well I just tried another cable and same problem so I dusted off my oldass console from 2006 and everything that doesn't work on my new one, works on it. Looks like the ethernet port on my new console is fucked. Well done microsoft you bunch of waffles.

well it's funny you should ask that because I JUST checked and what would you know? For some reason my new xbox isn't talking to my router, telling it to forward stuff but my OLD xbox does this quite happily. They both have the same dashboard version. So fuck it, I put the new xbox in the DMZ and it hasn't disconnected since then, but it still can't find the forza servers so whether they are actually down, or there's bigger issues I don't know. It used to work, so whether it's just something that's gone wrong on this particular box with the latest dashboard or what who knows. Maybe I'll see if there's a way to factory reset it or something. I'd try wireless but it's dongs and I'm not typing in a 40 character random WPA2 key into the xbox multiple times (seriously, how hard is it to put a "remember this longass number" checkbox).

and since you asked, the router has upnp support which works fine, I'm always finding stuff listed in there forwarded to my computers.
