The Voice is a new talent show on Channel 9 and is judged by Seal, Joel Madden, Delta Goodrem and Keith Urban. Because of the quality of the judges I think, in my opinion it has the best singing talent yet seen on Australian TV.
Each singer comes on stage and the judges all have their chairs turned to face away, so they cannot see who they are hearing. If a judge turns around during the performance the singer gets to choose from each judge who turned around who will coach them during the course of the show.
The Voice runs for 90 minutes and airs at 7:30pm on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Since my movie taste is unknown to most here, I also will say I hate all these stupid singing & dancing shows. You hear one or two songs from the winner and then what, they vanish from the air waves never to be seen again. Just what the world needs, more one hit wonders singing the same regurgitated pop crap that everyone else is.
Totally agree about Delta making it all about her. I've only watched the Rachael fakesurname clip, but that's essentially what I saw there. Pun not intended.

It has a lot of differences to the average run of the mill pop voice reality show that will help it get better ratings. Plus all of the contestants can sing so you don't have to listen to the bad ones.
Yeah, I watched it tonight, and it was rather good. I think its just cos its not like they're weeding out crap singers from good singers, everyone on there is already a good singer and accomplished in some way, and the judges are actually people you can respect who are accomplished musicians in their own right, instead of washed up has-beens and random celebrities/radio presenters.
Lol, my GF watches this shit. She saw the US version and couldnt wait for the Aus version. Even though some of rev's movies recommendations have been shit, id prefer to watch that over singing hopefuls.

yeh I looked at this for about 30 seconds, and that douchebag said 'that was dope' about 17 times before I switched the tv input back to the media centre wondering why I even bothered to change it to regular tv
I just hate the way they pretend every performance is incredibly amazing, when really they're just slightly above average.
They've said they wanted to be different from the usual harsh judgements from other shows, but they've gone completely in the opposite direction and it just looks so phoney.

Delta Goodrem is so fake, of all the judges she overacts the most as opposed to Keith Urban who always looks really stoned and paranoid, hes prolly worried Seal will hit on Nicole. Got to watch Seal with the white women.
GF loves the show and i asked what she thought of Delta and had nothing bad to say which was the complete opposite to this thread and the today tonight opinion i saw last night where they asked 3 media commentators. Pretty lol they thought Delta was the worst judge on TV. Kyle they said was a tie for best simply because people wanna hear what he says and is entertaining.

I can't believe you think that. Aussie singers have been by far such better quality than the tripe that America produces. Only American Idol singer I liked is Adam Lambert. The rock songs he sang on the show blew my fucking brain.
Edit: Also I think Darren needs to win this more and I hope he does. You can see how desperate he is to win. He's at the age where it's either win this or nothing. Karise, is guaranteed to have a record deal (and hopefully) a successful career. Labels are going to be all over her like a rash.
Also she would be smoking hot if she lost some weight. It will be interesting to see how she looks in a few years time. I'm sure she will be able to afford a personal trainer, whether she wins or not.

Karise Eden's voice? Meh. Scratchy is what comes to mind. Sarah De Bono is more my style. Shame she just doesn't pick particularly good song choices.

One in Twenty Australians own copies of Savage Garden's albums - their Self-titled album went 13 times platinum, and Affirmation went 8 times platinum. The only other albums to have come close in recent years were Missy Higgins (9x), The Beatles (1 went 9x), and Michael Jacksons Thriller reached 13 times platinum when he died, BUT that includes earlier sales. Crowded House's Best Of and Adele went 13x and Susan Boyle went 9x. Norah Jones went 11x.
Not many get those kind of sales. LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem (Single) was certified 12x platinum not too long ago.
I haven't seen any certifications for The Voice yet, but I can tell you that Hallejulah has not been certified Gold. However it's a first week entry at number 2, so we can definitively say that 2nd place on the ARIA charts sold LESS than 35,000 copies in a single week.
Whistle has gone 2x platinum in 8 weeks and Call Me Maybe is 5x Platinum in 15 weeks. All said that's an average of 23,000 sales per week for Call Me Maybe, but you might recall I predicated it would go to #1 back when it was released in the last week of February; it took 7 weeks (I think?) before it got to #1 where it pretty much stayed there for most of the time.
I heard that they pre-record the shows, its not live and they clean up the vocal performances in mixdown.
That's not what my ears tell me at all, I can hear plenty of things that are very 'fixable' in the mix if you were to go there. It could quite possibly be a pre-record but it would mostly be just to have time up their sleeves for stage strikes & patching on the fly and to edit the best camera angles into the show.
I was quite suprised last night when Rachael (the blind girl) came out of her shell and rocked the vocals when she performed together with the other finalists. Shame that such a poor mentor/coach Delta Goodrem only made her sing boring soft pieces throughout the whole fucking show. Delta should have mixed it up for her. I always thought that Delta was a poor choice for a coach. Everytime she opens her mouth I just want to slap her, annoying.
edit: and what's up with Karise's mum being there? I thought Karise was an orphan or something living with foster parents. "Oh my daughter is famous now, I want back in her life". I don't know the circumstances so won't judge, oh I just did.
Darren and Keith duet last night, man they compliment each other so much, the harmony was amazing. I have a feeling they'll be friends for a long time and I'm sure Keith will make sure Darren will be successful.
Yeah, not taking anything away from her, she was good. By that point i dont think any of them were undeserving of winning, i just think darren is the most prepared for the crazyness and would have really hit the ground running. But i would assume they will all probably go on and do stuff anyway. People are already pushing for darren to be keith urbans support act when he tours next year.
Darren should have won. He will be more successful than karise. Keith and him seemed to get along well on the show, whether or not it was all for the cameras or not will be proven if Darren gets any big breaks with keiths help. Just caught a bit of "the voice radio show" and karise really comes off as a complete bogan.
So I was listening to an interview with that blind chick and she was going on about how Delta is her best friend now and how they are going to hang out all the time and stuff... I have some bad news for her.

Infact when he or was it his brother, was dating Sophie Monk he would spout this shit all the time... but besides for that Australia is pretty much there second home, they tour here pretty often and joel and benji are often in the country doing one thing or another.
I saw them late last year for JD promo concert where they sang weezers - blue album for example.
IMO they are abit of a joke band, they aren't rock they aren't punk and they are not quite pop. But they appeal to teens and they seemed to have had enough success over the years to keep going.

I don't watch the show because like all other singing/dancing/talent shows it's crap but didn't Delta also make one of them sing some Nirvana song which was an epic fail? I heard the guys on Nova (I think) going on about how shit her rendition of the song was, and then one of the guys went on to sing one of Delta's songs rather badly as revenge.
Every purchase of one of their songs on itunes counted as two votes, and you could go on facebook and vote there too, so I'd imagine a lot of people exercised those options rather than the old call up over the phone gig.
