I quite liked the original and was surprised that i liked the parody so much - especially given the premise of 5 people playing one guitar
What other parodies have you seen you liked as much (or nearly as much) as the original?

Aren't they just performing the same song word-for-word? Not a parody
Clever performance though

IMO it's a pretty serious cover, with a factor of humour and innovation.

Yeah its an awesome video, not a parody, as has been already said, but just an awesome cover.
Now this is a parody video, not of anything in particular, but really of the whole genre.

If the song wasn't so overplayed, I would have liked it a bit more. Fantastic effort though and they've all got pretty good vocals as well.

I can't even see the humour. It's unorthodox but seems completely serious and definitely not taking the piss.

Well there is humour in five people playing one instrument. And there is certainly humour in the guy on the right's eyebrows :P

stupid way of saying it aside, she is pretty amazing - very few artists making shitloads of money can go that fast and be so clear.

it's a cool cover, and very talented group of people.
it is however, not recorded live (ie there were overdubs etc), which does kinda take the shine off it a little.

Since i feel in the mood for some internet debate....
I found 5 people playing 1 guitar to be humorous - therefore by definition it is a parody

The ad screen on one of the citycats had a news runner that said Russel Crowe wanted to get those 5 guys on 1 guitar to do the 30 odd foot of grunt back catalogue.

not recorded live (ie there were overdubs etc), which does kinda take the shine off it a little. Isn't the only thing impressive about it that it is supposedly live though? (imo)
If it's not live, and the parts were done separately, who cares?

Cool idea but It's not live. The vocals are auto tuned (rather noticeable) and the guitar seems to resonate in stereo, despite having a single open hole and there's no room noise.
It looks like they were going for "live". In that case, bit of a fail.
The Look At Me Now cover on the other hand is awesome.

I don't really have a problem with live recording and then touching up, which is what this is. Leads to a more polished, easier to listen to result. They haven't overdone the work on it, so I'm good with it.
Surprised pARODY hasn't been all up ITT saying, "You called?..."

It's not live though, which is what kinda bothers me (not that I have anything against recording, just not if it's supposed to be sold as live).
You can't auto tune vocals coming from the same audio source as a guitar, and also achieve no room noise and a perfect "studio" sound.
But then I'm a musician which probably ruins the illusion for me.

you can apply autotune in a live setting though.

Love the origional song (Kimbra is hot as well)
The cover in the OP is really well done. Shame the origional song has only sold something like 420,000 units (according to wiki). It deserves better sales than that.

Oh, something I forgot to ask - is the name of the band/artist just completely coincidence, or is it deliberate that 'Gotye' as an acronym for 'Game of the year edition'?
