Tablet:
I'm looking for a tablet. largely for in front of the couch interweb browsing while the missus uses my PC, but it would be good as a business tool to carry around, so i'm justifying spending a bit of coin on it.

Not really interested in Apple products as I've got no other apple products, but if the feature set is that much better than I'd consider it.

I was thinking i'd stick with the Samsung range seeings though I've got an Galaxy S3, S2 and S and I've been pretty happy with them so far. (screen quality with S3 is so good)

Computer chair:
Not really sure what (or even where) to look for a quality computer chair without getting ripped off. I would like good quality without destroying my savings.

I've set aside $200, but if i can get one for $2k with a life time comfort warranty and back and ball scratching attachments i'd consider it. Currently using a $30 target chair and i don't think my back can take it anymore.

Tablet:
I went down the road of a 'new' iPad. It is what it is, I have no interest in 'rooting' electronic devices and as a tablet, it provides what I'm after.
I can appreciate your point on 'no other apple products' tho.

Chair:
Aeron

Convinced my father to buy one of these for his home/office as he's starting to spend more and more time in front of his computer at home.
Quite exxy @ $900 on a GOOD day (routinely sold @ closer to $1500) Solid warranty and really comfortable chairs, I also convinced my boss at work to buy a few of em too.

If I wasn't totally happy with my computer chair currently, I'd be putting some pennies aside to pick up one of these. (Especially considering the number of hours I spend sitting in front of this machine.)

Guys at work vary from 5'6" and about 60 kg's to 6' and ~130kg's and the medium frame chair accomodates all of us pretty well.

I got an Aeron size C (largest) and it's good but I now wish I'd got a B. I'm in the 'grey area' on their sizing chart..

Aeron has like a 12 year warranty or something.

For the tablet, I recommend the Asus Transformer Prime. It is a really great piece of hardware, and offers astounding speeds and obviously the flexibility of a tablet. It runs the latest Ice Cream Sandwich OS for Android, and being based on Android offers a heap of customisation.

I purchased mine last year and have enjoyed it immensely for the price tag. I actually got rid of my laptop in favour as it is smaller but still offers the same usefulness. I bought mine at JB HiFi for I think $740, it is the 32GB model but there is a 64GB model. Has HDMI, USB, SD and Micro SD plus a detachable keyboard that offers an extra 8 hours battery life on top of the 8 hours the tablet itself has.

You want a good chair go to Empire Furniture.
Don't bother with the aeron, there is only one place in Brisbane that sells them, and they are open for like 15 minutes a day, but not on the days when you will go there.

My Aeron I think is 10 years old this year and still going strong. I sit in it all day every day.

In the meantime I've gone through 2-3 lesser s***** chairs at home, where I only use them a couple hours a day by comparison.

Get an Aeron.

Are they really that good? it looks pretty uncomfortable? I'm a fan of the soft and cushy chairs. if the longevity is there, its hard to pass up. Is there any option for a leather based one?

For the tablet, I recommend the Asus Transformer Prime.

that's what i was sort of leaning towards. I was looking at this one.

although for a lot extra this one is looking pretty good too.

here is the full range captain lateral: http://www.hermanmiller.com.au/Products/Seating

Soft and cushy usually also means it accumulates crumbs and sweat and poo juice, leather is hot and sticky.

Then again, you may prefer to wear pants, but you would be foolish.

doesn't ASUS do a 3/4g model?

I'd get something that's 3g at least. very handy when travelling. yeah sure you can hotspot but drains your phone battery and you have to f*** around turning on and off.

neither did i but that didn't influence my decision. they are good. but so is the Galaxy. go play with both and decide. Android apps are catching up but much more in Apples store atm.

Yeah the cheaper ones are good, but I don't believe they have the clearer screen etc. I'm pretty sure mine is the TF700 though it might be a model below.

TF700 only came out a month odd as well so you'll have the latest. I highly recommend ASUS as well. they tend to keep things close to stock and they're quicker with updates. The keyboards are fantastic. I've currently got moto xoom but my next tablet will most likely be an asus.

for the chair, it might be worth trying empire, my chair is well over 15yo and it still does the trick I mainly like it for the high back (higher than most high back)

Chair: Aeron or Mirra. Or something by Steelcase.

Good chairs are worth the $1,000+ you pay for them, especially if your ass will be parked on it most of the time.

First I'd suggest you do the math on whether or not you're willing to jump in at $1-1.5k for a chair, if yes, take the time to go and at least sit in one. (find some alternatives too, $1500 isn't an insignificant amount of money).

I rate em.

In my case, I certainly don't want any giganto-leatherback retardery, and I REALLY wouldn't if I lived in the tropics (or where humidity was a factor).

One 'general consideration' I'd like to point out, is that there isn't tonnes of clearance between the ground and the bottom of the gas cylinder, so if you've got really thick/deep carpet, the chair won't move particularly freely on it after you've been sitting on the chair for a while (might need one of those plastic mats) other than that, short pile carpets, or hard floors, it's all win.

I like the 7" form factor of my cheap Chinese tablet, I wouldn't recommend the tablet itself as it is a pain in the ass to update and switches off the wifi in sleep mode no matter what settings I apply.

The Nexus might be worth a look though, same 7" form factor, latest Android OS (Jelly Bean) and made by Asus.

You'd have the TF200, or Transformer Prime.

The main difference between the TF200 and the cheaper TF300 is that one is made out of machined aluminum and the other, plastic. Other than that they are basically the same, the 300 was more or less the interim replacement for the 200 which had wifi issues on account of it's casing.

The 700 on the other hand is the proper upgrade to the 200, with faster CPU and better screen and a plastic strip for the wifi.

Ended up getting the 700. full HD screen (to go with my SGS3 :D), faster CPU, 3g support(apparently? i'll need to check), 64Gig SSD, 12core GPU.

Nice little unit so far.

My Nexus 7 is an awesome little tablet, but it's still a budget tablet and is missing things I'd like such as MHL/HDMI.

Seriously though, as Clubby implied, wait the couple of months for the Surface to be released, regardless of whether you're interested in a Windows 8 tablet or not. There are some pretty big rumours around that it will be priced very aggressively, could well force Android tablet makers to drop prices significantly.

Edit: hmm, I see I was a little late to the party... oops

For Tablet i'd say transformer http://www.computeralliance.com.au/parts.aspx?qryPart=13859

That one is the same specs as the prime, a tiny bit cheaper because it's plastic over metal, but has better wifi and gps because it's plastic not metal.

I've talked about why i like it a lot so im sounding fanboyish, but despite doing IT administration, i use it as my primary laptop. I don't have another laptop. I can take it work at a clients all day and not need power. If i only casually use it I don't even need to charge it for days.

I actually have the Transformer infinity; just has a higher resolution screen (good for RDP). But not as good price/performance.

If you don't want to ever use the tablet dock, then instead get the nexus 7. It's pretty much all the hardware you'd get in the transformer prime/infinity etc, but without the money.

edit: Just as an FYI; the nexus 7 won't drop prices much, i know there's profit margin on the 7's in australia but overseas they were made to just flood the market. I don't even think there's much profit margins on the 7 in australia.
