Just bought myself a new 65" Panasonic Plasma and going to have chilled out weekend. What some good movies to watch. Latest movies I've seen so far. Latest Batman Ted End of Watch Promethius
Watched the latest Resident Evil movie the other day. If you like RE at all, SKIP THIS ONE and forget about the whole series ever happened. WORST RE EVER.
watched the bourne legacy and premium rush last weekend. decent movies. the first 30 mins of bourne were a bit slow but it was the better of the two movies.
Wreck-It Ralph
Mulholland Drive (first time I've watched it without being confused, yay)
Skyfall (it's no Goldeneye, but hey... Spoiler: the movie does not make sense in many ways, but julian assange kills judi dench and they replace her with voldemort, Q is now played by mark zuckerberg, and moneypenny is black)
Disliked End of Watch. Too much drama, not enough police bad assery. And i guessed the ending which is rare for me. Knew they would tug @ the heart strings. Training Day was tonnes better, more action, less drama.
Re wasn't as good as the last ones but worth a watch Imo. I too was surprised with premium rush, watched it after looper. Thought Mr levitt did a great job in looper.
TED is something you'll watch once and wish the dvd stuffed up half way through it
lol@thermite ... description of skyfall... NAILED IT
Have a look at avatar - watched it on the new 70 sharp my mate picked up - its worth watching again to revel in it's 3d beauty on a new screen weather you like the movie or not.
Lord of the rings trilogy on blueray would be pretty epic too - would also consume a large portion of your weekend
Watched Dark Knight Rises on blu-ray. Such a good movie but my god Matthew Modine's character is a waste of time and every scene he is in he just seems to make the scene worse. How much better would have the first Batman scene been if he wasn't in the car with Blake saying his dumb "I'm gonna get the Batman!" lines? Plus every other thing he does is fucking stupid. He really didn't need to be in the movie at all. Maybe they just wanted some sort of joker reference in the movie no matter how vague it was.
if you liked promethius try vanilla ice - cool as ice.
well played. I find promethius to be a great sci-fi flick, only in hindsight. At the time, it was just another spacey movie whilst i kept waiting for any aliens references. I thoroughly enjoyed end of watch. And The world is never enough was on telly the other night. I only like watching bond movies to try and guess when bond is going to say the name of the movie. this one was probably the most easiest.
annoying chick : i can give you the world james Bond : the world is never enough.
Dredd 3D was pretty good. (B grade action flick awesomeness; that and it was a total sleeper film for me (I expected rubbish and was pleasantly surprised))
And Thermite, you need to post that description of Skyfall on the wiki page and IMDB!!

Lies, it was one of the funniest movies I've seen for ages. But then I guess it hinges very heavily on how funny you find Seth Mcfarlane's brand of humour.
Just watched The Sapphires. It's a good Australian movie that doesn't suck like most of them. For once someone actually made a movie that isn't depressing as fuck. Also, this is quite a tear-jerker so you might need some tissues handy. And the music is actually nice as well. I was expecting to skip past the singing but I was pleasantly surprised.

Best review of TED ever, could not agree any more.
Last movie I watched was tonight and was the Bourne Legacy. I have to agree with ravn0s and that the first ~30mins were a bit slow but then most of the other Bourne movies were the same. Picked up towards the end an the obligatory massive action packed chase scene was pretty good.
latest bond movie was crap imo. probably the worst of the newer ones ive seen. One movie that stuck with me was looper. Was more interesting than even the final batman movie.
Are you another one of those people who wanted more laser watches, exploding toothpaste and submarine cars?
Most memorable bond moments aren't the action scenes. Its the conspiracies, characters and interesting places. Cant quite pick why skyfall was bad, but something wasn't right.
Same, but in retrospect it's coz it seemed to want NOTHING to do with the other two [Daniel Craig as Bond] movies. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the plot from 'Casino Royale' directly fed into the plot from 'Quantum of Solace' and I don't for the life of me, recall the QoS plot wrapping up.
Then again, DC is contracted for another Bond flick.
The more I think about it, I liked the 'low-key' approach of Skyfall. More about Bond (y'know, being flawed etc etc), and less about the 'conspiracy of the week'.
I assumed it didn't follow on because Quantum of Solace was shit and they wanted to forget it ever happened.
I'm a bit suprised tbh, because when Skyfall came out and there was a thread about it, it was filled almost entirely with praise, now it seems like everyone didn't like it. I loved it personally, dunno if I agree with the "best Bond movie ever" hyperbole but its certainly up there as one of my favourites.
Skyfall had the best bad guy I have seen in a very long time. He made the movie.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil: This movie is hilarious. It's a parody on the hillbilly serial killer hunting down teenage kids.
Cabin in the Woods: This movie is hard to describe but think SCP (the website) combined with teenage kids in a creepy house. It's fun to watch both sides try and not screw up.
Just on Movies...
Foxtel will be shutting down the Movie Network package.
Movie 1 2 Extra Starpics FMC and greats Gone!
The rumour is they are going to do Movies like SKY in the UK.
So Horror/Sci-fi channel, Romance and drama, Action, Comedy etc.

great movie because it's not your typical horror movie.
Vantage Point Just watched it on 9 luckily i was able to skip Ads coz its one of those movies you have to concentrate on.
The US President is assasinated and the assaination is told from different vantage points of all the players ulitimately at the end you find out the whole plan. good show.
I found Dredd to be an awesome movie extremely undeserving of the shitty box office pull it got. I can only put it down to the horrid Dredd movie from the 90s with Stallone which left a bad taste in people's mouths. Well worth watching.
Something else I found amazing was the japanese movie Rurouni Kenshin. Never seen any of the anime or manga behind it so I went in knowing nothing and still throughly enjoyed it. The speed some of the fights ended up going was pretty nuts too. Good amount of blood in it where it counted. Great action movie so if you can see it, I highly recommend it.
Yeah vantage point was good. Each new viewpoint adds extra info til the twist is revealed.
I also really enjoyed Triangle. Confusing as fuck even after i spent time online trying to understand all the plot twists n shit.
Cabin in the woods was good. Didnt like the whole underpinning idea as to why horror movie scenarios were required.
Saw the new total recall. Really liked some of the tech and the new twist on the movie while keeping some features of the original. I loled when i saw the shithouse rating it got on IMDB. I really enjoyed it.
Saw inglorious basterds for the 2nd time ever a week or so ago. Im not a fan of heavy dialogue movies but goddam that was good. Such great suspense.
I watched Drive recently (I was curious after learning it inspired Hotline Miami). For such a good movie I was surprised I hadn't heard about it when it was released back in 2011. It's a bit of a slow-burner though, so don't watch it if you've got a short attention span.
Just watched The Sapphires. It's a good Australian movie that doesn't suck like most of them. For once someone actually made a movie that isn't depressing as fuck.
Not Suitable For Children is another new one that is ok. It has some hawt sex in it and you get to see Ryan Kwanten's ass again.

I had heard good things about Drive but apart from 1 or 2 brief scenes of violence, it was slow and boring as fuck IMO, the complete opposite of hotline miami.
dredd was kick ass. ted was ok. it wasn't as funny as it was made out to be. i didn't really like looper. i thought it was kind of boring. it might have been because i was expecting it to be an action movie with time travel elements and it wasn't. i have to give it props for that awesome torture scene though.
Pitch Perfect was a fantastic film. I've gone back and rewatched some scenes. I love that song "No Diggity", I'd just been listening to it on YouTube before I watched that movie. What are the odds, in 20 years I hadn't heard that song! Maybe I should start watching Glee.
just watched total recall and for the first time ever in my life i got a visual headache from the CONSTANT STROBE LIGHTING in the movie.. i found i had to turn away from the screen 3 times just because it was too much.
movie is ok but wtf at that lighting idea.. like fuck shit is even flashing in areas where it shouldnt be.
I loved the transport system in Total Recall that went through the earths core, and how it did the gravity switch halfway and everything flipped around. I don't have how implausible it is, that just resonated with me as really freaking cool. Also liked the phone thats embedded in your hand and you put your hand on any pane of glass to make it the screen. The movie was pretty cool I thought, had plenty of good action too.
Twas gonna grab that from werk today but Hotel Transylvania came out yesterday so I'm gonna watch that instead tonite. Only grabbed the 2D version though. I'll get Madagascar 3 tomorrow. So many good things out atm.
Hotel Transylvania was really good but it sorta died near the end. The animation was top notch and I reckon it would look really nice in 3D. Still, I think Tangled is the best animated movie to come out in the last few years. That movie kicks some serious ass.
Just saw Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter. 8/10 IMO for mindless, bloody violence. Wish i had seen it 3D as the visuals were great and there were plenty of scenes i think would have looked good 3D. Also nice bloody slow mos.
Also watched Chernobyl Diaries. 6/10. Finally a 'mocumentary' style horror where its not filmed POV style. The whole time i watched it i was thinking of Stalker and how the movie would have been tonnes better if they added little fucked up creatures n shit. Has inspired me to replay the series.
yer, tangled is awesome rev (its even got mandy in it!).
hard to go past toy story 3 though, or even nemo.
madagascar seems to be giving them both a run for their money.
ive bought the 3d version of hotel transylvania, and will check it out today. also got 3d how to train your dragon, because its supposed to be pretty good as well.
Anyone watched Gangster squad? apparently it's pretty sick, gonna go watch it on my laptop, i mean.. on my laptop through my camera in the cinemas.. yeah..
The Crazies (Viral outbreak semi horror - Very Decent) ill Manors (Brit Street Scum flick - Written / directed / Music by Plan B. Awesome) John Carter (Loved it, the reviews didn’t do it justice!) Cabin in the woods (not bad, but not exceptional however good concept.. I too want to see a merman) Real Steel (Thought I’d throw this on as a no brainer, and loved the heck out of it!) Warrior (Decent MMA flick, but I found it a bit too American for my liking!)
Last few days has been awesome moofie watching weather.
Flight
Werth it just to see the plane crash at the beginning but Denzel Washington was damn awesome in this. The only thing that was dumb was the cheesy ending.
Reel Evil
Wasn't too bad. Was very similar to Grave Encounters although nowhere as good. The main chicky babe is a hottie though.
The Collection
Sequel to the awesome The Collector, I was a little bit disappointed with this. It still has heaps of cool traps but I think it was ruined by having too many people in the movie and even though it's just a "movie" it didn't feel believable. I guess since the first one was so unique at the time it's hard to make a sequel feel different but still have all the cool stuff that made the first one so good. Still werth watching anyway just for the traps and gore.
FlightWerth it just to see the plane crash at the beginning but Denzel Washington was damn awesome in this. The only thing that was dumb was the cheesy ending.
Awesome CGI flight sequence at the start though, agreed. Unfortunately the rest of the flick just fizzles & yeah, you can see the cheese coming a mile away. Not enough John Goodman scenes as well.
Also watched Seven Psycopaths which was disappointing.
Next on the list is The Liability which looks ok.
Yeah, that Seven Psychopaths was really average hey. It started alright but then became really boring when they got to the desert. I've also got The Liability ready to go as well. The story sounds like it might be really cool. Also have Sinister waiting but I've been reading mixed things about it. I didn't like Paranormal Activity but I did like Insidious and it's done by those guys. I'll watch it at nite for better effect.

The Queen of Versailles - Doco crew scored big time here with a super rich family hitting the bad times during the filming
The Paperboy - John Cusack is awesome. Deserves better than the 5.8/10 it is currently getting even with Nicole Kidman.
Video Game Highschool I expected this to be terribly lame but it was very funny. I mean it is still lame, but they capture gaming so well and there's plenty of laughs. It's really well done, and terribly lame.
Absolutely fucking unreal. Some of the best swordfighting sequences I've seen in a movie and doesn't go as overtly supernatural flying ninja as Chinese martial arts films. If you're into some bloody bad arsery, check this out for sure.
Zero Dark Thirty was amazing after the shit-fest that was The Hurt Locker. One of those movies you don't want to end. And the final scene Spoiler: OSAMA BIN LADEN DIES!!!111 is just amazing.
end of watch was entertaining and had some really excellent camera work in parts. the opening scene had me thinking I was in for something special.
it's let down by some pretty terrible dialoague and simply the most awfully stereotypical and one dimensional bad guys ever. pretty much every line they deliver is utterly cringe worthy. SPOILER Spoiler: the end scene in the alley where they appear through the smoke, say something ridiuclous and then light them up.. awful.
the two leads do a good job though and it's worth a watch for sure. disappointing though.
I haven't seen this but I should be watching it hopefully tomorrow, as the premise of this movie has potential to be hilarious.
Grabbers: When an island off the coast of Ireland is invaded by bloodsucking aliens, the heroes discover that getting drunk is the only way to survive.
Forrest Gump was on telly the other night. Found it hard to turn it off. really well written story and amazing everything. 10/10
Django Unchained. I did find the violence a bit much to stomach sometimes (especially when the retribution happens a little too later on imo) and would of been fantastic if Will Smith played Django as Tarantino originally desired. Foxx' soft spoken dialogue didnt cut the mustard imo. Classic example : 'i like the way you die' should of been an epic line spat venomously, not kinda smartass cocky. Interesting that the characters of Django and his wife were originally conceived to be the great great grandparents of Shaft. Shultz is amazing, as is Sam Jackson (didnt even recognise him at first). Film felt like it did drag a bit but would highly recommend it to anyone who a) likes tarantinoism b) needs a reality check regarding slavery in the south c) loves a good yarn told well

i thought the violence during the retribution was cartoonish. the only violence that made me uncomfortable was the mandingo fight and 'the dogs'. both of which contained very little graphic violence. it was the scenario that was truly disturbing.

when i said violence, i should of said both physical and verbal. Its designed to make you squirm. and it succeeds. And...... Spoiler: can i hang you upside down and heat my knife up? That was intense breh.
Ha, glad to know I wasn't the only one caught on a school night watching Shawshank. Zero Dark Thirty was great. Dredd was ok but not really what I was hoping for. I'd like a bit more of the lore to creep into it if they attempt another.
Bones Brigade Autobiography. i will watch this, bones brigade was my crew when i was skating. i watched all the bones brigade moofies that came out during my skating days, shits was epic. my first propper board was a tony hawk knock off.
Yeah mine was a OG Cab III. BB doco is def worth a watch if only for Rodney Mullen's rather eccentric manner. His story about his Dad's ultimatum occurred simultaneously as I got a bit of dust in my eye.
If you're interested in the 'death of vert' era I would also recommend Stoked: The rise and Fall of Gator. Tragic story of too much too soon and the way 'instant fame' followed by sudden collapse can lead to disastrous consequences.
In other news I watched Django Unchained the other day and it was a bit patchy for mine. Some bits were great but it felt soft and predictable in others.
Spoiler: The time jump with the KKK style guys was a weak and isolated grab at the sort of innovative way the old Tarantino played with temporality eg Pulp Fiction. Considering this technique isn't used elsewhere it feels really tacked on rather than a clever device. And the pawing horse? Seriously? Lame as fuck. Violence was ho hum; epic blood spray but no sustained tension or empathy generated. Broomehilda who? Who cares more like it. And Old Fritzy suddenly deciding to sacrifice his life after cleverly orchestrating previous situations was against type and frankly a bit of a letdown. The dinner scene was ok, the KKK hood discussion was a good bit of comic relief but it did feel to me a bit out of place. Sam Jackson was the one thing that was reminiscent of the classic Tarantino, but he got dispatched in a very unsatisfying way... left to explode? No. All in all some good scenes (killing the plowing farmer, Fritzy saving Django at the start, Leo was great and the dinner scene was well done, but overall a bit disappointing. Definitely more Jackie Brown than Reservoir Dogs. 5/10. Ok make it 6.
No it wasn't. Compared to the ear cutting scene in Reservoir Dogs (as far as tension and "making you squirm" it was...well nothing.
IMO when he made Django, Tarantino made a movie that felt like a lesser filmmaker around the time he was peaking i.e. Pulp Fiction, trying to copy his style and make a Tarantinoesque movie, but ending up with a diluted not-quite version.
Just watched Rurouni Kenshin Absolutely fucking unreal. Some of the best swordfighting sequences I've seen in a movie and doesn't go as overtly supernatural flying ninja as Chinese martial arts films. If you're into some bloody bad arsery, check this out for sure.
Just watched Skyfall. Talk about a boring movie with a ridiculous plot. The best thing about watching moofies at home is you can skip all the boring bits.
Forgot I also watched this yesterday before Skyfall. Extremely predictable but definitely werth watching. Spoiler: Amy Adams ends up with Justin Trousersnake
If you haven't watched dredd yet... definitely watch it. It doesn't pretend to be anything.. it's a movie about a badass shooting people... the action scenes are pure awesome.
i think it's probably a tie with the raid: redemption. also, they've just started filming the sequel to the raid, so we should be enjoying that later this year.
Shoulda put your dicks back on before watching imo.
+1 If you watch 90's action remakes for the script I feel bad for you son.
there's no difference between liking bad films 'ironically' and having terrible taste in movies. the point he was trying to make was that the film is dog shit. if you like dog shit, cool, but don't recommend it. the people who love eating dog shit because they are a shit eating machine know that they love to eat shit, so they preemptively eat shit and don't need recommendations.
Dredd was worse than the Expendables. And I mean that's saying something... I think the whole movie was shot in someone's garage
I wish you were shot in someone's garage!

Ruby Sparks
A novelist struggling with writer's block finds romance in a most unusual way: by creating a female character he thinks will love him, then willing her into existence.
If you like stuff like Little Miss Sunshine and Stranger Than Fiction you'll prolly get into this. The main character sorta sucks but everyone else was awesome.
Ruby Sparks was ok. The main characters were just too typical for the hispter scene. I didn't have any empathy for them. As with most hipsters I was just hoping one (or both) of them would die.
Pretty interesting doco made by Dave Grohl about the SoundCity recording studio. Loads of cool musicians/producers/engineers interviewed, and an excuse for Dave to record with them for an album i assume is coming out soon. The last guy came out of the blue to, pretty odd seeing what is essentially Nirvana playing with one of the most famous musicians in the world.
