hey guys,
im looking for a decent headset for pc thats not gonna break the budget. my budget is $100. id really prefer it to be a usb headset as iv had alot of trouble with headphones with the mic and headpphones jack playing up.
iv checked out razer and logitech and they seem to be a bit pricey. any advice would be great.
cheers

G35. $107 from Umart. You won't regret it.
I'm sure you can find them for a similar price, depending on where you are.

G35
This. I have the G930s which are basically the wireless variety of these and they're awesome.

I probably had a bad batch but my microphone is now loose and won't stay up, it will turn off randomly and sometimes won't even turn on at all. I'm actually considering getting the GW2 Steelseries headset, apparently their headsets are extremely sturdy and great sound.

-1 for G930
Not a very comfortable headset and the mic quality is poor.
I can't make any actual recommendations other than research a bit more, my set up is a bit pricey. All I can say is I was happier with my $50 Logitech headset than I was with the (on special) $115 G930.

Whoa deeper they look mad. Might go for them this time round. have you tried to get it replaced? have they been out a year yet? Yeah I'm taking them into Umart tomorrow when I get paid so I can grab a new set while I wait. Logitech has been giving me a bad run in the past few months. My mouse broke, then my 5.1 surround sound blew and now my headset has gone :S

-1 for G930/G35's, had them for about 8 months or something, bloody uncomfortable after a while, have had them replaced once already within a 2 month period because the wireless battery wouldn't hold charge, good wireless range though.

Spend your money on headphones and get a POS mic I reckon.

I've owned a G35 pair for a few years, and I never use them. I prefer to use the speakers built in to the monitor. The problem is that once you're playing a game, you are not allowed to choose to wear headphones at that point. The only way to use the G35 headphones, is quit the game, shut down your computer, take it apart, dance the fucking macarena, put your computer back together, format your hard drive, hold your breath for 2 minutes, then plug the headphones in, then reinstall windows, and then play your game with headphones. Easy!
Note, at this point if you want to use your speakers again for some reason, you'll probably need to send your computer back to Taiwan.

I have an el cheapo $20 logitech desk mic thing and it's so sensitive when I talk that people in vent can hear the birds outside. So get one of them and spend the rest on just headphones without any of the gimmicks like fpot said

lol doing it wrong again thermite I change between 4 different sets of headphones fairly often and at most all I need to do is tell the active piece of software to use a different device, or tell windows to change the default device, and this is on the fly. 3 of the headphones are usb and the other is 1/8" jack into the soundcard
as for logitech G35... too heavy even after you get used to them, crap for music, and like a lot of logitech headphones, the black coating on the squishy pads starts peeling off after a few months, continually leaving little bits of black shit all over your ears and shoulders. changed to razer

I have a G35 which I don't need anymore as I no longer game. I've probably used them for about 50 hours. Make a reasonable offer and they're yours - PM me.

if you have a webcam you dont need a headset, just use the mic from that.

^ yeh the guy using his webcam mic is the guy you mute cos he either doesn't use a ptt button, or even when he does, you still hear every other fucking thing going on in his neighbourhood and it drowns out all the other communication

ive been using my §30 logitech c270 webcam mic for a long time and i have never had anyone whinge about background noise, maybe because of the logitech software but yeah.. i play with a friend who uses some new usb plantronics headset and i hear his background noise all the time.. im pretty sure it comes down to software.

+1 for getting some real headphones rather than some pissy gaming headset. Buy some Audio Technicas or something and a cheap mic. Same price, better sound.

I've got a pair of Senny HD 201's which were $36... a pair of Senny 418s, which were roughly $80. and a plantronics game-con 780 headset (roughly $100). I actually prefer the the gaming headset over both pairs of headphones, plus having the usb connection is always a bonus.

USB connection is only a bonus if the alternative is onboard audio.

LOLOLOLOL good one!!@11
I never had a problem with the quality of onboard audio, until I listened to a good card with a proper headphone amp, not to mention features like Dolby Headphones for virtualised surround sound that actually works, rather than bullshit "5.1" headsets.

This aint no bullshit: Psyko 5.1. Only headset ive ever found that full cups my ears and is comfortable for hours. Currently had mine on the last ~8hrs with only a few short food/drink breaks without problems. $299. Fuck yeah.

I've got a gaming headset that I use mostly for WoW cos its convinient and makes more sense and desktop mics are just too awkward in my experience. I've been through lapel mics and desktop mics and even proper expensive professional mics on stands, and in the end a good headset with a good mic is just the best solution I've found.
I've got a pair of G35's, and they weren't bad, but I don't really use them anymore cos I found they have a fair bit of clamping force, and wearing them for prolonged periods of time wasn't particularly comfortable.
Wouldn't ever claim the headphones are better than actual dedicated headphones though, I've also got a pair of Audio Technica AD900's that I use for everything else and they're far superior as a set of headphones.
Edit: seems I already posted in this thread, didn't realise it was a necro

I just use a pair of Turtle Beach headsets that I use on my xbox... No issues with it... Mind you I dont use team speak and just skype my mates when playing BF3... I wouldn't spend more than $100 on a headset tho....
