Hey all, as the title states, I'm interested in buying a tablet. Now, I don't really want a iPad, as they're what I see as the sheeple brand, and yes, hate me for it, but I'd rather a Android tablet. I currently have a laptop and desktop, and the only reason I haven't been interested before is due to just that, owning a laptop. But, I'm trying to sell my laptop, as it's a bulky and unnecessary item, and I can see a tablet proving more worth to me as well.

Simple word processing, internet browsing and app gaming/development is my interest, price range between $200-$500. Obviously Wi-Fi and 3G if possible, though Wi-Fi is fine.

Thanks all!

that's all the ipad has going for it though, they could have sold an iTurd and people would buy it even if it was a lesser turd.

I don't hate Apple, I think it's an excellent brand, and definitely recommend it to anyone who has no specific needs, or only needs it due to it being commercialised as "needed by everyone". I'm wanting a Android tablet due to the OS being of better needs for what I want. And cause they're usually cheaper.

Serious question. You want to do a bit of word processing and development and you say you prefer a tablet over a laptop? I don't get that at all.

I've got a Galaxy Tab - bought one when the price dropped a few weeks ago to $299. Love it, great for just sitting on the couch/lying in bed. I take it to work too so I can look at any pages our network blocks.

Development of Apps for Android. More or less now a days, my laptop is used to play games a few years old, and websites. If it has the capability to look at powerpoints while in lectures, bonus.

Why not, being unique holds more value when picking up.

from what i've been reading recently, and i thing mentioned in another thread, get something that has Honeycomb (Android 3.0)
the ASUS Iconia Tab A500 and Samsung have redone their Galaxy Tab 10.1 calling t it a 10.1v

either way if you want Android word is make sure it's 3.0 for a Tablet

Yeah I'm hearing HoneyComb works damn well on the tablets, would love to get one with that.

Also, that Eee Pad looks wicked.

Hmmm, on further look, seems to be around the $599-$700, depending on price. Very interested though, especially with the QWERTY dock, and glistening reviews.

Home brand is so underground. I just don't see the use in getting an iPad when something does it better.

Faster, more convenient apps, nicer interface, open source, not locked into features etc. With the iPad, if you want to change something, you have to jailbreak it. Which can void the warranty or support can turn around and not help. With Android, its pretty much accepted due to the open nature. That and I want to develop games on Android, thus having a tablet and smartphone makes sense.

Faster, more convenient apps

Current android tablets are no faster than the iPad2. Processor speed is similar and the iPad2 has faster graphics.

I don't know what "more convenient" is meant to mean, but there's only around 100 apps even designed for android tablets where iPad has 90,000 or something? I can see why people might not want one for the other 2 points but it does what it does very well, very fast and with a massive selection of apps.

All of the reviews I've read have said that those estimated hours are pretty spot on.

I've got one on order, but stock levels in the US are s***, so I still haven't got it. Keen to get my hands on it.

+1 for ASUS Tranformer... although I am waiting for stock levels to stabilise and some hot deals to get released before I order one (most likely direct from the US to avoid AU stupid pricing).

That's all you needed to say. The eeePad has most of the same failings as the other honeycomb tablets, so take your pick.

If you were after a tablet that was responsive, not chunky/heavy, had the best display, battery life, and the greatest potential to be useful to you, there's another tablet you'd be excited about.

iPad? I shouldn't of said I hate the iPad/Apple brand in my OP, as really my main concern with the iPad is just not wanting to develop for it yet. I enjoy the Android OS a lot more as well, and everything just seems so much more fluent and laid out right.

I have the Acer Iconia A500

It's good, better than sitting in front of the TV with a laptop but I am bitterly disappointed with the video playback.
