It's been 24 months already and I'm now in the market for a phone. So tell me about yours!
I'm currently using a sony ericsson. That's basically all I can tell you. The model escapes me. It was old when I bought it. Jesus called it 'a phone'.
Whatever it is it lasted two years, and to be fair it's been really good, except for when 3 merged with vodaphone. Reception is now dog shit and the internet is unuseable.
Constant drop outs and "no service" far too often for my liking.
But love my iphone, wouldn't know what to do with myself if I didn't own one. Love having ability to play games on the go and using other money applications, email and so on.
Wouldn't dare go back to nokia or anything else, not worth the headache.
JB'd Iphone 4 here... Love it... Some great games and plenty of apps to keep ya interested and with cydia installed there's always stuff to customise and mess with.
Phone wise it's great as well and i'd never go back to a nokia... Mother inlaw has a HTC which is pretty good as well... Android is a pretty cool OS...
i got a cheap pos sony/ericsson pre-paid phone that does phone calls n texts n cost about $30. it sucks but i cbf'd paying more for something that sucks less.
htc desire with a cracked screen from getting rowdy one night.
Minus the cracked screen. I'd recommend you switch to Telstra for superior coverage. But you'll also pay more but hey at least you can use you phone when you want!?@
Had a 3GS iPhone was awesome then upgraded to a new iPHone 4 getting it replaced this saturday for a new one cause the home button is dodgy.. but an awesome phone... and love knowing when something wrong they will just replace it. I'm with 3 and internet can be really slow sometimes. but its not too bad
HTC desire. Can use the internet, custom ring tones, make calls, Bluetooth pair with any device not just ones the manufacturer thinks I should be able to pair to. It's pretty much an iPhone, only better.
what happened to them?
no reception
shithouse customer service
constant wrong bills and overcharging
im definately leaving them when my contract finishes next january. I got some pos sony from 2yrs ago that is fuckin infuriating to try and type msg on cause the buttons are so small :@ - it broke about 2months after i got it and they told me they forgot to sign me up for insurance and i would have to pay $200 to get it replaced or $100 to get it fixed. So i told the lady to go fuck herself and that i will be changing companies after my contract is up.
Android 2.1 atm, runs nice and smooth, not as feature packed as its non mini brother but I can do most things on it with one hand, its fairly small and compact but has a pop out keyboard that is just big enough to make it fast to type sms on.
iphone 4 on telstra. Dont bother with optus/vodaphone.
Unforunately the phone is very fragile and I cracked the screen within owning it for 2 weeks... not impressed. 3GS too quite a battering over 18 months and no damage.
Been good to me but just lately the SD card is playing up. This is a Kingston 32gig Class 6. Some stuff t I save to it won't work after restarting the phone. This includes apps, videos, photos. It's really shitting me. I don't want to go back to a 2gig SD memory that came with the phone either.
Galaxy TAB pretty much used as my main phone, doubles as a laptop/pda/phone etc. stoked with it.. if im giong out or whatever i take my shitty little work nokia which is good because its tiny
ps - never had a problem with optus but then again i dont live in the boondocks

This.
Also, Optus is good in VIC as far as I can work out. Been with them forever, never had a problem. Live in the sticks more or less too, 3G internet here no worries.
Nokia N8 browses internet good, has a beefy camera and can use custom ringtones and has plenty of storage and i can plug it in to any computer and drag off images and music and what not

Really? Thats crazy! I have dropped mine a few times now and its still in great shape :(

Sorry, but the build quality of the desire is still crap, same with the galaxy. I like the OS but the cheap feel put me off, I dont know why. The desire had really crappy speakers too
I was like you OP, didn't even know what my phone was, just that it sent sms's and was good enough. But having upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S, I can assure you that smartphones are friggin awesome and definitely worthwhile if you can afford one. :D

iPhone 3GS, same as Pinky, with Optus and have no problems. Once in a while my signal drops out at home, but I live in sticksville (Montrose / Mt.Evelyn)
3 is horrible I don't know why kids keep buying these expensive phones 'cheap' from 3 despite me telling them that they won't be able to make a phone call for the 2 years they'll be signing up for.
Optus / Telstra only in Melb as far as I'm conerned, whichever one I can afford at the end of each contract :P
Optus - I haven't had any real issues with reception except at the lab where my phone says I have reception and I can make calls, but for some reason no one can call me. 3G coverage isn't as good at uni (UQ St Lucia) compared to friends who have Telstra.
I'd be willing to bet that everyone having problems with Optus reception were using phones that didn't support 3G 900MHz. If you do, their coverage is awesome, damn close to that of NextG. Telstra still has better consistency with data speeds, but Optus isn't nearly as bad as what most of you are saying if you just use a compatible handset.
I can tell you for a fact that any iPhone before the iPhone 4 doesn't work on 900Mhz 3G, hence the crappy coverage.
Samsung Galaxy S. I want to drown it so it can't have kids and destroy the Earth with its lag and lack of updates. I am going to try and root it even though it doesn't have the 3 button restore feature. If it breaks, I think a part of me would be glad.
never had a personal mobile so never had a real choice. 3 jobs over last 15 years all with phones supplied.
would be fun to play with the various types there's a few I'd be keen on but for plain old making a call, looking and responding to work emails, and having my contacts synced then this will do. not to mention never having to pay for anything!
same as crakaveli - enjoying being on telstra after 4 years with optus. started out fine, then by the end i could barely have a conversation inside my house - could be the shitty sony ericsson phones i had though too. desire does everything i want, and well
getting some sort of blackberry for work, which i'm not hugely happy about (would rather they just paid the bill of my desire) but it looks like dual phones for a while.
HTC Desire HD, Vodafone. I find their 3G/HSDPA is not always great when away from metro areas and sometimes hit black spots, but otherwise pretty awesome.

Samsung s8300 piece of shit, talk about lag, this thing is still fukin dialing the first number I ever called

I'm on Virgin which I think uses Optus, on a Samsung Galaxy S. Have been out from Brisbane to Ipswich or Toowoomba a few times recently and every time had perfect reception wherever I whipped out my phone, so this could be why mine seems to be so much better than what other people describe. Don't really know the specs of my phone... it's not a real computer so not much care so long as it's good value for money. :P
I've been with optus/virgin for about 7 years with no major problems. I can't say I travel to the sticks much so I can't comment on the coverage. I've just upgraded to a galaxy s, it's a pretty good phone, no complaints atm.
got the galaxy as well, don't get it unless your planning on rooting it anyway, its an awesome phone if you like tinkering.
also android 2.2 is much faster compared to 2.1. upgrade if speed is a problem and dont wait for a "samsung approved release in kies". root the phone and do it yourself.

huh? down + home + power / up + home + power? then select restore to factory defaults? I've done it before i know its pretty simple.
also, i've bricked my phone several times, never not been able to restore it.
