Man drives to hospital holding his sawn-off arm

What did he steer the car with?

That headline sounds more like the kind of s*** news.com.au would come up with.

Just run it under the tap for a bit, she'll be right. The hospital probably has an severed limbs exception to the five second rule.

I'd give up my brand new car for my arm. Lord knows i can get back to where i am from scratch if i've got my working limbs and mind, but i can't go any further without an arm!

Given no pain, perfect clarity, etc, i would have used a lot of clingwrap+tied both halves of my arm off with belts tight, then driven. You know, tried to stop the blood flowing either way.

F*** it though, he's a legend for getting it sewn back on, given 30 minutes round trip for the ambo to get there and then get to the hospital he's well in the green for making the best of a bad situation.

Although gross.

Police say the only reason he did not bleed to death was because he was in shock.

Yeah, don't think that was the reason at all.
I'll go with he had a tourniquet in place.

Just saying...

Still, mad props to his fortitude.

I think it's safe to assume they're talking about circulatory shock (symptoms of which include very low blood pressure, so it does seem like it could have helped him not bleed to death), not just that he was surprised to have cut off his own arm. :P

Should have been booked for driving with undue care and attention.

Holding an arm while driving is worse than using a mobile.

He was then flown to Vienna, where doctors successfully reattached the arm.
That's freakin' amazing. I wonder how much use he will retain.

edit: well, I guess it's only really amazing if he retains any use. Otherwise sewing it on really isn't that impressive.
