So I went to CA and got that readynas and some HDDs as well as ordering a 20m cat6 cable to go with it, I've gotten home to discover they've given me a Cat5 instead (though charging me for Cat5). I need to get this thing installed using some cable covers today and they close at 3. Is it worth taking it back or will I find no difference anyway? both my router and the readynas are gigabit.
yeah cat6 isn't going to make a difference when you're not going to be able to transfer data anywhere near the 1000 megabit connection limit
your readynas probably does 200~mbit per second, the cable is capable of 1000mbit
if you had a fully sick nas with more drives it might come close, but even then it would hardly be worth the drive back
I think I was at the counter beside you, I was buying a bunch of TV Tuner gear for my media centre.
I can confirm you did specifically ask for Cat6 as well.
Oh and I agree with the comments, you will not notice a difference.
I've hooked it all up and indeed noticed fuckall difference. I had to put it in a cable cover and stick it to the wall, I needed to know whether it was worth taking back before I did that otherwise I'd have to take it all out again.
