Well ladies, the time has come to spec up the next custom since the games are just getting too demanding of my current laptop spec. Since we love open sourcing the ordering process on QGL I thought this might be a little bit of fun to get your opinions on.

So here's what I'm currently considering, what say you?

I think the increase of build threads in the past few days should be convereted into one thread in which has a Low, med and High budget system specs, with a list of websites to go to for parts etc and updated whenever some new gear comes out?

OT: does it fire lazas?

You mean like this?

I like the computer of course, if you have cash to burn, but I think it becomes exponentially expensive and above a certain point you are not getting good return performance vs. dollar.

IMO the turning point is at about $1700-2300 or so, and has been ever since 286's cost $2k in 1990.

yes, except Ausgamer version, to minimize the build threads,

I think my next card will be ATI. I'm sick of the nvidia drivers always crashing for me. I don't know if it's just something funny I install or whether I'm just a noob but my laptop & main PC both keep getting the "the video driver has stopped responding and recovered" message pop up, even on a fresh install with nothing but windows installed.

Your a f***en monkey Trillion, unless you like throwing money down the toilet, you could spec a machine thats equally capable of playing all the latest games for probably half what you have there.

Only morons buy the VERY LATEST hardware and pay double what it will be in 3-6 months.

You can tell it's a fake build cause of the Intel X25-M G2 SSD listing.
No one going for a performance system would get such an ancient and slow drive.

Thing with the 590's is they have a small chance to blow up it seems. Some people have claimed that even without overclocking, their card died after a week or so. That and your paying about $250 extra for about the same performance as a 6990 which you can get from umart for $750.

Because I don't want to make another thread..

I'm getting sick of not being able to play games except those available on a mac. So I want to buy myself a new, budget gaming machine (and monitor if possible).

If anyone can do put together 2 lists of parts for me? Both with a budget of $1000, but one with a monitor included in the price, and one without the monitor (as in all the cashola spent on the case and its contents :D)

As far as hard drives go I'm sorted, but wouldn't mine a fast one for windows/programs so things run faster.

I will give mad props to anyone so generous :D

I won't argue with you on this point, but it's still a fact that anyone would pick the top end / premium gear if they could afford to.

If you remember when pro gaming took off in around 1999 / 2000 and F4t4l1ty had his own brand of motherboard/videocard/etc but noone among the povo middle class could afford one. But the gaming world is just like any other hobby in that the most devoted will always break themselves to build a beast.

Just ask anyone who's gone balls out with watercooling / overclocking their gear. Voiding their warranties, all in the pursuit of an ever progressing fps benchmark.

Also are you still coming to pickup the laptop or not? :/

Of course you would, but 4.5k just seems like a f***load of money for a gaming machine to mee, especialy with the price realy good hardware has come down to, and that doesnt even include monitors. You could get Dual Graphics Cards in the $500 range that would easily play any game out now, and a cpu for $500, spend the extra on 3 sweet 24" monitors/

Also are you still coming to pickup the laptop or not? :/

yeah this weekend for sure.

Personally, I think high-end cards and CPUs are a total waste of money. You'll get 80% of the performance for 40% of the price if you stay with mainstream parts.

i havent yet made a wabbit stew but i wouldnt mind building a PC via step by step.

i remember Kat (yes KAt, firm titty, self conscious fly off the handle) step by step arcade machine.

love to see that in a pc build on qgl...

with close up nipple free kat tits incorporated as well.

or you could be all businesslike and not give a s*** and find fault with my post for no reason except running out of porn on the interwebs....or of course....chaffing.

This happens from time to time on some nvidia cards, usually nvidia has a class action law suit against them because it's not the drivers, but instead it's actually the mobile videocards which are faulty.

Then you check out AMD, and you can get a whole new set of issues. Like the fact they're s***. They rely a lot on being the better price performance despite most of their owners are the ones at a lan or playing online who end up full PC crashing. Not to mention my amd powered laptop at one stage video died on every driver except for two. And i'm not sure if they've fixed this, but AMD and mobile video cards are super s***, they often require you to hack the actual unified driver to allow yo to install updates because they used to leave it to the manufacturer.

By all means go AMD, i'm sure they're not bust because their s*** usually works. But me, and lots of people I know, have issues with them.

Most of the cryptic 'issues' you are reffering to would probably just be borderline pebkac rather than anything fundamentally flawed with either the hardware or software driver design. I do prefer Nvidia but that's probably only because ive read a lot more about them, they do a very good reference book series and their sdk's are very well documented and easy enough to understand with code snippets and almost everything you could ever need to make your grey base polysmeshes nice and shiny. An ATI core is what the current gen 360 uses and they're no slouch, they just don't do DX10/11 for the eye candy like in Epic's samaritan demo at siggraph or gdc demoed

maybe the reason I have the seemingly irrationale preference for Nvidia has to do with their The way it's meant to be played' marketing having worked on my hopeless attempts at making decisions that are pragmatic and logical to other lesser geeks who pass me off as a nutter since they are clearly inferior in their comprehension of certain theories. Perhaps its an issue of over articulating something that I would think to be not so hard to grasp the concept of.

But then theories are difficult at best to communicate since people will believe what they think is right for them at the end of the day.

Ok clear to troll my rant that comes across as self righteous. Go.
