i don't understand what they look at when deciding what shows to renew. shows that had decent and steady ratings got axed and others that had shitty all over the place ratings got renewed.

Yeah I was hoping they would have a great cast for the next two seasons but alas we shall never know. Wonder what that means for the movie though, haven't heard peep about that for ages.
House hasn't necessarily been cancelled though, they made the decision to finish it earlier this year. Last ep is next week, it'll be sad to see it goes, I've watched the whole way through but at least they have the chance to wrap things up properly. I have my suspicions as to how they will end it, guess I'll find out next week.
One show that should get special mention on those lists is Arrested Development though I belive it's exclusive to Netflicks and the whole season is being released on the same day.

I used to find it amusing but after seeing the youtube videos of TBBT minus the laugh track and realising how pathetic sheldon really is and that no one in their right mind would ever talk to him let alone be his friend I think the show is pretty crap.
Seriously, to anyone who loves the show, watch it without the laugh track and then tell me the stuff he says is actually funny. Half the time I don't even know what the fuck the laugh track is laughing at when I catch the tail end of it when I go to watch whatever's on after it. They put the laughs in there for dumb crap like "oh hey i'm making lemonade".... how's that funny.

I find it funny Family Guy keeps getting renewed now. I remember when FOX originally canned it after Season 3 and there was a big campaign to bring it back, so they eventually did. Now it's shit, and they keep renewing it..what the hell.

I grabbed the first season of it ages ago. watched only half of it. It was such terrible dribble episodic plot lines with deus ex machinas and terrible acting, with terrible props.

This is the case for most shows of that ilk.
Its just something to unwind in front of at the end of the day. Thats why they make so many episodes. You're not required to think to the point that the audience even laughs for you.
I will say that its way more entertaining than 2 And A Half Men or How I Met Your Mother, shows i put in this same 'Pulp TV' category that also includes such greats as Mythbusters and American Wipeout. Shows in this category last for years. NCIS and the CSI franchise being great examples.

I am a fan of sitcoms and comedy shows, and most of them do it for me. There are people out there that don't like The Office, or don't like Seinfeld, or Friends. I definitely don't laugh as much as laugh tracks tell me to laugh, but it usually all comes together for a laugh every now and again.

In its favour it has one of the most creative intros of any show, but most of the plot and stories are uninteresting and unbelievable. The scientific experiments bit from the last ep looks promising, but I actually couldn't give a shit about most of the people they "save" (in the most convoluted and retarded ways) and unfortunately they spend 90% of an episode doing that.

The only shoes mentioned here I like are Family guy and Big Bang Theory. Supernatural was OK for the first season or so but went down hill with all the angels and shit. I just stoped watching after that crap, Would have been better if it had been more like X-Files.

Big Bang Theory is filmed in front of a live studio audience FYI. There is no laugh track. Those youtube vids taking out what they call the laugh track is taking away all the audience reaction so of course it sounds stupid.
They may add a little extra in editing or whatever but they don't deliberately delay their lines of anything for a laugh track to be added. It's audience reaction and having to wait.
yeah but a laugh track just means there is laughter on the show. im not saying it uses a laugh machine. but a laugh track still prompts you too laugh. and they have a huge flashing light that tell that studio audience when to laugh so its not far off being a machine.

Nah, they'll add a fucking LOT in editing. Seriously have you heard some of the shit they laugh at? They laugh when he says he's installing windows, or making coffee or opening a window. They laugh at shit that isn't a joke or funny in any way, it's just an every day activity.

Whatever it is I must have it because I don't find much of that shit funny. Yes there will be the odd moment that invokes a smile, sometimes a chuckle but never a full on laugh at dumb shit like this:

Shows filmed in front of a live audience still have a laugh track. At the very least the laughs recorded on set from the audience are recorded in separate microphones and are tweaked in editing so the volume is low when dialogue needs to be heard and louder when the actors pause for laughs. I'll bet they take it one step further and move the laughs around a bit to have them in the right spot.

It's more to do with his over the top character than the actual statement... jokes are all in the delivery.. not the actual punch line... I've seen many'a unfunny people ruin fantastic jokes.

As an aside; i do watch big bang, but i watch a lot of stuff while playing diablo 3. Can't watch anime: fansubs get you killed. I don't think there's anything really wrong with big bang theory. Well, i'd hardly single it out as the worst thing ever. But i only watch that after i finished watching most of the comedies from the 90's... big bang would be rated well below most of them and is rated far below other things i'm watching.
At the moment i'm going through and watching all of game of thrones, next is dexter. Call me a pirate, but a friend lent me his DVD's so i didn't have to buy it. I like the dexter box sets they're almost worth buying because they put enough effort into them to look cool.
whoop: The reason the audience laughs at stupid shit is because they're primed at the start and expectations (you expect funny, you get funny). Did you ever watch when lettermen was discussing the blackmailing/affair? The audience laughed then.
