Queensland state elections?

Watching junior masterchef with the wife atm (yeah yeah gotta get the fix somewhere without stinky!) and there was just a full blown attack add aimed at Campbell Newman from the ALP attacking him on BCC rate rises, city cycle and the clem7 tunnel (why does no one realise that the CLEM7 was as much a state project as a council project???).
Pretty sure this is the first one that's been out on mainstream media as opposed to just attacking each other through comments to the news media etc, I've tried looking for the add on youtube but it hasn't made it there yet as far as I can tell.
The last election was held on the 21st of March 2009 so we're due for one within 5 months (I think). If the attack adds are starting now, how long ya'all reckon it'll be before there is an announcement?

I despise those adverts, I much prefer the simple this is what we offer ads. Hopefully soon, I really, really can't stand Anna Bligh, she suited the checkout chick at Coles Marsden position I saw her in when I popped in for a coke.

I'm exactly the same and whilst I usually vote Liberal the last state election I never heard one "this is what we will do" add only attack adds for Labor. That really put me off the liberals last time around.
I am really hoping both sides come out and give us some real positive policies to consider this time around.
Also interested in when this will all go down because I do a lot of work consulting to Transport and Main Roads which will obviously go into caretaker mode once an election is announced.

Thats interesting.
Its getting late in the year to call an Election.
The first Saturday after School ends would be the only window this year, a short 6 weeks campaign.
The LNP are self-imploding due to Katters Australia Party.
Apparantly some are planning to join Katters Party after the Election when they will possibly hold the balance of power.
Depending on how well Katters mob do we could be seeing the birth of a new Federal Conservative Party based in QLD. It would be a bit like overthrowing the Federal Nationals.
Sir Joh would be proud.

Election is due before March 2012.
I laugh at labor attacking can do's credibility. This is the same labor govt that brought you convicted pedophile Bll D'Arcy and convicted corrupt public official Gordon Nuttall. Not to mention admitted vote rigger Mike Kaiser who is now working for Gillard labor's NBN and workplace bully Pat Purcell.

That really put me off the liberals last time around. I know what you mean. I make sure to not pigeon hole myself into a Liberal or Labor camp but Labor's homosexual tenancies towards the Greens (pretty sure they are both dudes), has been fairly detrimental to many a small community including my own, so I went Libs last election (and won fuckers) but they really were not at all impressive and I felt like I was voting for them in spite of Labor instead of for what the Libs stood for.
Hopefully Can Do can give them some direction, once you remove the conservatism from the conservative party they are an alright bunch.

Let not forget the rest...
- Traveston Dam debacle
- Subsuming water utilities from local councils and then hiking the prices
- The massive QLD health payroll bungle
- Doubling stamp duty from this year

Ahh, telling me the negatives about the other party instead of your own positives is a sure fire way of getting me to not vote for you. Not that I'd vote for Bligh this election anyway.

Yeah, attack ads are just low, but sadly the stupid also get to vote. Politicians should be required to tell us what they will do if elected, so they can be held to task when they don't do it.
But most importantly, "speak of your plans, not of your toys" - tell us HOW you're going to achieve it, not just what.

Dazhel, lets not forget the other ones
- Hiking rego every year
- Stealing our 8cpl fuel subsidy
- Dropping our AAA credit rating
- Coming out broke after a mining boom

Saint, you would never vote anything but LNP anyways.

You understand right that is exactly what the LNP has been doing at state and national levels for 3 years now ? That is why the LNP hired ex-labor staffers to create dirt-files (until they got caught ... let's behonest both sides and the media do it, why does anyone pretend they don't).
i.e. I doubt you could tell me what Tony Abbott's stance is on anything except "the opposite of labor", oh and boat people should go to Nauru.
Australian politics is useless. Right now I am going to vote for the empty square (unless there is a pretty lady to vote for)...

yeah insom
previously when you bought a property, the stamp duty was about ~$15k, unless you were going to live in the house, and then your stamp duty was 'discounted' to half of that
state labor took away that 'discount' - so now if you move house you need to pay the full $15k stamp duty. oh and this was only 6 months or so after the treasurer, andrew fkwit fraser, said that stamp duty was a relic and should be abolished, and then he goes and effectively doubles it.

the state liberals have nothing else but to try and throw mud, they have been beaten abd pulverised for how many years now?
i've never seen an ad from the state libs that wasn't purely based on trying to speak shit about the government in the time i can remember
i defs wouldn't mind seeing campbell newman as the premier

It's actually more than double Insom, it's been increased by 125%.
I was amazed too that it seemed to slip completely under the media radar.

as a previous beneficiary of the home concession i'm sad to see it go, but whether it's actually a doubling depends somewhat on the purchase price

Labor is gonna get smashed. It feels good.
It's hard for a party to get policy out into the media, because the media only cares about the salacious muck... think about it.

Actually, I'll concede that point - the LNP are a joke - If I was still living in Brisbane I'd vote for Campbell because I actually think he likes to get stuff done.
That said, rego and all that other crap went up a ton under Labour, either way you're screwed in QLD.
(rego is still cheaper than NSW, I had to re-rego my bike and fuck me that cost a fortune)

Kate Jones is actually a good candidate and its a shame that she will be pushed out. Maybe she will try for a Federal Seat, going to be dozens empty after the next federal election because THOSE LABOR LIARS ARE GOING DOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWN
