Super 8 is the latest movie by JJ Abrams, exec produced by Steven Spielberg. Synopsis: In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.
Looks like a mix of Spielberg classics, Close Encounters, E.T, Goonies but it also reminds me of The Mist a little.
Yeh this one snuck up on me. Saw the JJ/Spielberg combo and put it on my list, but I'm not going to watch any previews so it's as novel an experience as possible.
yeh I think I mighta broke it so you couldn't edit it when I blew it away, but then I relented. I've edited it to make it forum suitable so i don't cry every time I look at it

Looks potentially interesting, wish I'd taken Billy's route and not watched the trailer however. Having seen all that I feel like I've been spoiled enough to not excessively enjoy the plot now.
I found it interesting how they snuck a trailer for this into portal 2, using the hl2 engine. I think that's the first time I've seen a movie trailer turned into a fps walkthrough as a promotion tool. I thought it was a kinda nifty idea actually...
Does anyone know what the creature or whatever it is, is? The trailer sorta makes it look like Goonies but with more action. Well not exactly like that, but it looks like all those cool movies that came out in the 80's.
No Sam L Jackson in this movie?
Seems like a perfect setup for a line like "ENOUGH! I have had it with this motherfuckin crate on this motherfuckin train"
Loved it. It's a nice departure from the Marvel/DC "story-verse" movies that the studios keep pumping out lately. It's really nice to get back-to-basics in terms of story. No super heroes, just a bunch of kids rallying against something bigger than themselves. Elle Fanning was a standout. Well worth it.
I liked pretty much all of this film except for the ending which i thought sucked - typical JJ Abrams - he is a master of building up a mystery but when it comes to the reveal it all falls down.
I liked spielbergs influence which was obvious but they needed to tighten up the ending. I agree Elle Fanning was pretty good in it as well
