Wasn't there a promotion where you could travel with Tiger Airways to certain destinations for 9c plus taxes?

i used these guys when i went from melbourne to sydney last week. Worst airline i've ever used.

We rocked up about an hour early, waited in a line that was insane. They had 1 person doing the check in, i didnt have to check any large baggage, but we needed to wait in this line to get our ticket. About 30 minutes before we were supposed to board i jumped out of the line to go up the front cause i didnt want to miss the flight, we had moved about 2 meters in the line. I asked one of the girls what was going on and if we could get a ticket, she said that our flight was now closed and we had to pay $70 to transfer..... So we had to pay that, plus they wanted me to pay another $25 because my carry on was heavier than 7 kg's. I had to stuff some stuff in a friends bag.

Once we went through we found out that the plane we were supposed to be on was delayed anyway....

All the planes around me were delayed, one was for 6 hours.
My new flight was also delayed because they didnt have enough flight crew to take off.

Had some people that i was with in melbourne leave later that night and they were also delayed.

A few days before 2 friends of mine mentioned that they just used them and it was also the worst experience they have had.

Never using them again.

I don't think I could bring myself to fly Tiger with all the horrid reports I hear from people who have flown them. My own view on flying is that you pay for what you get (as evident by Crash's experience). Although these problems can happen with any airline (LCC or full service) I'm keeping my flying dollars with Qantas for the main reason being that if the fuck up, they do what they can do fix the problem without going "Tough shit" and expect you to pay more to fly on a different flight, next day, etc.

I know Jetstar is a subsidiary of Qantas but does the quality of service translate over?

Also, from what I'm looking at the difference between Jetstar flights and Qantas economy is more than $100.

the seats on virgin are smaller than qantas, also their drinks & food are crap
qantas seats are more comfy, food is free and drinks are free (except certain spirits)

i would fly virgin between major capitals if their seats were slightly larger, as it is now i prefer qantas because its only usually $50 more expensive but they're 100% more professional and easier to book/board with

Flown Jetstar twice (return Melb -> Launceston and Melb -> Brisbane) and it was pretty good. Staff were friendly, courteous, polite and helpful my only complaint is having to fly out of Avalon (to Brisbane) so I won't be flying them again. For the shorter 50min trip to Launceston they were great.

In reality they are the same as any transport however if a bus or train runs out fuel/electricity it generally doesn't end in flaming fireball of carnage. The problem with LCC airlines is that everything is low cost so you have to wonder about the pay packet of the guys at the front driving the thing and how over worked they are.

There's lots of discussions on pprune about the pay conditions of some European LCC and the pay rates are shocking - some are so low they qualify for food stamps and vouchers from the government.

For my own safety I'll pay the bit extra for the peace of mind knowing I'm with one of the world's safest airlines even if it's only a placebo effect.

I think generally speaking with airlines, it's not who has the better perks - bigger seats, shorter lines, whatever - it's which airline is better at dealing with you when something goes wrong. Any airline can lose your luggage or give away your seat or run late because of mechanical issues, but the best ones make the wait or issue less complicated and painful for the customer.

I think Qantas and Virgin are both great for this reason, but there are some shockers overseas - and Tiger as well by the sounds of it.

my girlfriend flew into melbourne on tiger - they then circled melb airport for 45 minutes because they didn't have enough ground staff on to land the plane...they didn't have enough ground staff on to land a SCHEDULED PLANE - put me off ever using them, i don't care if they are $30 cheaper. mates have used them to fly into asia really cheaply and as long as you have shitloads of time (ie get to airport really really early and are willing to wait with hefty layovers) it can be a cheap way to get into singapore (they were going to india) etc - they went goldcoast to melbourne, melbourne to darwin, darwin to singapore (or something equally ridiculous) with layovers at each stop - personally not my cup of tea, but they got there cheap!

As if - bus and train seats are massive, and you can stretch out, planes are so claustrophobic. Not that anyone here would get busses and trains.

Further, babies and young children seem to have this amazing ability to determine that they are on a budget flight, and scream their fucking lungs out the whole way. Never had that problem on Qantas or when I roll in my private jets

I've flown Tiger - no problems. Apart from the crappy flight times it was fine. Jetstar - no problems, either.

Qantas are OK, but pretty crappy service in flight from what I've experienced, even in business class. Singapore airlines FTW.

Citing the possibility of the pilots being overworked inferior is stupid - the type of pilots + requirements to fly for those domestic routes in Australia is high, regardless of the airline.

Personally I don't mind Virgin Blue. I needed flights between Syd and Bris over christmas - cost me about $190 return with Virgin Blue. Would have cost ~$100 more to go with Qantas, just not worth it for a 1 hour flight.

With Qantas blowjobs from a skanky stewardess are included in the ticket price, with the low cost carrier you just have to pay a little bit extra.

I have flown Tiger maybe 6-7 times in the last three months, never a problem. They make it very clear that you have to check in <45min before flight (because check-in crew become gate crew and board the passengers) - so I don't have any sympathy for anyone that can't handle that simple instruction.

Best way to fly is definitely one carrier in one direction then a different carrier on the return leg. I have rarely flown the same carrier both ways.

I've only flown Jetstar once a few years ago when I was going to Cairns. They booked us on the wrong flight so we had to wait a couple of hours for the next one. Which was no biggy to us, but the fact that we then had to walk around with a big suitcase and scuba diving gear for a few hours made it a bit annoying. I don't particularly like flying in general, but I'd be happy enough to fly Jetstar again for short flights like that. As for Tiger, I've watched their show on tv and that's put me off ever using them. The way they deal with customers is really pathetic.

This explains a lot!

LOL, go and book a flight right now, FaceMan! Go to WA or Thailand or something!

Edit: @Minxy, I've seen some of their 'customer service' (or lack thereof) first-hand. I was amused that anyone who works for a company could treat anyone like that. But even still, it's always over stuff like people with too much hand luggage (when it's clear how much you are allowed to carry) and so on, and people are just trying to skirt the $10/bag luggage check-in fee. I would get frustrated telling random people the same shit over and over again too probably. Even still, if you fly by their rules there are no problems.

i fly virgin because i work for them and it's free. $300 return to thailand on a 777 oh yeah. can't wait it starts in a few weeks. i think its about $400 return to LA aswell for me. but its all stand by so if the flight books out i don't get on.

we have way too many males and old lady hosties these days. jetstar have really lifted their game with hot chicks. qantas are all old betties but a couple of hotties every now and then.

never flown jetstar or tiger but i probably would. if it was to save alot of coin anything under $50 isn't worth it.

this doesn't fly with me, for the movies or for flying/travel etc
I've found myself in *plenty* of situations where I just didn't have time to organise anything before I got on my flight

ie. finished working at 5.30am in Sydney and had to fly back to Brisbane on the 6.05am flight, barely make it to board in time
edit: thus in flight service means something to some people

you must be spewin wrecktim

if you ever get to work for a real airline, you get interline discounts with other carriers, i can fly literally ANY airline for the same staff rate that i pay to fly on qantas.

jal business class to tokyo from brisbane return, $450

oh yeah, flown quite a few airlines now, cathay, emirates, singapore, qantas, virgin, jetstar.

the foreign ones are supposed to be part of the upper teir, of those emirates was the most fucked, cabin crew just do not want to be there, along with their seats that had a special lumbar function which was locked out in the full extend position because they obviously couldn't be fucked fixing it all the time, not comfortable at all.

cathay service was on par with emirates, then again theyve just butchered all the salaries for their cabin crew, lowered the requirement to speak functional english, and encourage each other to report(dob) on their peers performance every flight (go read pprune.com if you dare), so any wonder they dont give a fuck.

every jetstar flight i've been on was late - if you work within that group you can understand why, they don't have the aircraft available to rescue a broken delayed plane. if a qantas flight goes u/s often they shuffle passengers around the network to get them there any way they can, or substitute another aircraft for that flight if they can, or pull one out of a scheduled short maintenance visit for an extra day to keep the network running smooth, even buying a seat on virgin if need be..

jetstar don't do this. they dont have any engineers on the ground during the day to fix anything, so when the plane goes u/s, it sits there all day until they can either call someone in on overtime, or until nightshift gets to work and they can rectify the problem then.

tiger is even more thin on the ground then jetstar, which is ok when your fleet in brand new... coupla years time it will be interesting how they grow, the airline can get by with a skeleton staff for the first few years, as virgin blue did, but VB are getting bigger and bigger with newer departments, heavy maintenance requirements, planning depts, unions etc, they will be qantas with small planes in about 5 years, there will be no advantage, just disgruntled staff working for peanuts

and not being bias, nothing at all to complain about with qantas, domestic/international, economy/business, its the most consistant level of everything since i've been doing heaps of flying in the last 8 years or so since i started work with them. sure some of the flight attendants are battleaxes but who cares, youre flying with an airline that gives 35000 direct employment (does virgin/tiger) they do their maintenance on shore (does virgin/tiger), they are the only airline who rescues australians overseas at instant notice when shit hits the fan (does virgin/tiger). whats to complain about ?

Yeah so true, cute flight attendants factor only lasted so long, when all you really want is a good flight that's on time and good in flight service after a long day. Qantas club's definitely a plus especially if the meeting finished early and you couldn't be fucked hanging around town. A+ Qantas
