Soo, the sequel to Avatar The Last Airbender is out, and, everybody should get it.

Basically the first two episodes are the best thing I've ever seen, answers tons of questions which were left open about the world, and advances the plot many many years. It's also far more mature, almost none of the kiddy slapstick humour which sometimes made the first series awkward to watch for those over the age of ten (though that it was still so good despite that, speaks for what an amazing show it is).

i watched the first ep a week ago when it leaked online and watched it again + ep2 today. bloody loved it, but it's sad that aang is gone. loved that tease about zuko's mum.

also i like how korra is pretty much the opposite of aang. he was really spiritual and had trouble with the more aggressive styles of bending like earth. whereas, for korra she's very aggressive and finds it hard to be spiritual to air bend.

Yeah I was worried that Korra would be annoying, but she's fantastic. I think that Zuko's mom might actually have been covered in a Book 4 comic, but I haven't been brave enough to try it in comic form.

Watched these last night after seeing this thread. I am not into anime or cartoons but I loved the original series with Aang and this looks promising.
Just a shame I can't sit down and watch the whole series like I did with the last airbender.

Yeah I saw the first two seasons without having to wait each week, this is going to kill me.

it's set 70 years after the original series, so no it's not necessary to watch it beforehand.

I would definitely watch the first show, it has never failed to impress anybody I know who has watched it, even if they were not keen to start with. The first season is rough with the cutsie shit and bits of filler where they didn't seem to quite know what they wanted the show to be going yet, but the 2nd and 3rd seasons are amazing.

Just skip most of the King Bumi episode, around 4th or 5th of season 1, and you should be fine...

edit: Hell, this is relevant.

Just watched the first two eps, must say its great to see that they can continue a series on without screwing it up. This was every bit as good as the original, looking forward to watching.

Third ep resumes tomorrow...ish, it's hard to know exactly with international dates. But I'm sure that we'll all be tuning into nickelodeon at the right time ;) (actually, people I'm living with just bought a tv that came with free pay tv, so I think that's what you need to actually have nickelodeon, but I have no idea how to operate it).

The version I saw was terrible anyway, I'd hold out, but some swedes may be able to assist you.

Ep 3 Spoilers:
Spoiler:
I reckon that the amon guy is storing up other people's bending to become some sort of anti-avatar, or maybe that's just how the avatar got started, so that it will be an epic showdown for the ages

saw HD version of ep3 last night. loving it and it looks like it's going to be a lot darker story wise than the last airbender. the animation is phenomenal. i thought the animation was great in airbender, but it's even better with korra.

amon is definitely a bender. he's energy bending to remove people of their bending powers. i wonder how he learned it though. since only the avatar is supposed to be able to do it, and aang could only do it whilst in the avatar state.

Ohh, I was going to just say "this guy" and link a picture of the face stealer from the previous series (who said that he'd see the avatar again, and was one of the oldest) -

But then saw a youtube preview that reminded me that Aang once had a dream where Toph had had her face stolen, and others before he had even met her. I remember listening to a music preview for Korra awhile back, and the music guys said that the show got very dark about 6 episodes in, and given that the show has always been carried on pretty dark offscreen events told in flashbacks, I've been wondering if some of the old characters might have met horrible fates which will be explained sometime soon...

tl;dr - I reckon that the facestealer is involved, and Toph might have had her face stolen.

Did you end up reading the comic rav?

The seriousness and fast-plot is sort of overwhelming, but the bit at the ending was nice.

seen up to ep 4(when are they released?)
really enjoying it, alot of the cahrecters that are decendants of the previou series are really well done. you can see elements of Aaang in Meelo and katara in jinora/ikki

getting ep 4 now really loving how they jumped right into having the abilities. I never got past the first dozen eps of the ang series because it seemed too kiddie, but might go back and give it a chance if it gets better and not so drawn out.

The first series gets a lot better towards and after the end of the first season. I almost stopped watching it early on, but am so glad that I stuck with it.

yeah it's good that korra already knows how to water, earth and fire bend and only has to learn to air bend. however, i think she's going to have a lot of trouble with the spiritual side of being the avatar.

I can't help you there, but for some entirely ununrelated reason was afterwards struck with sudden reminiscence of Booty Bay from WoW. Place is full of pirates, and suddenly that reminds me of that new political party from Sweden.

Oh and unrelatedly

I do find it interesting that they have yet to introduce any of the avatar spiritual stuff. I don't think we've seen Korra meditate at all yet.....and certainly hasn't connected with any of the previous avatars.

Yeah I'm surprised that she hasn't gone into the avatar state at all, but Roku didn't appear in the first series for a few episodes, and then that wasn't really given context for even longer. (tbh, looking at it now, the first series kind of was going nowhere until about episode twelve, where they began to explain things)

This whole weekly waiting for episodes thing is horrible.

That was hella surprising, looks like they're still going to be a major part of the story. :D

Yeah maybe they might have random flashbacks showing the inbetween of the series or something.
Definitely hating on the week by week wait.

Have you seen the first series? It's absolutely fucking fantastic, 60 episodes of it too. It starts off with some atrociously kiddy episodes (skip "The Great Divide" and just brace yourself through The King of Omashu), but then finds its feet about halfway through season 1, and gets just as amazing, if not better than this.

While there's no on screen suicide/murders (don't know how the fuck they got away with that), it's actually a lot darker overall, masked with some pretty good humour.
