Hm, It's just that he said 'Mr President' and then paused, Just assumed it was a mistake because everyone was addressing him as Mr President.

I'm not particularly political, don't have very strong views either way, but whatever else he is, Obama is hands down a fucking awesome public speaker, I'd follow him if I was american. He also made Gillard look like a rank amateur by comparison.

Mr President is the correct way to address the President of the Senate. Currently it is Senator John Hogg (Labor, Qld).
What's Gillard doing in the Senate?
It's a joint sitting of the house.

Making Gillard look like a rank amateur isn't a difficult task. Be it in public speaking or any other facet of human interaction or indeed life.

He has very good delivery...with a teleprompter and script. He is not an orator. If you want to listen to oratory get some of Churchill's debates into you.

So JJJ have been talking a LOT about this stationing of troops in Australia and what effect it will have on our relationship with China. They've sort of hinted that China have had a bit of a whinge about it, but I haven't heard an explicit quote that really makes me think they would really give two shits about 2,000 troops.
I don't have a problem with a measly 2,000 troops; sounds like a good way to import American loot (other than the fact that the greenback is worthless).
I can't really get why JJJ are really making a big deal about it.

Haha Timmeh.
I think the 2000 troops is more a signal then anything else.
Infi there is nothing wrong with the US responding to an arms race with China, other than the obvious that arms races are dumb and dangerous. We just need to be careful about being too blatantly with the US if we want to be friends with China. Bleh
Also what the fuck was Abbots problem going on about republican presidents to a democrat that has an insanely hard time with the republicans? Is he trying to piss him off? Nice thinking Abbott, antagonize the leader of our most powerful ally.

i think it would have been nicer if they just finished (or gave up on) the damn JSF instead, 2000 marines, + however many troops we could muster up vs china (and Indonesia)
and we are protected by 100 shitty jets,

China already hates us.< /quote> no, america is likely trying to use us to improve relations with china because currently we are one of the only western countries that have good relations with china.
I think its a really bad idea to show to much bumlove to america, I certainly thing ongoing relations with china (which have the biggest impact to our economy) should be a strong focus and we shouldn't allow other countries to use our land to disturb or cause poor relations... especially considering american foreign relations doesn't really seem to benefit us.

Not for asian security its not.
Would it not be better to have a second substantial super power in Asia so that China is not the single dominant military power, so they can't annex other countries, for example?
