These sound awesome and at $369 even better.
I was using Logitech 5.1 and it was almost like going from AM radio to FM.
You can get a special Bass Box ($300) to go with these speakers but I used the Logitech 5.1 bass box through a headphone jack and run them together.
Could get a cheapy from JBs for around 150
tbh with that price range, wouldn't it be better, cooler, more retro looking , to go and find an older stereo amp, and grabbing some suitable speakers,
a trip to cashies, or vinnies,
fuck I might do that now, (old amp = nice warm sound, and a bonus monitor stand!)
I really doubt those logitechs would be a true 500w (I haven't checked links etc so I could be wrong). Most manufacturers of shittish gear use every method they can to sprout high wattage numbers. So peeps think 'wow 500w, it must be good!' Wrong.
I'd take a lower wattage quality brand (quality brands tend to be be far more truthful about wattages) over some hyped up mega watt junk.
I'm by no means saying that they're the perfect setup.
Specifically, for their size, I quite like them, however I'd have to agree with anyone who call the sub they come with 'lazy'...
I've got a better Home theatre setup, but for ~$300 you can't beat a set of Logitech Z-5500's. (IMO)
edit:
Logitech's new gear (Z-906) sound much the same as the Z-5500's although you get quite a much better choice of inputs.
One of my local Dick Smith Electronic's has a set on display.
They are fine for games/movies but shit for music. Of course they aren't sold as being awesome for music, I've never seen a 5.1 PC system thought of as a good music set.
I've been searching for a decent set of 2.1's or stereo but there doesn't seem to be much in quality at the usual suspects for PC retailers. All the reviews I've seen about the edifiers seem to focus on the bass which, while important I'm far more interested in good mid range as that seems harder for speaker sets to produce.
That link that mission posted seems to have a few good looking self powered stereo speakers but I'd have no idea what they sounded like until I bought them.
I have a set of logitech z623's which I bought after my lovely logitech 2300's succumbed to my neglect (and they dont make them anymore >: ). Both sets are amazing on my Creative Xfi sound card and I couldn't recommend them enough for music, movies and gaming. Sub <$200 = great value.
I love my z5500's but they're not as good as my Altec Lansing 2.1 system for propper sound. Just the z5500's made for a great cheap 360/TV speakers and house party speakers due to their extremely low price and very loud capabilities. The remote was kind of convenient too.
But if you're doing something quality over quality (i guess in this case quantity would be volume) then i'd steer you away from the z5500's.
