I don't know if Tyson is necessarily particularly accomplished, his thing is just science communication, though he's still very well educated.

Richard Feynman was one of the more recent greats to my knowledge. Even in books from a few decades ago, I see Dawkins referenced a lot as a leading evolutionary biologist as well. Plus, I learned yesterday that he invented the word meme -
