Very windy and squally rain all night. Just saw the after effects of tornadoes up round Bundaberg. Word is we can expect some round Sunshine Coast down to Brisbane today.
We had power out for an hour last night. Looking pretty wild all round atm.
So how is everyone? All safe I hope. Anyone got any cool pics?
Dad's going around Australia in a camping bus and is at Burrum Heads (just North of Hervey Bay) caravan park atm catching up with friends. Tornado went through there, 40 foot shipping container blown off it's blocks onto the road, caravans turned over, anex's ripped off, trees down onto car's and a tent, killed the guys dog but ses cut him free and he's in hospital doing ok, lady had a heart attack and is in hospital. Lot's of damage. http://www.news.com.au/national/tornado-warning-issued-as-ex-cyclone-oswald-bears-down-on-southeast/story-fndo4ckr-1226562642052
Parks really needed rain, everywhere was so brown. Grass has gone crazy in my yard, gonna be a tough mow this week.
Yeah going to expect my yard to sprout quite rapidly which is annoying because I only just mowed it last week.
Was up at Morayfield last night for Australia Day, winds were blowing quite hard but nothing serious, was out walking when it hit and got soaked to the bone. Did lose power during the morning today, but we left early so hopefully they have power back up. Bruce Highway wasn't too bad coming back down to Brisbane, about 80km/h on average.
Spent hours in the rain yesterday putting in grass, so worth it with rain today. Had to water the last lot for a month while it turned brown in the sun.
We just came back in from tangalooma this morning.. It was hell rough. Sitting at dockside now organising if we can even drive home with all these road closures lol. Hectic !
Whats amazing is how BoM was unable to predict the Heatwave of the century nor this flooding event.
Weather Events are not related to Global Warming.
or Climate Change or whatever you want to call it,
Religion.
Id be impressed if they were able to predict these events rather than after they happen then claiming its a "sign" of their beliefs. Its the kind of stuff you get from people who believe in Nostradamus.
Surely, with all your conspiracy digging, you must have learned that weather and climate are two different concerns faceman.
It's the difference between being able to predict individual trajectories and collisions within a shaken snow globe, and knowing that shaking the snow globe will increase the movement of everything inside.
Erm, this event was well predicted , some changes to track but we have had a good idea where it was going for over a week or more with warnings and forecasts associated.
UKMET had its track pretty much spot on for 1 week plus.
It's only the fact it's now affecting "SEQLD" that the news has picked up onto it and decided to provide coverage.
P.s. wtf is with not bein able to post on qgl.ausgamers anymore, have to got ausgamers forums instead.
infi's not trolling, he actually is one of those people.
Few flooded houses around the corner from here, a huge tree branch directly through a picnic table and standing vertically, pretty glad that it fell now and not later when somebody was sitting there (as in, me, who often does when getting mud off shoes and whatnot).
Predicting weather events a month ahead or for entire seasons was what i was referring to.
Not seven days forecasts.
often independent weather forecasters are more accurate.
The summer we had the floods was another failure.
By the time they had changed their previous predictions it was already underway.
I sometimes wonder if they just stick their heads out the window.
why do they have to say police incident? why can't they say there's a jumper on the bridge? it's the same when they close railway lines because of a "police incident". everyone knows it means someone got smashed by a train.
Weather is that short-term burst of meteorological whatchamacallit that just happens to be occurring right now, perhaps as the result of — hey, I don’t know — a “ridge of low pressure†or something. Like, today it happens to be rainy and cold. That’s weather.
Climate, on the other hand, is the default setting for everything meteorological. It’s the stuff that is most typical of a particular place, the more-or-less average conditions you’d expect across many many years. For example, where I am, you usually wouldn’t expect it to be rainy and cold at this time of year. That’s the climate. But this year it is. That’s the weather.
Predicting weather events a month ahead or for entire seasons was what i was referring to.
They don't make any claims to accuracy beyond 7 days, no self respecting weather bureau would. In fact I thought BoM stopped giving long term predictions altogether stating that it wasn't an accurate science.
why do they have to say police incident? why can't they say there's a jumper on the bridge? it's the same when they close railway lines because of a "police incident". everyone knows it means someone got smashed by a train.
For some reason they think suicide is contagious so they can't report on it in an honest manner.
Someone tried crossing the floodwaters down here at Toombul and got stuck. The cops were there telling him to stay in his car. I came back out after shopping and the water was halfway up the windows, not sure if he was still stuck in there.
Wow... Just saw a wallaby get swept past (waters moving hell fast) and actually considered if I could get to it safely, saw the speed of the water and remembered there wasn't any bank anywhere near it.
About a minute later, some silly chick (with some guy) running along the footpath looking to get themselves drowned trying to save it and he wasn't even trying to stop her and offering advice by the looks of it.
I get the well meaning gesture of it all, shame some people don't realise how dangerous flood waters are and how much danger she would be placing rescue people in by not thinking just a little bit.
PS. i can't seem to reply through QGL forum today and yesterday, anyone else having this problem?
it was like that for me for the past 2 weeks. it didn't matter what PC i was on or what browser i was using. i've been able to post on qgl since yesterday.
It's pretty damn cool that our civilization is at the point where we have this coordinated evaluation and mapping around probable flood directions and whatnot.
LOL Tremble were you in the top carpark right in the corner taking that pic? I was there videoing in that corner about a minute before that dickhead tried to cross the creek.
When I got there the cop on the shop side wasnt there and I thought to myself probably don't need one since no ones would be dumb enough to try going through it. Well....
Anyone have a link to that flood level indicator that was "floating" around during the big floods?
You could punch in a metre level and see the flood levels?
Latest levels, moved all my shizzle upstairs as a precaution (dammit)
If the rain keeps up (which afaik it's not expected to) then I'd recommend evacuating. Last time the surge didn't come for a few days until after the river got full, i.e. all the water from the rest of the state up river, and my 2nd floor went under very quickly.

Holy shit hermi I'm just up the road (near the garden city bridge). I heard there was a swift water rescue down at the creek? Saw ambulance head down there this arvo.
Massive wind surge here.
Thankfully water has dropped back down to normal contained bank levels.
I can hear some critter (probably a possum) in extreme distress and crying out. NFI where it is though.
Man the information available this time is awesome. Nothing was worse than extremly important information being unavailable due to system loads. Even the information we can get is infinitely better than the last flood.

Perhaps it was that stupid couple that went in after the wallaby?
Damn, same places as last time marked as likely to flood. There was a girl who lived downstairs from me last time who owned her apartment and had 2 renters crammed in, the flood decimated her place and last I saw it took months to get it repaired. Now it's probably going to hit again.
During this time of flooding, i think we should all spare a thought for Tim Flannery. Tim Flannery is a Mammaoligist who is paid $180,000 a year as a climate expert(he has no qualifications in the field of climate) to advise the Gillard Government on climate change.
In 2007 he said that our river systems and dams will never be full again. This is the second year now that dams have had to be emptied to make room for more rain and our river systems have been flooding.
My house shares a walkway with council and the fence cracked and blew over last night. Turns out that the local/state/federal government are except from the Dividing Fences Act. Does anyone know if council will repair the fence because it is part of a walkway? They are currently not answering their phone.
Amazing how massively reliant on power we are. My whole house is electric so no power = can't do a thing.
One of the outcomes from the Black Saturday royal commission was mandatory insulation on all electricity lines. Since the start of December we've had scheduled full day power outages twice (occasionally three) times a week. This week is Wed, Fri and Mon. Our entire life grinds to a halt without power especially as I'm self employed and work from home - can't put a figure on lost productivity :(
i lost a section of awning from my back patio :f & everything that wasn't nailed down outside has gone somewhere else to live. i think i had 2 shirts hanging on the line in my garage... nothing there now :p

i reckon they would, wait till tomorrow, still public holiday and they are busy with lots of other things atm. but at least check with them before using insurance.
Anyone know if the roads thru that area are flooded, the missus needs to get to work tomorrow and they are calling to see if she can make it in. Travels on Highway North Bound off at Slacks Creek on Logan Rd heading past Underwood ?

Day 2, still no power. Zombie apocalypse has struck.
Amazing how massively reliant on power we are. My whole house is electric so no power = can't do a thing.
After the last flood / massive blackout, I bought a generator. I've been enjoying microwave food and a fridge that still works. I also just finished watching a bluray. Only thing it won't power is the hot water heater, oven or AC because they're hard wired and pull some massive amps.
Oh and I love how when I go to energxes website it now says no regions are affected by power cuts and to call them if my area isn't listed. So I call them and get a recorded message saying no ones doing shit, until the weather is calm. Might as well just have a recorded message saying no power for you, suck it up princess.
Flannery said what he said and your link proves it nerfy.
Politicians built useless desal plants because of the nonsense trottered out by that Fool and the CSIRO which went from carrying out Science to advertising Carbon Taxes. 5/6 Desal Plants are idle right now. almost 10 billion dollars of infrastructure OUR TAXES.
Flannery said what he said and your link proves it nerfy.
Yes, my link proves what he said, which wasn't "our river systems and dams will never be full again". It was that hot soil would mean that less water in general goes into dams and rivers.
Council has been installing backflow valves in certain places after the 2011 floods. But they haven't finished yet:
2012-13
Castlemaine Street, Milton; five backflow devices.
Creek Street, Brisbane; five backflow devices.
Leybourne Street, Chelmer; three backflow devices.
Just wonder if the extra water that would have gone up these storm water drains in 2011 will have an effect on people further downstream now that it has nowhere else to go.
My power actually came back on this morning, 12 hours earlier than expected. I went for a drive last night, and it looked like it was pretty much just my street that was knocked out, and the Energex website said it was only 150 connections affected which makes sense.
Now though, I have power back, and at last check on the website this morning there was like 3000 people in my suburb without power, some not due to be restored till Wednesday. So I guess overall I lucked out a bit on that one.
can't get over the car in the foam video. what the fuck was the retard thinking continuing to drive having entered it and been completely covered? how was he even going straight and not veering off into the bus. I also can't believe how cool the cops are about it, as if in sheer disbelief.
pretty fucking hilarious though
Area behind mine has slowly been rising over the last couple hours, and the middle of the street behind the property behind mine is now flooded over. I have a large empty lot behind mine which runs drainage that is now a giant lake. My property is about 1.5-2m above that, so hopefully all good.
The flood maps say St Lucia won't get flooded, but the Suburb PDFs say it will ... not happy with the contradictions.
Spent the whole day moving my stuff out of that suburb. Did not realise how hard it is booking some sort of moving vehicle on such a day. Rang a dozen removalists and truck hire places.
Made a booking with Abel for a truck, got a call half an hour later from the depot saying "Not sure why the call centre person went through with your booking as we don't actually have a truck. You should call her back to clarify". I called her back and got a rude "What are you calling me for! At the time the computer said there was a truck and I made a booking. Their computers must not be up to date." ... so I reply with .. "So what can be done?" ... reply: "As I said, I made a booking at the time.". ... fuck Abel.
Jeez who would live in Queensland... Didn't you guys have devastating floods only a couple years ago?
I think this was posted during the last floods:
Doesn't matter where you live, you're gonna get blown away, set on fire, or drowned. I don't think anywhere in this country is "safe" to live (long term).
Doesn't matter where you live, you're gonna get blown away, set on fire, or drowned. I don't think anywhere in this country is "safe" to live (long term).
False... I've lived in Sydney for 28 years, and never had devastating floods, cyclones, or anything remotely disastrous. Fires come close at times, but they're always contained.
Vash i think you're off with the pixies because Sydney has had a number of natural events like storms that have caused some serious damage over the years. I recall that big one a number of years ago that caused a nation wide shortage of roof tiles for a start. Sydney seems to get whacked by significant storms more frequently than Brisbane does.
I very rarely experience storms here. There's regularly a storm thread here for brisbane. When we do get a big one though, it can be nasty. most significant was the 1999 hail storm that broke my car's tail lights. thats nothing compared to the damage flooding does, though.
I remember when i was posted to sydney back around 89/90 ish we had a patch of something like 28 weekends straight where it rained. I love the rain dont get me wrong but that many wet weekends was enough to really test my sanity.
I love the rain dont get me wrong but that many wet weekends was enough to really test my sanity.
What makes it worse is that it's been the Aussie day long weekend, monday was a holiday but I've had no power for maybe a day & a half or something, it's pissed down rain the entire weekend so couldn't go anywhere, no power so couldn't do much of anything indoors, and now that it's time to go back to work what happens? Fucking rain has stopped, power is back on and the wind has died down.
Not that I want it to keep raining but couldn't it have maybe stopped while I was off work? It's like the universe is laughin at me :(
I just flew back to Perth, getting away from this shit. Got a message at the other end to say we had a gum tree fall on a container and another tree on a car.
There was trees fallen at regular intervals on side of highways, had one across the road on an onramp but was able to get around it

you should be thankful that your home isn't flooded like the poor buggers up north.
well, spare a thought from those down south that are now coping it
also, when the fuck did I get old, after yasi, I was fine, but a two 18 hour days taking trees off houses, and a little sandbagging, I feel fucked! things hurt,
She's pretty fuckin wet down here, plenty of flooding going on down the gong way and the airport is having some serious issues being built right next to Botany. Disregard Vash's complete lack of what the fucks going on, he's busy pestering people for dinner.
Whats the deal with the midday rise? should i risk going to work out at manly?School is on the waterfront. They say only to go in if its safe and no students attending.
I told them id give it a miss last night, but i feel kinda guilty now looking at the blue sky !?!?!
As reported by the Bureau of Meteorology, Brisbane is expected to have a flood peak of 2.6m which may impact Umart and the daily operations for Tuesday (29/1) & Wednesday (30/1).
Ah, I just checked and copuis is one of the climate conspiracy folk, he's just doing their usual "attack the messenger" shit.
no, your memory is off, there was rain for a few day over the flood. just cause it wasn't raining on you, at the moments that you were out side, doesn't mean it was all blue sky,
also, hate to point this out, but brisbane just so happen to be in a cyclone zone, sooo, if we get a cyclone (or an EX cyclone) how is this climate change?
also, in some places we are reaching, or getting close to records set in 1942, which means. it is unlikely, but shouldn't be unexpected
also nerf, other than been alarmist, and ill informed, what have you done. i'm guessing not alot, get out, and do something
no, your memory is off, there was rain for a few day over the flood. just cause it wasn't raining on you, at the moments that you were out side, doesn't mean it was all blue sky,
The rain stopped before brisbane flooded, wednesday was eerily hot and sunny while the houses went underwater. Me and some friends were ferrying all the stuff out of my house on an inflatable mattress, and glad that the rain had stopped. The flood came from the surge upriver, not local rain.
also, hate to point this out, but brisbane just so happen to be in a cyclone zone, sooo, if we get a cyclone (or an EX cyclone) how is this climate change?
Nobody said that it was, infi and faceman (and now you) just invented that straw man.
Thanks for verifying my guess for the reason behind your little spaz attack.
sorry, what nerf, you yell climate change because we get a weather pattern that has happened before
I point out that we live in a cyclone zone, and you claim it is a straw pole,
the reason for my spaz attack, you have no clue, and preach on any number of things like an expert when in fact you spew other peoples opitions. while other people are out doing something helpful
sorry, pal, you waived your right to comment on anything ever again when you vehemently defended your belief that cooking something increases its nutritional content.
sorry, pal, you waived your right to comment on anything ever again when you vehemently defended your belief that cooking something increases its nutritional content.
Off the mark for explaining to you four times that I never said what you completely made up?
Go... put words in people's mouth somewhere else. Faceman was looking for people to circle jerk over an Andrew Bolt lie regarding Tim Flannery, maybe you should pm him and then you two can wank each other without any annoying "reality" to your hearts' content.
Nerf just said it was blue skies over him, not blue skies everywhere. The flood waters rose while the sun was shining because of a time it took for the surge to travel down the river. Not too hard to grasp I would have thought, just recollection of 2011 events & nothing at all to do with a climate change argument.
Also, poor Umart... perhaps this time they'll move their main office to higher ground. :(
Nerf you really need to take a look at how you go about things. Even if you are right about some ofthe crap you go on about your points are completely lost due to the fact that they are well and truely over shadowed by you being a complete and utter obnoxious cockhead. The entire theme of your posts come off like a rant about how much smarter you are than everyone else. I wont say that you intend for this to be the case but thats how it always reads.
I am all for some spirited debate and hearing other peoples angel on an issue but your posts come off more as a means of self promotion than anything actually worth while. These days if i see your name on a post i just scroll by and ignore it and not because it lacks information but because the entire tone is one of you being a total dick.
strait back into summer here (south side gold coast)... few lingering clouds but other than that it's hot as fwuck and dead still
Yeah same north of brisbane, it's hot as fuck without any wind. Hopefully the plants can make use of the wet ground and direct sunlight to grow some.

Sorry dude ...but fuck!
You want me to respond to repeating liars with politeness and acting as though they have a point?
I like how you don't criticize their blatant lies and "with no due respect" language, nor even hold yourself to the same standards, starting your post with "the crap you go on about" because I called out a blatant liar.
sorry, pal, you waived your right to comment on anything ever again when you vehemently defended your belief that cooking something increases its nutritional content.
We had a slight brown out last night during the heavy rain, but my PC never rebooted. Also, my job is driving all around Sydney, and i saw no floods or traffic jams. The long weekend traffic from the F3 doesn't count. Talking out of your arse Enska
you have a shot any people all the time in regards to climate, calling them morans, and idiots at denying all the proof etc
now I've been out and about pulling trees off houses and sanding baging people joints, and have missed your rants, but saw some of your comments that implied this might be due to changes in the weather
I pointed out that this isn't weather that we haven't had before,
you called me a lair
I gave you proof,
you said you never claimed weather was changed ny climate,
Can we get back onto topic rather then whining at each other?
How is St. Lucia looking? I'm on Ada Street and apparently it won't be flooded, never did in 2011 either so should be good, but apparently a road close by is predicted to be going under.
There is no way to link individual weather events to climate change, at most we'd only expect to see an increased frequency of extreme weather. I never said a thing about linking this event to climate change, it was you, in fact, who started criticizing a straw man.
Flannery told that rains bullshit in numerous places.
Heres another: New Scientist 2007
Over the past 50 years southern Australia has lost about 20 per cent of its rainfall, and one cause is almost certainly global warming. Similar losses have been experienced in eastern Australia, and although the science is less certain it is probable that global warming is behind these losses too.
But by far the most dangerous trend is the decline in the flow of Australian rivers: it has fallen by around 70 per cent in recent decades, so dams no longer fill even when it does rain.
Growing evidence suggests that hotter soils, caused directly by global warming, have increased evaporation and transpiration and that the change is permanent. I believe the first thing Australians need to do is to stop worrying about "the drought" - which is transient - and start talking about the new climate.
for instance here what Flannery says about Co2s role:
[Flannery says in The Weather Makers], “Earth’s thermostat is a complex and delicate mechanism, at the heart of which lies carbon dioxide.†If Earth does indeed have a thermostat, the heart of it has to be water – vast quantities of it. It takes more energy to raise the temperature of one gram of water by 1 degree than of any other common substance. The massive oceans, glaciers and lakes, comprising over 70 percent of the Earth’s surface, stabilise Earth’s temperature. Water vapour, the dominant greenhouse gas, forms reflective clouds, precipitates as rain and transfers enormous quantities of heat vertically and horizontally around the planet. Compared to water in all its forms, carbon dioxide is a small peripheral player.
WUT ???
Heres what Flannery says about Co2 causing Extreme Weather Events"
We find no solid evidence for GHG emissions causing extreme weather events.
We dont need Andrew Bolt to make fun of Flannery.
What i'll never understansd about the Global Warming Show is how people defend the fools that have destroyed its credibility.
People like Flannery have done far more damage to AGW than any sceptic has.
You problem nerfy is you think Scientists are Infallible.
None of that was "the dams would never be full again." He said that more water would evaporate than previously, so less from regular rainfalls would be going into the dams.
You problem nerfy is you think Scientists are Infallible.
My problem is that you guys propagandise blatant lies, as you did here.
so, (taking eorls advice) how'd every one hold up?
I was in a rush to get the SES shed open, and left...well everything on, and as such the power surges and brownouts that i guess happened here have claimed my beloved stereo, and the fish filter
luckly the extra dough spent on the PSU (in my mind) meant the computer got away harm free, and was still running when I got home (no APU)
but what is was talking about was a kg of cooked rice, vs a kg of uncooked, they wieght the same, but they have vastly different volumes, energy content, only the wieght is the same
oh, so you did mention volume. as well as all the other nonsense you think isn't water absorption.
plz save thread for talking about weather, not climate
Just saw on the news that the river is at peak; they had a shot of the Regatta ferry terminal which is pretty submerged, but it looks like the Regatta itself can breathe a sigh of relief for now anyway.
Anyone know what the roads are like between Brisbane and the GC (specifically Coolangatta airport)? I'm flying out of there tomorrow morning and just wondering if I need to worry about the trip.
Mum's house in calamvale has been out of power for 2 days and still going. Dirty laundry, rotten food, stinking hot humidity and no entertainment. Good times.
2.35pm: DRINKING water could run out in parts of the greater Brisbane area overnight if residents do not reduce their use, Premier Campbell Newman has warned.
Residents in Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan have been asked to only use tap water for drinking, showering and cooking for the next few days to avoid emptying treated water supplies.
The floods have choked the Mt Crosby treatment plants forcing it to shut down.
Clean water will need to be dumped out of Wivenhoe to flush out the plants.
The water flowing into the plants is four times muddier than the 2011 floods.
maybe if they used the dam as a buffer, and not panic release while trying to maintain a level less than 100% (the dam can hold twice as much remember) the water wouldn't be as muddy, and there might not have been as much water in the city *end armchair critic rant
Na, the river where the treatment plants gets the water from is muddy from all the creeks and inlets dumping into it. The water from the dam is pretty good, they are hoping the dam water helps mix in and dilute it so they can start treatment again. Like pouring a big cup from the bathroom into the toilet to flush that monster, toilet blocking log down so you don't get splash back.
Anyone know what the roads are like between Brisbane and the GC (specifically Coolangatta airport)? I'm flying out of there tomorrow morning and just wondering if I need to worry about the trip.
it was fine i drove to merrimac today
I see the Greens are calling for a "permanent disaster fund," Must be in anticipation of a Milne-HansonYoung-Rhiannon government
i support this, and all other initiatives that involve us paying more tax. with the greens in charge we will be paying 75% tax minimum and we won't have to make any more decisions for ourselves, THANKFULLY.
A friend just sent me some pics from Clarks Road, looks like she got a bit closer than you Whoop
are you saying i'm a wuss or something? Look where I am in the video, I'm right next to the water. Might not be that obvious since I was using an 18mm lens.
Those kids casting the net were just off to my left. Your girlfriend probably got a shot of me there too unless she was one of the ones who just stood on the cement path
Also my aim was just to capture the flood, not take pictures of children.
my android device + chrome = auto resized, didn't need to pinch anything.
HOWZAT! :P
and since cheez wants more pictures of kiddies, looks like they did get in one of the shots
so anyone know what suburbs are going to run out of water tomorrow?
Let's say someone has a rain water tank with questionable water in it (only used on gardens / car washing / etc). Would it be possible to make it drinkable? I think there might be some kind of anti mosquito chemicals in it or something, maybe some cat piss, possum shit and most likely a bunch of drowned ants. Am I better off not even trying?
Queensland Urban Utilities have named Tarragindi, Camp Hill, Carina North, Mount Gravatt, Tingalpa, Rocklea and Oxley as most at risk of losing supply however a spokesman said that was "very unlikely".
well fuck, i'm pretty much on the border of camp hill :/
whoop, most people in SA just drink it right from the tank, but it is from my understanding upto your roof type.
if the water looks clean, just boil the fucker for 8 mins, that will kill most/all the nasty's that will make you sick, and then chalk the rest as free protein
Roof is metal / that clear fibreglass stuff. Water looks crystal clear, more or less. I guess if worst comes to worst, I've got some charcoal here and some old socks. Filter that shit, boil that shit, evaporative distillation that shit, and then die of thirst while I'm waiting :p
Whoop I use to drink straight from the water tank at my mothers place behind Dreamworld and that was only going through one filter. I think you will be perfectly fine.
This is out back of my parents place in Boonah, normally there's no water there at all!
I've seen that area in the picture. My wife's cousin owns a property out near Mt. Alford on Carneys Creek Road with Treviot Brook running through their property. We have stayed there on a number of occasions.
Whoop I use to drink straight from the water tank at my mothers place behind Dreamworld and that was only going through one filter. I think you will be perfectly fine.
When I was younger in 1973 we lived in Roma and we drank from tanks with only wire mesh over the inlet as a filter. We even used to drink straight from the creek which most of the time was muddy water. He'll live.
Yeah but I think there's chemicals in this tank to kill mosquito eggs. So it'd be like sucking on a paddlepop stick made of mortein. It LOOKS clear, but smells like weed killer.
Just got power and phones back after nearly 3 days out.
Only just managed to get the genny working this afternoon as well. Since we are on tank water it meant 3 days without running water so I took the opportunity to have a cold shower when the genny was on only to come down stairs afterwards and see the power indicator light on.
Phones came on about an hour later, both land line and mobile. That was a pretty big mess up IMO, they should have organised a generator for the exchange asap so people could at least make phone calls to emergency services but I have a feeling they didn't even know they were down until late yesterday.
Gold Coast hinterland, we actually have 2 generators but neither worked. One has a bad diode but it turns out the other just needed to have the carburetor cleared out. Probably could have taken it down yesterday to discover this but we had been told at the time we would get power on that afternoon so we thought we would hold out, it turns out no one told Energex that. They didn't turn up until this afternoon and had power back on after a few hours.
Hit up a disposal or camping store and get some purification tabs.
Hopefully there's a camping store inside the boundary of this little island. Getting to work this morning was a bitch, there's like one way in and one way out now. The water was lapping at my street when I got home.
Guess I was facebook trolled with that pic. Apparently there was like 6 of them up the coast though. Hervey Bay, Mooloolaba, Bargara etc. The media is calling them tornadoes but I think they're water spouts that made it to land?
I'm quite surprised there hasn't been video footage or pics floating about though?
just back from picking up my $720 for losing power from the storm.
I have no idea how they justify that power loss stuff. In 2011 it was $1000 for anybody who lost power for more than a few days, which for the sharehouse where I was crashing was something like $5000 in total. At the time I presumed that it was just some sneaky attempt at stimulus.
Nah each individual person claimed the $1000, they were pretty happy. I mean I was happy for them, they'd helped me evacuate my house, and they went a few days isolated without power themselves. It just seemed pretty amusingly overboard, so I figured that it was plausibly a stimulus plan from the little I know of economics and my presumed effects of a flood on spending.
