Holy crap - it's less than a week to the next MPU. And this last event for the year will mark the end of MPU as we know it. With ever dwindling numbers, and more and more people gaming online and at cafes, we've made the most difficult decision ever and decided to declare "Game Over!" for MPU.
So we want to make this weekend's MPU the best ever and go out with an almighty bang. To do this, we'll need numbers. As many people as possible. Bring your friends, family, co-workers, and make it one to remember.
There's going to be some serious fun at this one - Like plenty of Dance Dance Revolution action on the projector, a Tiger Woods 2005 golf challenge, Soldat CTF, CS:Source Admin challenge revisited, some BF2, and whatever else people want to play on the day.
So get your butt over to the rego page here and sign up and confirm, and we'll see you on the 8th for our farewell LAN...

Woah. Didn't see that coming.
Although I've never been to an MPU, I enjoyed the time we ran WCG-AU with you guys some years ago.
Good luck with the event and thereafter.

What's wrong with ZGeek. I think they're a pretty good bunch of Sydney peeps and their LANs are pretty good.

Bye MPU (as we know it now, anyway). :(
My mates and i have been regular attendees of MPU for a while now, so it's sad to see this happen. Hopefully things turn out well with the new format, if you guys go ahead with it. We'll spread the good word as always.
Thanks for the fun anyway, i'm sure i'm not alone in appreciating all the hard work that all the people involved have put in over the years. Here's to the end of a great LAN, and hopefully to the start of an even greater one.
Cheers MPU.

Well. I guess it was fun while it lasted. My Daughter is crying because the last MPU ever has been cancelled... I'm pretty close to tears myself being a big woozy balding girls blouse. Not a pretty site I must say.
Big thanks go out to all the Admins for their tireless work in organising everything. Finding a new venue and creating a little hope and joy once a month for the low low price of 20 bucks.
I want to extend my warmest heartfelt thanks and a big hug to everyone who made coming to MPU a pleasure. There's too many people to name but special thanks go Dave, Heardy, Em, Gav, Bertie, Alshandra, Ben, Dan (have you found your boot?) Moe, Strider, Santa, $hifty, BSS, Nats and I'm sure there are a few others I've failed to mention.
Yes I know I sound like a suck but I'm going to miss you all. And the event of course.
Thanks for the memories.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys. It's stuff like this that made the decision really, really difficult. And the same reason why we haven't completely shut up shop.
For all you regulars, please make sure you email address registered with ausgamers is correct, so we can keep in touch with you should we have any "invite-only" events.

 Damn!
This was the first LAN I attended. Back in late 2000. Sad to see it go. Admittedly I haven’t been to one for ages. I was always hoping to get to one when I had time! Sadly, that never happened. Now, I won't get that chance :(
Love your work...

Sorry to hear about the bad news guys. We haven't had a QGL LAN in a very, very long time but while they were happening they were awesome to go to.
On the bright side there are always other LAN's happening.

Dam ..dam dam …I go away for 6 months fighting wars in foreign counties trying to represent the Australian people. I even set up what I like to call the coalition LAN night so me and my gaming buddies could stay in touch with our mouse click skills. (you don’t know how many “god dams” I had to put up with playing BF2 against 20 Yanks. They scream at each other and yelling contact wait out. Some even give full target indications. and for what? …my dream of a few quite ales and gaming with a few old friends is shattered. MPU is no more.
My wife will be happy but at what COST it’s not fair …..
But seriously I’d like to thank the staff and the regulars, for all there efforts I didn’t turn up to as may as I’d like due to work, wife but pound for pound it was the best LAN going round. Maybe in honor of MPU I’ll have a BEER LAN at my house to remember the fallen .. He who was once so strong……. May eye rest in peace

a group of us amongst others i know stoped atending because it was to much fucking around to wait in line to get in etc..
then mpu was moved to Auburn.. what do you expect but low atendance..
I told the organisers that it was bullshit the way we were made to line up to get in etc expecialy for people like myself that would bring a server or 2 in for others to leech from.. so this is the eventual result.

Attendance had dropped for a number of reasons, but I hardly think having to queue up to pay your entrance fee is the cause - this has been the MPU policy for many, many years. Back in the days when we used to get 200+, there was still a queue to get in.
And which "organisers" did you speak to about this - first I have heard of it...

Well, that just sucks.
I've been somewhat of a regular for the past few years. I think the numbers issue was because of that break between the previous venue and Lidcombe was too long.
Plus, as mentioned, Net cafés, high speed ADSL, etc etc.
The Lidcombe venue was great. Aircon that always worked, friendlier people in the bistro, drinks right near my PC. It's sucks I tell ya.
So sad. very very sad.
Cheers for the good times, and some bad :p
