Copyright Corruption Scandal Surrounds Anti-Piracy Campaign - is the headline.
Source story

seems double standards apply if your trying to impose copyright
Anti-piracy group BREIN is caught up in a huge copyright scandal in the Netherlands. A musician who composed a track for use at a local film festival later found it being used without permission in an anti-piracy campaign.

or are they? was it just some unscrupulous board member maybe?

Earlier this year, however, a breakthrough seemed to loom on the horizon when Buma/Stemra board member Jochem Gerrits contacted the composer with an interesting proposal. Gerrits offered to help out the composer in his efforts to get paid for his hard work, but the music boss had a few demands of his own.

interesting read. who's watching the watchers?

haha this is such a great story. You would think they would be utterly careful about it and not make mistakes like this, but it just goes to show the ludicriousness of the whole situation - trying to manage global rights for a billion artists, songs, albums, movies, etc and each country having different access to those rights is basically impossible to do.

The whole idea of corporate entities being able to bury people in legal fees should be considered no more than financial assault designed to make lawyers rich.

An independant arbitrator should determine how much the small guy could afford in a maximum amount of legal fees and then apply this amount to both sides as a maximum that the corporation can spend on their well of lawyers etc with a set timeframe for it to be concluded (eg two years etc).

In theory its great.

In practice, the lawyer scum get their mates into politics, like they all are to wrote laws to facilitate the necessity of having even more lawyers to interpret the laws that other lawyers wrote. There's not way lawyers are going to write a law that puts their mates out of a job.

They would still get around that by having "bonuses" or "consultation fees" for the lawyers. That said, this doesn't sound like it has anything to do with lawyers, it didn't mention the guy had got lawyers involved at all or that it had gone to court, simply that when he went to the royalty collection agency he was pretty much ignored or given the run around until a board member of the royalties agency tried to swindle him out of a third of his royalties for "sorting it out".

I'm sure lawyers are involved now though.

well there is only one way for this guy to get his money.. lawyers.. since its not criminal offence when an organisation does it, but it is a criminal offence when an individual does it.... either way lawyers win....

also the irony of the situation is not lost me.. so lol..
