US space weather monitors say a potent solar flare has unleashed the biggest radiation storm since 2005 and could disrupt some satellite communications in the polar regions.

its an M 8.7 flare,

considering the one we got a few days ago was an M 3.2 sized flare, this one has the potential to be damaging to ground based electronics too.



towards the end you can see the strength of the one that had started days ago, and compare it to the one that's hitting us pretty much now.
