So I went to buy Ed Sheeran tickets today, only to find them sold out. Don't get me wrong, I kinda dodged a bullet there as I did not really want to go but my girlfriend did. It got me annoyed though at how often this sort of thing happens.
Is anybody else sick of touring companies never booking enough shows for Brisbane whenever a band/musician/comedian tours? It seems like every act that comes here sells out within minutes. I know Brisbane is only about a million people, but when you include all the people in the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich and the rest of SEQ who would make the journey to Brisbane for an international act, you have a potential audience of about 3 million people. Surely that's enough to justify more than one show?!

Nope, because I've never thought of an artist/comedian/whatever as being good enough that I'd ever want to go see them live.

No?
As a promoter would you prefer one sold out show or two or more undersold shows?
Edit: I had to look up this guy as I'd never heard of him.

It's difficult for these acts to find a venue in brisbane, even big theatrical shows that normally play for years in other places are only allowed a couple months here because the demand is so high. That's why you often wind up seeing stuff at shitty places like tivoli and zoo because there's nothing else available. Many shows don't even come here because they can't be fucked dealing with that.

Move to Tasmania and then you might have grounds to bitch. I've lost count of how many times I've flown north for concerts because they never bother to come to this frozen chunk of rock.

Had no idea who he was so i quickly double checked to see who he was.
When i still couldn't figure that out, i googled the trends.
PS: no real point just saying he's kind of new and i guess that's a fact. Trivia if you will.

Only person I'd ever of wanted to see live was George Carlin. Shame that will never happen.

Yes but it won't change because people in Brisbane don't go to shows so why put them on to have no one come.

That's a pretty good point, Thermite. What are the options?
- Entertainment Centre - Middle of fucking nowhere
- QPAC - a lot of competition for stage time
- Convention Centre - don't know if it's designed for concerts, and even then would be expensive to run and hard to book at short notice I imagine
- Zoo, Tivoli, Hi-fi, Powerhouse etc - Tiny venues that can't fit enough people
I figured there had to be more to it than just population, a lot of big acts sell out in minutes.

Only problem is it's surrounded by water so no matter how far you hike in any direction you're still stuck in Tassie.

Yes SEQ gets shafted, Eminem played in Melbourne and Sydney but no Brisbane, recently my GF bought tickets to go see Nicki Minaj with her friends and need to play to either Sydney or Melbourne as no Brisbane concert. All the mentioned venues sold out within minutes.

Eatons Hill hotel - Best venue around, shame it's in middle of no where.
Brisbane always gets shafted with tours and events. A band i've always wanted to see toured last month but only did melb/syd. This week there is an event hifi bar and also at tivolo on the same night. Promoters don't always think about the consequences of their actions, just look at AJ(soundwave).
You never book metal gigs on the same night as each other, you are just shooting yourself in the foot for missing out on more money.
Another example is Henry Rollins. 3-4nights sold out at the Powerhouse, yet he could do 1-2 nights at Q-pac and get more people in.
These days, i'm willing to travel intersate for one night just to see a band. I did this a few years ago for the band Blind Guardian. Flew down specifically to see them as they wouldn't come to brisbane. I also do the same for health and fitness expos, ie. Fit-X and Filex. The big name IFBB Pro's that attend these shows are never going to come to brisbane, so I have to head down there to meet them and that.
You learn to live with brisbane getting screwed over and over and over with events.

If you can swim, why would you be in Tasmania? :)
I kid... it's a great place to visit. Awesome fresh food and natural sights to see, but I can understand why a lot of the locals flock to Melbourne where there's better job prospects.

SEQ does tend to get shafted for entertainment.
We had the opposite problem a few years back - the Mrs wanted to go see Wicked and Sydney and Melbourne seasons were announced/underway with no mention anywhere of a Brisbane season so we bit the bullet and flew down for a night to see it.
Around 18 months later it's announced that it'll be showing at QPAC... :/
