i have nothing but respect for emergency services. imagine having to receive those calls every day. but yeah, such a sad story.
The 911 call makes me want to spit in a cops face. They always have to be so antagonistic no matter what.
to be fair, they're entering a house with a guy who's suicidal and armed with a pistol.

How can you make a 6 minute long call to 911 after shooting yourself in the head?

We're all the descendants of countless generations of life which lived, inheriting the survivors' competing natures, it'd take a shitload of willpower to attempt to kill yourself given that I'd think...

nah, willpower is living and driving though terrible, frustrating circumstances striving for better things, not taking the easy way out and making it worse for your family and friends.
willpower is doing something about it if you are depressed, or having a tough time, not giving up on yourself.
there isn't anything shameful about being depressed, but in my opinion there is with not doing your utmost to improve your life, be that medication, or therapy, or whatever.

That's too abstract for me, I was talking about literal fighting-one's-evolutionary-nature-at-its-core willpower.
Anyway, before presuming too much about getting undepressed as a definitely-even-available option, I'd suggest you try a few decades of it if you haven't. It's the latest styleeee maaan. All-in attempts to improve your life may just make it fifteen-fold worse when you utterly fail it seems...

I mean, actually taking a gun and pulling the trigger would be hard, Just knowing that you're about to blow your face off would take a fair amount of guts to do. I'm not talking about the consequences. I doubt I could go thru with that. I'd go the easy way and take a shitload of pills and alcohol if I was gonna do it.

I watched a show on 911 calls years ago with the exact same situation. Pills would also be my option. No way would I shoot myself.

In one of the Seinfeld opening monologues Jerry jokes about people who fail at killing themselves, saying their lives are now even worse because "here is another thing you stink at".

it seems hard to you and probably most other people because you enjoy life. some people with the gun in their mouths might see it as the easiest decision of their lives.

I doubt that it'd ever be easy, it'd be like jumping out of a burning building because the fire is more frightening, as I think I've heard analogised before. Having been super depressed, it's crossed my mind tbh, and it's not about it being easy, it's about life being unbearably painful.

Nerfington said it wouldn't be easy so just acknowledge his opinion and move the fuck on.
Have we learned NOTHING from 2011?

The thing to learn here is that people seem to think it is appropriate to debate about whether enduring pain vs killing oneself is more courageous or easy. We learn little about suicide, it's obviously far more complicated than the scope of these debates, but we learn a lot about the people engaging in these arguments.

I think the vast majority of people who live normal lives really do have absolutely no clue about mental health

Von Bargen is also known for his roles in "Malcolm in the Middle" and "The West Wing."
just looked him up on IMDB, he was in ONE episode of the west wing. Watched that series through 6-7 times and don't recall him at all.

Celebrity gossip website TMZ.com reported that von Bargen shot himself "in the temple" during an apparent attempted suicide on February 20, 2012. He placed a phone call to a 911 operator who dispatched an emergency unit to von Bargen's Montgomery, Ohio apartment. The actor suffers from diabetes, and has already had one leg amputated. He was due to have "at least" some toes amputated on the other foot, and did not want to submit to another surgery.
Still cowardice in my book

Yeah he played a no name general (USAF 3 star) in two episodes In the shadow of two gunmen part 1 (S02E01) and Noel (S02E10). Strangely enough Noel was the episode about Josh, his PTSD, and the pilot who flew into the mountain deliberately.

imagine living life every day and all you can think about is how bad everything is, like there is literally no hope
you have no control over it, you can't do anything to combat it, it's 100% outside of your control, which makes you feel ever worse, it compounds on itself like a vicious never ending cycle
now tell me, what would you do?
some people are lucky enough to have people to help them, but there are lots who aren't so lucky.
I think it's pretty pathetic that ignorant people such as yourself still take such archaic views on mental health, but that's your generation i suppose.

Indeed. Mind-crazy can get really bad, where simple judgements like 'bravery' and 'cowardice' no longer apply, just an animal trying to endure the pain. One would be very lucky to be so unfamiliar with it that they can look at it that way. When the past, present, and future are bleaker than you ever imagined they'd be, bravery and cowardice aren't even real things, just silly words thrown around by talking apes living in some other world.

It's funny how he's remembered for being in Seinfeld when he was only in 4 eps. But he was in 15 eps of Malcolm In The Middle. Although I never watched that show so I have no idea who he played in it.

Being depressed doesn't actually make you an expert on depression.
It sure as shit doesn't mean you get to declare with authority how other people's illness makes them feel.
