I have been a flight seem fan for years so I have a little experience with HOTAS setups. I recently got back into IL2 and needed a stick and throttle but I had to be a bit tight with the cash.

I got myself a Thrustermaster T.16000M
which only cost me $40 here in the USA. I would normally of gone for something alot more expensive but as I said I was on a tight budget. Even so for the price I thought I couldn't really go wrong since if it didn't work out I hadn't really invested much. Also this stick got good reviews arcoss the board inspite of the fact that some of the buttons feel a little flimsy.

One of the cool things about it is that it uses HALLEFFECT ACCURATE TECHNOLOGYâ„¢ ! (as they put it on the website). Basically this means the stick is very very accurate with what ever imputs it recieves plus there is no deadzones like a lot of other more expensive sticks with mechanical workings. I have had mine since about last October and it has served me well in IL2 and BFBC2 since that point.

These are the 3 other setups I was looking at when I bought this stick.

Logitech G940
which still have some deadzone issues relating to the firmware aparently although reports are they have largely fixed it.

Thrustmaster Warthog
Pretty much the pinicle of all HOTAS setups although still has some unfavourable reports about it floating around.

saitek x65 pro
I was quite close to getting this stick. However it uses something new to sticks which is that the stick doesn't actually move. It senses inputs from your hand including the twist motion for rudder control. I tend to be very heavy handed so I was concerned I may break it. Most reviews seem pretty favourable however there are enough that said they couldn't get used to it that it put me off.

Hope some of this helps. If there is anything more specific I can help you with just ask.

i thought flight stick, but the one that old people use as a stick that has a little seat,

however if you are in fact looking for that sort of stick, the poms make a great shooting stick that does the same job

I have a Saitek X52, it's quite good, there's rudder pedals available as an add-on if you so choose.

i think the use of the words "joy stick", or "flight controllers" would be a good description (and i know the term joy stick is rather old, and doesn't do the newer controllers any justice.

I have a logitech G940 as Taipan mentioned.
I hate it., its clunky and doesn't respond well, I get pissed off with it and revert back to keyboard controls.

Tim have you updated the firmware? If not you might want to look into it as it does make some improvement and some of the guys I know it has made the setup more usable (their words). It'd be such a shame to have to box up such a sweet looking setup and send it back or toss it in the corner.

To be perfectly honest I probably would of got one myself (even after being a little iffy on the deadzone issues). But I am not very familiar with using peddles for my rudder as I have always used a stick with the ability to twist for rudder inputs. I know how reliant I am on that after having bought myself a Saitek x45 some years ago which didn't have the ability to twist. It really f***ed me up pretty bad even though I ended up finding a work around for rudder control.

My original flight controls for game was the Thrustmaster F16 FLCS, WCS and RCS;

Milspec stuff and very robust.

After a few different Saitek Joysticks I too ended up with an X45. It was good with the rudder bar on the throttle quadrant although some times hard to access when a full military power.

Currently I'm flying with a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, not as fun as a proper setup but ok.
