Faceman is correct, they were built to withstand the impact of an airplane, however the maintenance never re-applied the fire proofing inside the structure.

Hence they didnt fall straight away, only after yonks of fire burning and melting the steel.

Jet fuel can't burn at temperatures high enough to melt steel. I know it's true because I saw it in Zeitgeist.

But it's still impossible to believe that in both towers, the 4 main steel supports all miraculously snapped at the exact right angles to result in not one, but two perfect demolitions.
