such a CUNT of a year its going to be, might have to do the ole 'vote a couple of times' as just off-the-top of my head:
Art Vs Science - AIM Fire
Crystal Fighters - Follow
Architecture in Helsinki - Contact High
Justice - Civilization
Nero - Me and You
Nero - Promises
Friendly Fires - Hawaiian Air
Example - change the way you Kiss me
Gotye - Somebody that I Used to Know
Calvin Harris - Feel So Close
Lana Del Ray - Video Games
Loon Lake - Bad To Me
The Drums - No Money
Some obvious token clique ones there, though I'm not one to not vote for a song because it'll get in or it was too popular, I only vote because I fucken love it!!!
ah, the annual triple j hottest 100. A dozen songs you like, a dozen songs you've heard of, and the rest is just utter shit.
Such is the price to find great new music - you have to listen to songs to find new music and that means listening to many songs you might not love or identify with.
A lot of people don't like change hardware - you're probably just one of those kinds of people. Probably enough for you to enjoy your current collection without any change - maybe for the rest of your life. I personally find that pretty boring and think that 'discovering' new music is exciting.
I listen to JJJ for a couple hours everyday and don't know any of the shit you people are listing, except Gotye and Justice.
Though if you asked me what song I like, I would say it's the song where the black kid appears when the music is playing, so obviously they don't do a very good job of conveying who the artist and song name is on JJJ.
Sebastian - Embody
That's it. Don't even know if it's from this year. What a stupid name 'sebastian' how the fuck are you supposed to look that up or remember it.
I'd say a B105 kind of guy if hes struggling for just 12.
ps nats forgot about that shithop hoods song, its the tits.
also thermite, I dont know if you're stupid or deaf or maybe just baiting, though they religiously either pronounce the artist of back announce the artist of every track and the name of it, of every song played, and if the presenter some how forgets, they always backtrack and tell everyone what it was.
I think you may have JJJ mixed up with nova, last time I listened to them (like, a week or two ago perhaps?) they said "this is the new one from Architecture in Helsinki and it was a shorted version of Contact High which had came out about 10 months ago.
And finally (trying to be less of a cunt) you probably know a lot more of the songs than you think, you just don't remember the name of them, happens to me all the time.
i reckon that gotye will win. pretty common prediction. but that song was huge.
i gave jjj a miss this year. i do one year on, and one year off.
otherwise i find you can become jaded when persuaded by richard kingsmill constantly.
so, ill just get the nominations list and smash them over the next month, see what appeals to me from that.

Get defensive!
Whatever they're doing it doesn't work. They don't explain anything. Sometimes they might randomly say something but not explain what they are saying. For example, they always say "Like a version" but never explain what that means. Irritating. So I imagine they might randomly say "sebastian embody" but not explain it like "YOu just heard a song called Embody by the artist named Sebastian."
Except in reality they probably don't say anything and just hit the "friday fuckwit" button over and over.
yeah, +1 to the consistent and obvious announcements of what song is going to play/has played
somebody i used to know for number 1, i reckon, has been too big and the songs that get heaps of commercial play (*cough* sex on fire *cough*) often do real well.
however, i will have to go away and think about my own top 10 or whatever, too many songs come out that i love and then other stuff comes out and i forget about them, will have to go back through my 2011 played stuff!
nah, i don't really like much commercial radio. I'm the kind of guy who mashes the steering wheel control buttons through every preset i can find until i stumble upon a decent enough song, rinse and repeat. Yes my tastes do stretch to yesteryear in some instances, but why would you limit yourself to just today's music when the back catalogue of everything ever is at your disposal?
I don't limit myself at all. I listen to old stuff - but mostly from my generation, I don't really get onboard with 60's music and stuff like that. Too time constrained to delve that deep.
I also mash the hell out of my radio. I agree that triplej does play a lot of shit I don't want to hear but my radio still spends more time on triplej than any other station - and I wish I had a digital radio so I could also hear the Unearthed channel as well.
Hardware didn't like my tattoo, therefore he isn't with the times. I kid, I hate a lot of radio music, I listen to my dubstep, my mozart and my random.
Though if you asked me what song I like, I would say it's the song where the black kid appears when the music is playing, so obviously they don't do a very good job of conveying who the artist and song name is on JJJ. Sebastian - Embody

Yeah haha, my music tastes are frogered. I listen to 40's-80's and then some new stuff, like Black Keys or Foster the People. Oh and my Muse. Love my Muse.
Nice lists team. Sheesh, Endless Summer, another great track from the Jezabels. I wanted to vote for Mace Spray but apparently that was from end of 2010.
Surprised that Skrillex - Scary monsters is avail too - 100% certain that was end of 2010 as well. Smashed it this year though. Great track, will definitely vote for that.
I've been compiling music over the last few days. Has been a great way to figure out which albums I want to buy as well!
Does anyone know if Ed Sheeran's The A-Team single counts for this year?

which songs does qgl reckon have a chance at beating it (if any)? i would have thought foster the peoople - pumped up kicks would be a decent bet but perhaps their voting will be split across so many songs they won't have the numbers to mount a challenge for number 1?

Surprising that someone who has studied the hottest 100 didn't realise 'pumped up kicks' was in last year’s countdown. He sure will be in shock when number 2 gets played. Owl Eye's cover will be in this year’s countdown though.
Somebody That I Used to Know (feat. Kimbra) - Gotye
Lonely Boy - The Black Keys

I Love It feat. Sia - Hilltop Hoods
Feeding Line - Boy & Bear
Boys Like You (feat. Gossling) - 360

Tongue Tied - Grouplove
Call It What You Want - Foster the People
according to the vid in that abc link pinky provided, pumped up kicks was on the list.
i read somewhere that it was released in 2010, then checked the wiki and it contradicts itself
From July to September 2010, the group wrote new material that would appear on their debut album, and they chose Paul Epworth, Rich Costey, and Greg Kurstin to co-produce the record with Mark Foster.[9] In September, "Pumped Up Kicks" was released as the group's debut single.
Foster the People issued its first commercial release in January 2011, a self-titled EP featuring "Pumped Up Kicks", "Houdini", and "Helena Beat" that was intended to hold fans over until their first studio album, Torches, was completed.
Pumped Up Kicks" is a song by American indie pop band Foster the People. It was released as the group's debut single in September 2010, and was later included on their EP Foster the People and their debut album Torches.
so i went to their soundcloud page and it says :
Released by: StarTime Intl/Columbia Records
Release date: Jan 18, 2011
Guess JJJ are going off the e.p release date. im pretty sure it wasnt made available on itunes until 2011 as well.
So yeah, with that said, its in for a good shot at #2.
Contact High by Architecture in Helsinki should rate fairly high as well imo.
ah right, cheers lewd. yeah i didn't realise it was released before the EP, completely forgot it was in last years countdown.
Surprising that someone who has studied the hottest 100 didn't realise 'pumped up kicks' was in last year’s countdown.
haha, what?
'studied' the hottest 100? fucking professor frink over here. if that comment was directed at me, no i haven't studied the hottest 100. for some reason they wouldn't accept my dissertation on it!@#!

Chill Winston. i think he's referring to the guy in the video.
Im happy with the list so far. Nice mix of good music.
Somebody That I Used To Know ticks all the boxes when it comes to being a Hottest 100 frontrunner:
- A Triple J-approved artist whose past releases got plenty of airplay on the station,
- A crossover hit which went from being played on the J’s to being flogged all over commerical radio.
- Scored industry acclaim and numerous awards (ARIA gave it Single Of The Year, while Gotye and Kimbra won Best Male and Female artists respectively).
- Recieve a whole new audience of ‘mainstream’ fans – who pack out your shows just to hear your new hit single (Gotye sold out four shows at The Forum in October).
- Had numerous people covering it on YouTube or in their live shows – (just look at Canadian band Walk Off The Earth’s cover)
My fave part of BDO was when Girl Talk mixed Midnight City by M83 with Work It by Missy Elliot. Fucking genius.
My favourite part of today was when I supported myself over a recycling bin, tucked my penis between my legs and pissed backwards into the bin like a proper lady.
