Name the last few movies you saw and tell us what you thought of them in ONE SENTENCE and a out-of-ten rating

1. The Sitter - Jonah Hill. Very typical plotline about an inept babysitter but made hilarious by the characters, particularly my favourite, the lovable Blithe. 8/10

2. The Muppets. Usual muppet funnyness and children's story strung together by a weak plotline. 6/10

3. We bought a zoo - Matt Damon, Elle Fanning. An interesting (& true?) story about a family who lost their mother and the dad decides to buy a country property that turns out to be a zoo. 7/10

4. The Iron Lady - Meryl Streep. An insightful look at Margaret Thatcher's life through the eyes of her current dementia-affected state. 8/10

Got 4 on cheap tue:

In time - Lame.
The immortals - Shit compared to 300.
Drive - Slow for the first hour then some awesome violence but expected much more.
Rise of the planet of the apes - Enjoyed this, was expecting it to be bad but was pleasantly surprised.

Don't be afraid of the dark - pretty decent
The Thing (not the one with Kurt Russel) - not bad, not great, would probably watch again if bored
Real Steel - Bit boring without much action, it passed some time. Seemed more like a kids movie.

goonies (with jack) - nearly as awesome as I remember it

Watch Explorers with him too. If you can find it, get the version with the extra scenes included. I bought it on DVD and the version on there had them edited out and it suddenly goes from one scene to another and it makes no sense at all without the extra bits they took out (which were on the dvd but in "special features" as deleted scenes wtf?)

haha those first 2 I saw at the video store & took one look at the back of the dvd and went AVOID!, glad I did. I didn't think much to the rise of the planet of the guy spends the entire movie searching for an alzheimers cure apes.

1. The Avengers

Awesome, best Marvel film I've seen.
9/10.

2. Headhunters

Great film, subtitled but very good and well worth the watch, great twisting/thriller style film.
8/10.

3. The Grey

Thought this was a great film, turns out to be a lot more then expected based on the synopsis, and a bit poetically philosophical.
8/10.

4. The Muppets

I loved this, thought it was hilarious though a tad weak sometimes.
7/10.

5. The Thing (New remake)

Thought this was pretty average, the John Carpenter one is still one of my all time favourite films.
5/10.

6. Martha Marcy May Marlene

This was a good film, it's intelligent, psychological and deeply disturbing.
8/10.

7. Transformers: Dark side of the moon

Fucking shit, waste of time, luckily I saw it on a plane.
2/10.

2. Take Shelter: Weird Drama with top notch acting let down by crappy ending, still I'd give it 6/10

3. The Duellists (1977): I realized that I had seen just about all of Ridley Scott's films except his first one. Sword fighting period drama that is a mix of action and catharsis. 8/10.

Dont get to see as many movies as I would like but I saw this one recently.
Before The Devil Knows Your Dead.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0292963/

When two brothers organize the robbery of their parents' jewelry store the job goes horribly wrong, triggering a series of events that sends them, their father and one brother's wife hurtling towards a shattering climax

Phillip Seymour hoffman plays a brother in deep financial trouble and he manipulates his Loser brother into robbing their parents store.

Its filmed from the main characters view, so sometimes you see the same situation from a different characters viewpoint. You end up feeling pity for them as things go from bad to worse.
Its really about a Failed Family.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman is an excellent actor.

Battle Royale - Pretty good, watched it in response to Hunger Games coming out, I really liked it.
21 Jump St - Funny but doesn't have the charm of the series, plus it ends the story arc of the series which is sad.
American Reunion - Best comedy I've seen in a long time, and very good for American Pie fans.

Other than that I saw Phantom Menace in 3D which was a bad experience, and rewatched the Star Wars trilogy on blu-ray which was alright.

The Raid - Fucking loved it, looking forward to it hitting bluray as I must force my friends to watch it 8/10

The Killer Elite - A little slow moving given the title and Jason Statham in the lead role but it was alright 5/10

Warrior - Fantastic if you like the Rocky style underdog movie 8/10

Contraband - Not bad, felt like a Gone in 60 Seconds 'esk plot with smuggling goods via ship rather than stealing cars. Say hi to your mother for me. 6/10

Loosies - Stars trog look-a-like Peter Facinelli. He's a pick-pocket who's in debt to a local thief and he bumps into some hottie he had a one nite stand with months before. She's pregnant. Plus he has the cops after him as well. Wasn't too bad.

Incendies - A mother dies and leaves instructions in her will for her two children to go to the middle east and find their father and brother they've never meet. Excellent foreign film.

Monte Carlo - Starring everyone's favorite Disney sweetheart Selena Gomez. Three young women vacationing in Paris find themselves whisked away to Monte Carlo after one of the girls is mistaken for a British heiress. Wasn't too bad. Nice cute fun for a rainy weekend.

Man On A Ledge - As a police psychologist works to talk down an ex-con who is threatening to jump from a Manhattan hotel rooftop, the biggest diamond heist ever committed is in motion... Not a bad movie although so completely far fetched it's not funny. I like Sam Worthington. He seems like he would be an awesome guy to hang out with.

Men Behind The Sun - Whoah, this movie is really fucking messed up. Set back in WW2, the Japanese have set up some type of laboratory death camp just inside China. In this place Chinese and Russian prisoners are put thru hideously cruel experiments. Based on true events this movie is not for the faint hearted.

I havent seen Your Highness yet but I read most of the script was improvised and that's why it fell flat. I bit of improvisation isn't necessarily a bad thing but the majority of the script doesn't sound like a good idea.

The last movie I saw in the cinema was No Country For Old Men and it dominated in cinema number 5 at Southbank Cineplex - I walked out on Transformers as I started to feel teary, so that doesn't count.

Recently -

1. The Last of The Mohicans - Total domination movie.
2. Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen - Was baby sitting one day and saw a Megan Fox and Lindsay Lohan pre-illicits face domination movie come on - Hawt.
3. The Dark Knight - turned it off halfway through, though I didn't get teary, which is odd - Tim Burton and Jack Nicholson for lyfe yo.
4. Unstoppable - Denzhel movie about a runaway train - spent most of the movie trying to figure out why they didn't cut the power to the track to stop it and oggling Mr Washington - Hawt. The movie was quite good though.

:)

*Edit - what the hell is this filthy Vigilink vandalism?!

The Guard - pretty funny black comedy, I actually quite enjoyed it. I was also 2 bottles of wine intoxicated too so that might have had a part to play in it.

^^ yep really good movie, specially the second time when I caught more of the witty dialogue, particularly the odd bit of local humour which I wouldn't have understood if I hadn't recently lived down that way (30 minutes from galway) for the best part of a year

avengers assemble - pretty entertaining for the most part, but still what I reckon is just another whiz-bang special effects hollywood eye candy movie in essence, although it's at the top end of those type of movies and didn't leave me feeling like I just wasted my money

the cold light of day - shit, shit, shit do not spend money on seeing this even if you're a bruce willis fan, he dies in the first 20 minutes or so anyway and you're left with a completely second rate cast and even worse script/plot including a ridiculous role played by sigourney weaver

the godfather - good movie, watch this series every so often and always enjoy it

I watched Contact again, and yeah while there is a fuckload of God talk from the likes of Matthew Macconnahay and Rob Lowe , ultimately I don't think it's about remaining skeptical despite your experience as someone here claimed, seemed to be more about turning the tables of faith onto scientists (that don't normally have to deal with that), and the God stuff was used to really hammer that in.

Also watched Jury Duty, was pretty funny, but there are some questionable plot holes.

In chronological order..

Fortress 2 - Rentry. Watched it on Sci Fi channel on Foxtel yesterday. C grade followup movie to Fortress, set in space, had Christopher Lambert in it looking old and fat and bored. 1/10.

Charlie St Cloud - gf bought this on DVD and we watched it last weekend. I dont mind some chick flicks, but this was just dull. Had Zac Efron in it, he was OK in a serious role, but the plot was really just a mish mash of "I see ghosts" plots from movies in years gone by. 4/10.

2001: A Space Odyssey. Again on Foxtel, haven't seen it in a couple of years, just as good as I remember. I have always been a fan of Stanley Kubrick. Most people dont understand what its about and say BOOOORRRIING. Trying to explain it to the Mrs was almost as hard as explaining Donny Darko. 9/10.

Yeah, I tend to force myself to sit through movies, but I don't think I made it to much more than half way through this. Not even Natalie Portman could save it.

Oh, other movie I watched fairly recently: American Psycho. 8.5/10. That movie is fantastic, and now I understand all the in-jokes/memes :)

Watched I Saw The Devil last night after a recommendation above. Really enjoyed it but I didn't find it disturbing or gory. Although I've seen alot of bad stuff so it didn't really bother me. I was expecting the cop to catch the bad guy and then keep him locked up somewhere and continually torture him. Still worth watching though.

Possibly because not all trains are electric?

A couple of 'Film/Documentaries' I saw recently have changed my movie watching habits...

Senna - A doco about the F1 driver. Absolutely fantastic, even if you aren't a fan of F1 it's enthralling to gain some perspective about such a colourful character in the F1 world. (if you do go about watching this I thoroughly recommend watching the Top Gear piece about him too (embedded below, From Season 15 Episode 5 for those of you playing the 'home game')

And the other was 'TT3D: Closer to the Edge' - A doco about an 'independant' competitor to the Isle of Mann TT. A good insight into the competitors and the competition of the Isle of Mann Tourist Trophy.

Both have a motorsports base, but both are ultimately about being human, and wrestling with life and death.

Good point - I don't know enough about this type of thing, though the absence of smoke and overhead power lines and the view inside the cockpit/front carriage/whatever thingy led me to believe it was an American style electric track powered type of train. Kind of movie defeating if I'm correct - like Maximus not agreeing with Commadus when he requested his alliance, instead of agreeing with him and then decapitating him 10 minutes later while he slept thus avoiding mass destruction etc. :P

This is the beast in question:
