You think japs are the only ones that make lightweight wheels? all aussie wheels ive looked at also have a 5 year structral warranty, not that they are going to go snapping on me as im driving down the road anyway.

If your jap shit breaks you think they are gonna wanna replace it with a new one for you?

Why wouldn't the Jap companies replace it? The Japanese know a shit load more about good business practice than just about any other country in the world.

They could very well make better ones, but why pay an extra $1000 when the aussie ones arent exactly going to give you troubles? think of value for money, not spending every dollar because you have it

Either grey, black, or shadow chrome at this stage :) shiny wheels just dont suit silver cars, not mine anyway.

Yeah - its likely that Jap wheels would look better on a Jap car... but there are companies in Aus that make really sex Jap-style wheels as well shit for aussie shitwagons. I read an article in Zoom about some Jap company that makes carbon fibre/kevlar wheels - the ultimate spoot-wheel!

Thats your opinion, personally I think they look better left for the gtr's

for $1500 you could find 17's where you 1) have a range to choose from 2) buy them new and 3) get a receipt and warranty with them. You obviously didnt look hard

19's are legal for a S15, and look and ride perfectly.

They're 19's. I know it wouldnt suit maxes or the bandwagons taste around here because the car cost more then $5000 and didnt come from japan, but I think it looks shit hot.

From what you can tell your wrong, in 3 ways.

200SX's come with 17's standard, the law isnt 2" bigger then factory.. thats bullshit. It depends on the car, eg my girlfriends astra turbo has 17's, but can only go to 18's by law, not 19, as it wasnt designed for it.

As I said before, 19's are legal on a s15. But dont listen to me, cause you read teh internet so you must be right.

Ok I might have gotten the rules mixed up, I was refering to this.

http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/LTASinfo.nsf/ReferenceLookup/Modification_Jan05v2.pdf/$file/Modification_Jan05v2.pdf

Which seems to indicate you can have any sized rim aslong as it doesnt change the overall diamiter of the tyre by more than -26mm or +15mm aslong as it conforms to the tyre and rim standards.

It says its a point of reference so you may want to find out more info before making any purchases, not sure who you could call up to find out the exact law, maybe roads and transport.

Its got nothing to do with being a taxi driver, its the fact that you are all shitkunts who think you're amazing behind the wheel on the track when in reality you're just tryhards. So you should worry more about how your car looks, cos its performance is really no good to you.

Also, just on your point, you think that driving for a profession wouldn't make me a better on-road driver (I say on road cos that seems to be how you've taken what I said)? If so, you're not the fairly intelligent person I thought you were, but merely a shit for brains net wannabe like everyone else says you are. Of course driving more makes you a better driver - hence why cab drivers drive like nuts all the time, yet have less accidents than everyone else. I came into the job thinking I'd hear about an accident like everyday almost, but in a year there's been only about 2 or 3. So when you graduate from being more than the equivalent of a soccer mum in an SUV, you can come on here and have a go.

anarot, you went off on a complete tangent to what the thread had tangented off to.

you said, we shouldn't care about performance as we aren't professional drivers, and that we should be more concerned with looks. i'm not going to say driving 10 hours a day doesn't make someone a better driver, but theres an obvious thing you are missing. as a professional driver you drive around suburbia, stopping, starting, weaving in/out of traffic, learning streets, locations etc etc.

BUT the car and your abilities are never put to their limits.

hence, i make this call: you'll learn more about vehicle control in 15 minutes on a race track driving to your limits and your cars limits, than you'll learn in 6 months on a road.

i never said i was the greatest driver. maxe clocked better times than me on trackday (i think), and our times on the sprint circuit were not even a second faster than this guy. and we weren't exactly slow either.

you're a dick to say we shouldn't bother. i personally go on the track to learn and have fun, you're fucking clueless if you think its got anything to do with anything else. but hey, you just posting on the internet and being the keyboard hero.

I like chrome on tricked out old cars, like your dad's mustang. I honestly don't think it looks good at all on modern metal. I much prefer racing-style rims over bling rims.

the chrome wheels on my gf's vs commodore (dark green/blue) looks insane. i dont like it on many other cars though

for a commodore it looks pretty uber, clear tailights, standard s-pack kit (tiny spoiler and rest is skirts, front, side and rear) and the chrome 17s just give it a tough non bogan look

Yeah I'm a fan of the S pac kits on VS's - like shibby said, very subtle, yet add really well to the base design.

nF, read my post again, you'll see that I differentiated between talking about on road and racetrack driving - its plainly typed in there. Of course road driving doesn't make you a better race driver, thats obvious, its called specificity!

BUT the car and your abilities are never put to their limits.

True enough I guess, except in accident avoidance situations, which happen plenty.

With the taxi thing spook, I'll give you thatyeah alot of taxi drivers are complete dickheads... but in Toowoomba here they seem to have surprisingly few accidents - surprising considering the absolutely attrocious level of drivers here. Also I think you'll find that when you compare the proportional amount of time on the road and number of accidents a cabbie has to the general population, you'll find the taxi driver ahead. I'm basing this on taxi drivers who take the job seriously, not the shitkunts who just do it cos they have no other life.

I never said you shouldn't bother racing on the track. I think its cool that you go track racing - I'd go along with you if I had a decent car. Hell I'd prolly go along in the Pullstart if it was manual... and its likely I'd be shit at it. I just get the feeling that one of the reason's you bag on chromies is that they are not a purposeful wheel, but made for looks. I'm just pointing out that you shouldn't be so obsessed with purpose, when, just like me on the road, you are highly unlikely to be able to take you car to its limits, or at least a limit at which the wheel choice would make a difference. Hence, why not have wheels that bling?

But why? Not even on a hot rod? Or do you not like rods?

I'll admit, I hate those new ones they're making that you see around on Hyundais etc, with the really wanky stupid designs - like ninja stars in some cases (like someone said above), and in other cases, far far worse. I can't really see how you wouldn't like the look of those wheels on that S15 though... they're just normal spoked wheels, but shiny!

i would love to take my car to the track

i just cant afford to with it being our only car

petal would bash me silly if i crashed it (highly likely)

plus wear and tear would take its toll

i did make some broad and sweeping generalisations before though

im sure spending a lot of tiem on the road does make you a better driver, just through experience alone!

Yeah I don't really wanna roll our only car either :P

In a year or 2 I'll prolly buy an old RX7 for a track car - strip it til its barely legal and wack in an extend port 13b and massif suspension. Cheap and killer track machine!

im sure spending a lot of tiem on the road does make you a better driver, just through experience alone!

Yeah - experience with accident avoidance especially. The drivers that actually take the taxi industry seriously get good because they attempt to drive really quickly and efficiently through traffic whilst remaining really smooth so as not to freak out the passengers. This is what I can say confidently that I'm good at - hence why they let me drive the silver service fairlanes instead of people who've been doing the job for 20 years.

anarot, i don't even know what point you are arguing for or against.

i never even made a comment about the wheels, and i'm 100% certain that nobody who made comments said anything about function.

i do not think taxi drivers are generally any better or worse than normal drivers, the fact that they drive so aggressively as you said is what makes them so notorious. but driving through traffic has nothing to do with anything, i don't care if you can avoid accidents. i'd suggest that the vast majority of accidents that can be avoided are ones where the driver themselves has made a dangerous action. where its someone else at fault, you're a passenger (mostly).

this also has nothing to do with what we were talking about, because driving on a road has nothing to do with the perfomance of a car. performance does when you take it on the track. which is what quite a few of us have done and will do again. hence we spend money and time getting that side sorted. also chrome is overstated. case closed, this thread sucks and you're a faggot.

its the fact that you are all shitkunts who think you're amazing behind the wheel on the track when in reality you're just tryhards. So you should worry more about how your car looks, cos its performance is really no good to you.

Haha maxe and nF summed up two sentences.

nF if your driving skills were anything like your head you'd be the ugliest driver ive ever seen.

I spose that old lawnmower honda was passing those 34 and 32 gtr's like maxe was? haha!

burt summed up, oddly enough, by himself:

you have no idea of peoples familys, I think its lame people like you try dissin others when there parents are willing to pay for something, you think their cash was given to them? you want money, go work for it, then you can decide how it should be spent and on who.

altho at the end you can add "you want to drive your car on a racetrack? go for it, then you can decide whether or not you post about it on your own website"

nF I don't think I even targeted my original post at you, so why make it so personal? I just don't understand people not liking chrome wheels, without any good reason. When I really think about it though, I'm guessing the real reason is that people don't like them just to be different and alternative, and not for any really good reason.

Overstated? Why change your wheels at all if you don't want to make a statement?

Why couldn't you come up with real reason, ie they attract the cops/are too hard to keep shiny. Overstated? You might as well say "they're too pretty for me".

If you saw some extremely hot chick, with a bunch of average chicks standing around her - would you want to shag the hot one, or think she's 'overstated'?

anarot = A_W?

Hahahaha - thats a pitiful effort. What happened to all you're witty remarks? That sounds like an astroboy response...

im not trying to be witty, your posting style is exactly the same

ie: you cant comprehend what you read, you make massive generalisations based on god knows what, you argue semantics constantly and you're generally completely incoherant

I thought the word was fairly self explanatory.

They are overstated in that they draw attention away from everything else. They become the focus because they are so shiny, loud or whatever you want to call it. That might work on a boxy pulsar or whatever, but it doesn't work on a car that can look good on its own. Wheels should atleast attempt to complement the rest of the car.

Overstated.

you want to have someone to bitch and moan about being a shit driver? next track day I'll bring my stock commodore with rooted suspension (apparently should have been replaced 100,000kms ago) and you can see how badly I drive. Then you can all laugh at and mock me some more. Infact, seeing a commo roll might be interesting.

I didn't feel it.

Here is my friend, overtaking a lot of people. He got put into the fastest group after a couple of sessions and no more mobile chicanes to deal with.
