that's absurd"... so they lower it to 50 billion or whatever, and then people think "well, that's much more reasonable." When infact, it's still absurd.

launch Interplanetary lawyer missiles at earth,

Already been done: Check it
[Riker] "Good God captain! Those are humans floating straight toward
the Borg ship with no life support suits! How can they survive the
tortures of deep space ?!"

[Data] "I don't believe that those are humans sir, if you will look
closer I believe you will see that they are carrying something
recognized by twenty-first century man as doe skin leather briefcases,
and wearing Armani suits"

[Riker and Picard together horrified] "Lawyers !!"

My experience with lime-wire about 3 years ago went like this.

Search : "Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood'
-enter-
44,000 hits
"Gorillaz - Clint eastwood hot young teen gets f***ed 45"
"Gorillaz - Backdoor llama fisting 5 extended edition"
"Gorillaz Girl gives blumpkins while solving math"

etc.

So to put it into perspective, limewire has enabled the music and entertainment industry to miss out on tapping each person in the world, $11,000 dollars.

Just as a reference; the average income of each person in the world is $7,030 per year.

I love how the woman who wrote the article indirectly calls her readers stupid by saying they probably didn't even know trillion was a real number.
