Looks like one of those frustration "That is utter bullshit" story lines.
Post apocalyptic settings are always cool but the idea that the laws of physic's just up and stop kind of pisses me off without even seeing the show. It had better not be fucking aliens because the only way you could stop electricity and internal combustion from working is magic. So unless Harry Potter did it, I'm going to hate the shit out of this show.
The music, at least towards the end of the trailer sounded like a version of Touched by Vast.
Yeah, the music at the end was Touched. Which was amusing, cos I was listening to that album on my headphones at work and had just heard Touched, paused my music to watch this trailer and then the song is in the trailer! Strange but true.

Maybe it's an, um, ... strong... magnet... field... caused by satellite's and/or experiments with the centre of the earth, which...
Does electromagnetism imply that magnets can create a field where electricity is somehow... nah.
What deadlyf said. If you're going to do something that is such total bullshit that it's magic, please just fucking put a wizard in it. Although if it's done by anyone who worked on Lost presumably it will all turn out to be god at the end anyway

Well it is from J.J. Abrams so that is the likely answer.

Just look at Fringe J.J.Abrams hasn't exactly followed legit science in that show either so I doubt he would suddenly start using it here.
Yeah Fringe is about Fringe science, somewhat far-fetched yet slightly plausible science. This just looks like "oh hey, aliens or something", though it has piqued my interest.
I don't think I will bother seeing this. The plot flaws around not being able to ever generate electricity again are just too much to shit me. If they can light fires they can generate power. Seems to me they couldn't even figure out how to make steam engines...but their guns work.
Apparently the key to restoring power is a key, a usb key which he backed up before power was cut(in another snippet - youtube) so will prob be like lost, terra nova and whatever else for me, interesting for a couple of episodes and then meh.
Aren't modern cars powered by electrics, regardless of the combustion engine? So no electrics, no combustion engine action. Doesn't explain why the batteries would lose their charge immediately (maybe a global emp?), but eventually they'd all run out and die with no recharging options. Doesn't seem that retarded to me.
I knew I recognised that scene at 1:08m, its from "Ruin"
Yeh, I was wondering if it was from that but cbf looking it up. I assume they licensed it? Or maybe it was originally made for the TV show and it was used in that short.
What's the deal with everyone being perfectly clean... with PERFECT clothes. 15 years and not a rip tear or shred on anything, bs. Also, dudes with obvious pre end times glasses in perfect nick.
Looks interesting, but like others have said I reckon the premise is going to annoy me and I love to hate on JJ Abrams.
There's a working computer at the end, so the laws of physics including electromagnetism still seem to be fine.
Old mate mentions that everything electrical stopped working, even batteries. Unlikely, but whatever - make some more then, batteries aren't magic, they're late 18th-early 19th century technology.
