Little short and doesn't seem to reach any intensity/height that I'm use to with my (limited) exposure to trance.
Oh yeah I wasn't going for the classic 8minute long build up. This is my first attempt at making anything from scratch so I wanted to make it short and sweet and then see how I go turning it into someting bigger later.
Go make another track and leave this one behind. When you're starting out quantity over quality imo, you learn a lot faster and get used to producing things in a decent time frame. Otherwise you'll end up spending months/years working on individual tracks and never getting anywhere.
i liked the build up, thinking something awesome was gonna happen but it was kinda at the same pace throughout the whole song.. it was ok
Same, about 30 seconds in I found myself wanting to fast forward. I think the build up to the silence is just a tiny bit too long and monotonous, needs a bass track or something imho. It sort of reminds me of that cocaine song.
Otherwise it'd probably make a decent sound track to a racing game on loop or menu music for something (being so short).
lacks depth (bass). melodically it decent. bur similar complaint about it not going anywhere. buildups and breakdowns are named that for a reason. added complexity with each iteration is pro forma, but usually you want it to go a bit heavier at least somewhere there.
I didn't mind it. Although I reckon around the 1 minute mark when it starts to go quiet, there should be some type of other noise thingy going on. Like a heavy but fading thumping noise that cuts out just before the next bit kicks in. If that makes sense.
fuck i hate dubstep. song starts off all good, nice tunes.. BANG, DERP DERP HERP GRRARGHSAGFRHG DERRRRRrrr
sounds like shit.
this is pretty much the only dubstep song ive found that sounds decent. Most dubstep sounds awesome until the signature dubstep tune pops on and ruins it.
Yeah nero is pretty much the only dubstep artist I'll listen to, he is actually creative with his wub wubs.
Whats the consensus on Drum N Bass here? For me its a hit and miss. i got the top 20 songs of whatever year pack and I reckon 90% were just boring, and the rest scaled from not bad to amazing.
The best DnB artist i've heard is Feint. I'd love to be able to make stuff like this:
it might not be dead but it's on the backburner, no one is getting excited by new trance tracks.
trance doesn't get any play time on pete tong's radio show every friday night which is one of the real markers to watch for brand new music. House has exploded especially in america and it's been building and changing for 10 years the culmination of what the swedish house mafia have become in the last 3 years is proof of this
A massive number of house/shit thats played on the radio, that has come out recently has ripped the beat from some 90's trance song - upped the tempo and put a dirtier bassline behind it.
haha pete tong, yeah he is big but he doesnt influence the flow of music by his radio station.
The amount of trance dj's that have their own shows that are just as big/if not bigger than tongs is ridiculous. Tiesto has had over 200, above and beyond, armin, even tydi has over 100 radio shows just to name a few

sorry but tong has been broadcasting for 20 years on the bbc radio 1, who do you think was involved with unearthing guys like armin or daft punk or chemical brothers?
pete is in full control of what he plays on his show
lolz pave. It is because judge jules (who has been around equally as long) has his own radio show that directly follows on from pets which focuses on trance and big room.
armins radio show is the most listened to radio show in the world (including shit kunts like that host off american idol).
Above and beyond won the essential mix of 2011 (hosted by pete tong>!>!>!)
but whatevers bro i bet shm were awesome at some skag in brisbane
along with hosting his own stage at ultra in miami armin also closed the event on the main stage. tiesto closed the other night.
(btw i dont hate house, i love it but you got no idea br0)
It was cool the other night a lot of heavier stuff and older style stuff was played in some of the main rooms.
This was the last set in the blue room John ocallaghan.
and for one of armins sets he did a classics mix
this was his big room set
Fav set of the night (when was peaking hardcore)
Anyway asot550 was an epic night. Best festival I have been to. Beat any night I've had in Ibiza
I have plenty of photos but they are all fairly low quality because we broke our camera the night before and the lens was all dirty. Nothing special unfortunately.
Yeah I had mates that went to the sydney one last year said it was epic. You struggle to find good trance in aus. Armin Only in melb was good but I got way drunk
I also went to den bosch last year and London this year. Above and Beyond group therapy in London this weekend - just down the road haha :P I'll probably move back to AUS in the future so I don't want to waste my limited opportunity in going to decent EDM events.
This would do it a bit of justice instead of my crap photos
permit yourself to look everywhere for inspiration, learn from everything you can - nothing sucks.. only provides data.
Don't fall into the trap of closing yourself off from other artists and other genres.
Art is everywhere if you can feel it.
(btw keep in mind that that 'zing' you feel fades with age.. max out every moment you can - though try not to hurt what's important to your work in the process. Art in the old 'pysycal sense' complicates things personally and at times emotionally as our days add up)
Australia gets to miss out on some awesome events and going to nightclub sucks balls these days. Going to see cosmic gate with emma hewitt on 13/4 at family. First time in a night club in over 2-3 years I think..
I was going to start a new thread but figured I'd leave this here.
I've done a fair reimagination of the original track I put up a few weeks back, which you can find in the OP.
Ausgamers is the only place outside my group of good friends that I try to get some quality feedback from the users since I know many of you are trance/house/electro fans.
I took much of the criticism here and have come back with this. Again its sort of like a sample of what could be a full 4-5minute trance track, and this would be the core of it. It now has a bassline and a fresh build up melody. The only thing Im still not happy about is the final bit it where it escalates a notch. I just found it a bit tinny but I left it there anyway. Hope you all like it.
