OwnFone - a phone for kids, old peoples, and *losing
4215 posts

Interesting.. a basically disposable small printable phone that you design yourself and pre-configure a favourites list to be printed on it. It's useless to anyone who steals it because the contacts/photos are printed on the phone (they may like to prank call you).

Though only available/work in UK atm, wonder if they will expand.

They recommend diverting calls to it and using it where you don't want to risk your main phone. Or get them made up for kids with buttons for parents, home, etc and have it on a lanyard.

Small and light - OwnFone is credit card sized and only weighs 40g
Personalised - You design your OwnFone and we build it for you
Ready to use - OwnFone is ready‐to‐use straight out of the box*** (OwnFone is only programmed to work in the UK and Northern Ireland.)
Easy to use - To make a call just press a name or photo button
Safe and secure - OwnFone only calls the people you choose
Long battery life (shelf, not operation) - OwnFone will last up to a year

They should be careful about the rounded corners on the phone design - apple might sue them.

Pretty sweet idea if you plan on going out and getting smashed.

S*** audio in that vid though. They could have at least used little neck mics if that was their main vid to promote the product.

Also, *losing.

man for about $10 a month, and an hours talk time (rounded for ease) it would cover must peoples needs, but what a great backup phone and kids,

hell even a travel phone, something to take to the beach , add a taxi service, a couple of pizza joints and kiss good bye to drunk texting!

the solution is always going to be to give the child/luddite the old nokia 3310 you have sitting in the bottom of a drawer
