Samsung's incredible transparent Smart Screen is basically a one-way window that can display things such as the weather, emails, and even faux window blinds.
Looks pretty awesome!
Having said that, if the cost is around the same as for a similarly sized LED/LCD TV - would you buy one for this purpose? I wouldn't.
Here is a similar concept from Toyota called 'Window to the World' which is also interesting.
awesome, I would buy one if I had a mirror above the kitchen bench (and I could afford it) cause it would be cool to use while cooking etc. Elsewhere - why would you stand in front of your window touching it when you sit in a chair with an ipad or watch a TV? And have fun with all the greasy fingermarks all over the windows!
But anyway my kitchen already has a better view than that would give anyway. Tis a hard life.
Not in the demo because it was inside a booth at CES. The real life version is actually transparent though.
arent the little buidlings behind it in some kind of tank with the screen on one side? She says at one point that she can see through to the little town outside.
can we hurry up and have HUDs like this on car windscreens?
I want my current speed and GPS navigation displayed at eye level, not having to keep taking my eyes off the road.
problem is it is a mirror. needs to be any piece of glass windowing in the house. that way your not confined to standing infront of a mirror to read the news
Yeah, I had similar thoughts. Its only a proof of concept though I guess.
For this to be effective, you would need multiple sensors working together and multiple visual output methods based on where in the house you are. Ie, a window that becomes a monitor ect. Its got scope.
I want to replace all the windows in my place with this. And mirrors. How awesome would it be; every surface is just a gateway to your PC.
I dunno, if I'm away from my PC, it's usually cause I don't want to use it. I can't think of too many reasons why I would want my windows to also be a computer screen.
edit: the screen isn't 100% clear like glass, looks a bit hazy. but probably with better tech it will be improved.
