BF2 Lan Comp - Looking for interest

Years ago we did this once for Tribes 1 when it came out and it worked quite well with just 25 people. It was ToM (Tribe of MPU) v's ?? (the guys from Wollongong).
For BF2 we can do it the same.
We find a venue with 2 smaller rooms next to each other that can hold (say) 20 people each.
We have 2 team captains.
We set a schedule with comp times, short break times (between comps say 30 mins) and long break times (lunch & dinner say 1 hour). That way we all play together and all break together, and all drink together - much more fun - not disjointed.
We get people to register.
We set each room up so they can 'round table' with centre closed but close enough that they can communicate.
We sign post the door to each room with a team name.
We run a network cable between the two rooms.
We have a white board in each room for Captain to explain strategies to team prior to each comp.
We play.
No need for prizes, but would need MPU to provide power lead rigs, switches, a dedicated server, and admin the network for the day (and play hopefully). If ya really want I could organise 20 trophies (or T Shirts) for winning team and 20 for runner's up team. Would add to cost tho. or just 1 T-Shirt to mark the day is two colours (eg red and blue) for each team to wear.
Anyway. what you guys think. How about shortly after the xmas break? I can help organise it if you like, find the reliable players who will want to play etc, do schedule, find venue, organise shirts, stuff like that.

well, LT have around 15 BF2 players in the Sydney area. Maybe an idea would be to get as many people (limiting to number of players as a function of what map size would be suitable) and randomise the teams.
I have to admit though, the idea sounds good and i would be interested.

Thanks Woody,
EL would be able to field about 10:
Nmag*
Chulmago*
Firefly*
Styles*
Fracas*
Akira*
eZe*
Kimme+
Eldora+
Grailer^
mjam^
Lethal Bear^
*has been an MPU regular in the past
+Said they would be keen
^Don't think they have ever been to MPU but good chance they would come for something like this.
10 EL + 15 LT = 25 (that's a good start)

Sounds Good.
Count the admins in for supplying the power, network, servers, and a few players ;)
If you can find a venue that has a 3-phase outlet, that would cover the power needs for the day easily.

awesome, will start looking
at what point (numbers wise) do we need to move to 3 phase (415v)?

All depends. A single 3-phase circuit will allow us to run about 50 players, plus servers and comms gear.
A normal 10A 240V circuit will probably support about 10 players. So if the venue doesn't have 3-phase, but has 1/2 doz or so standard circuits, then that might do as well.
3-phase just gives is morte control - we provide the circuit breakers, and uf we have an issue, we don't have to go ferreting around in fuse boxes or distribution boards...

ok kewl, thanks bertie, yeah i will take that into account in sourcing a venue, it's just a 415v power point may be more likely to be at a massive hall (not any many joints will have them i guess), where as the normal 240 will be everywhere.
I'm thinking we should cap it at around 35 players and run it on 32 player maps. They seem to flow a bit better and we could fit a group of say 17 or 18 in each of 2 standard smaller rooms.
Will source some venues and ask about power.
