Movie Review: Triangle

From IMDB:
When Jess sets sail on a yacht with a group of friends, she cannot shake the feeling that there is something wrong. Her suspicions are realized when the yacht hits a storm and the group is forced to board a passing ocean liner to get to safety, a ship Jess is convinced she's been on before. The ship appears deserted, the clock on board has stopped, but they are not alone... Someone is intent on hunting them down, one by one. And Jess unknowingly holds the key to end the terror.

Watched this the other night and I thought it was really well done. It's hard to talk about the plot/premise without giving away too much and spoiling the movie, but suffice to say if you like movies with a twist in the tail, this one delivers. Plus you get a fair amount of screen time featuring Melissa George running around in short denim shorts and a skimpy top. There's not a great deal of gore; there's a few shocks that function more as "aha" moments than white knuckle terror. However the overall feeling is one of unease and forboding, particularly as the film enters the second act. It definitely kept me guessing and as the film comes to it's conclusion there is a sense of claustrophobia and neck prickling that will stay with you for a while after the credits roll.

The only thing that "bothered" me while watching, was that the opening and closing scenes are quite obviously filmed in Australia (Brisbane actually) but from what I could make out, the action takes place off the coast of Florida. Given the (very) loose connection to The Bermuda Triangle (not really referenced in the film but implied by the title)I guess the decision to use a totally different location is excusable, as evidently the film was made by US money for a (primarily) US audience who mostly wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Still it's a minor criticism of an otherwise solid foray into mind fuckery.

***SPOILER ALERT BELOW**** PLEASE IGNORE NO YOU HANG UP'S POST AS IT GIVES AWAY MAJOR PLOT POINTS

great film. what id consider a classic. heres a good review

Movie is a couple of years old. Been discussed on here before in some random movie thread. Why wouldnt you mention the The Sisyphean Punishment in the OP as its kinda the major draw of the movie?

^ Why would you post such a major spoiler!!!

I enjoyed the movie. Reminded me a bit of Time Crimes (anyone who has also seen both would understand why).

I didn't realised it was filmed half in Brisbane until I recognised one of the car-parks from the waterfront at Manly/Wynnum:

No you hang up: please add spoiler tags or delete that quote as it ruins the movie for anyone who hasn't watched it. Way to fuck my thread.

Also, the review you linked to was poorly written IMO.

So it's another B-grade horror but they managed to somehow get Melissa George?

I remember 500 days of Summer. I don't quite remember 30 days of night.

Time Crimes I thought was put together really well, I reckon I'll have to take a look at Triangle.

I went to the video shop on the way back from school to grab this, but it appears to have closed down, didn't notice any signs or sales, weird (I walk past it four times a day). To the other shop after the school run.

I saw this movie ages ago and thought it was pretty shit. I'd say why but I pretty much forget everything that happened in it.

Yeah man it is obviously for the real deep thinkers this movie.

edit: just re-read the plot synopsis and I remember it now. It was some dumb time loop twist at the end that anyone could see coming from a mile away. The movie was also really boring.
