I've seen some dodgy phone holders for cars but what I'd like is one that doesn't let go of the phone or fall off the dash when a bug farts in japan causing a high pressure system to move across the ocean and blow the phone off the holder like the last one I had.

Preferably wanting one from a retail store so I can go and actually look at the thing, plus I don't shop online. ever. not even ebay. ever.

Must have flames for street cred, carbon fibre for speed and a wing for down force, possibly a dragon or two and some ninjas.

All I want is a damn phone holder that doesn't suck. It doesn't need to provide any USB power because even with wifi, gps and 3g turned on my phone lasts for a couple of days (go samsung!) but if providing power is part of it then so be it. Screwing things to the dashboard IS an option as far as the phone holder goes. Also the ability to go landscape or portrait mode would be handy, but not required.

I'd also like some sort of blue tooth hands free gizmo. It can be part of the holder / car dock kit or it can be a separate little box, I don't really mind. My car has the bluetooth thing built into the headunit (well, it's a plugin module but still part of the radio) but that's not an option for this car because it's not mine so I don't want to go changing the radio.

What I don't want: Some big box that screws to the dash, clips to the visor or otherwise sticks out like a sore thumb. The more stealthy the better. (phone holder excepted)

Budget: Less than the cost of a head unit.

dude why not? I havent gone into a store in years to buy anything really other than clothes.. 95% of the time if i am in a shop i just scan the barcode of whatever it is i want with the amazon app and get it off there for way cheaper that same week if not the next day.

but ya know, saving money just isnt a cool thing for some people.

Whoop, I used / have used these. both work outstandingly :)

phone holder : http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Phones/Mobile-Phones/Other-Phone-Accessories/BR879106

Bluetooth device: http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Phones/Mobile-Phones/Bluetooth-Accessories/PLK100BTSP

that Bluetooth device is especially awesome, as it's also an FM transmitter, so you can have your music, and incoming calls coming through your car speakers.

But he can look at the design and pick a similar one from one of the 50 billion mobile phone accessory places in most malls.

Which actually raises the question of if he can do that already, look at them, evaluate them himself, in person, why is he at all asking online?

Fair point, I would presume to get a brand to look for because someone has found them reliable before.

The ones I've seen in stores are all those s*** "Type R" or "Type S" holders, or iPhone only cradles. Was hoping someone knew of a universal holder that wasn't a POS and that would hold any phone.

That window holder from officeworks wouldn't really be suitable because the window on this car is a f*****g mile away from your seating position so there's no way I'd be able to reach it to text people while I drive.

this. Because even in a retail store you can't usually test how well a phone holder will hold your phone while going over bumps, round corners, jumping over cows, etc.

I probably also should have mentioned it's for a galaxy s3, so the phone holder would have to be quite large.

I've tried those suction disc things you get with GPS units, they never stay stuck to any dashboard ever. I've actually JB Welded mine to the console in my own car, but over time the plastic has been scratched so much that the GPS just won't stay stuck to it anymore. Not exactly sure how I plan on removing it either :p

well, the ram stuff (as in the link i posted) is pretty top notch, we have an older one in the SES troopie, which hasn't moved, or fallen off in 5 years, and tbh, with the weight of s*** that is attached to it (phone, notepad, and often my hat on rough road that require no hat when driving) and really, i doubt that any normal persons car would vibrate as much as this does

as a side, the stuff they do for motorbikes is great, self leveling coffee cup holders!!!!
